Sidney Crosby is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently plays with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL). 

He was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005 and has won four consecutive Stanley Cups with them, making him one of only six players to have three or more championship titles with one team.

Crosby also holds numerous NHL records, including most points (1,087), most assists (927), and most goals (801). In 2014-15 he led the league in scoring for a record seventh time and was awarded his third Hart Memorial Trophy as MVP of the NHL season. 

Crosby is considered to be one of the greatest players ever and has been honored with many accolades including being named Sportsman of The Year twice by The Globe And Mail newspaper. 

Winning an Olympic gold medal as part of Canada's national men's ice hockey team at Sochi 2014, becoming captain of Team Canada for two periods in 2018.

Alexander Ovechkin is a professional ice hockey player who played for the Washington Capitals of the NHL. He was drafted first overall in 2004 and has since become one of the game's most dominant players. 

Alexander Ovechkin has been a key part of two Stanley Cup-winning teams (2010 with Washington, 2012 with Dynamo Moscow), as well as several other playoff appearances and championships.

Known for his powerful shot and goal-scoring ability, Alexander Ovechkin is also known for his leadership qualities on and off the ice, having served as captain of both the Capitals and Russia national teams at various points in his career. 

Alexander Ovechkin will be 33 years old at the end of this season; still young enough to play at an elite level if he chooses to continue playing professionally.

Auston first started playing hockey while he was just two years old, with his brother Andrew helping him out in their backyard rink near their home in Scottsdale. 

By the time he was four, he had started playing organized hockey with a travel team called The Jr Canadians Hockey Club - which would later become his junior club when he moved to Toronto to play with the Maple Leaf's organization's minor league affiliate, the Mississauga Steelheads (now known as the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds).

In March 2015, Auston recorded an incredible accomplishment by becoming one of only five players ever to score 50 goals and add 50 assists within a calendar year in junior hockey (the other four beings. 

Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Patrick Kane, and Nathan MacKinnon), earning him honours such as Canadian Hockey League Player of Year and OHL First-Team All-Star selection along the way during that impressive season. 

Making him eligible for entry into Canada's National Junior Team Program heading into the 2016 World Junior Championships where he led all rookies with six points (two goals + four assists) en route to winning the bronze medal after losing the semifinal game against Russia 2–1.

Auston became not only the best rookie but also the leading scorer among all NHLers scoring 14 points through 13 games during the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs and reaching 19 points overall before finally winning.

Nathan MacKinnon was drafted 1st overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2013. He has since been a staple on the team's roster, scoring over 100 points in each of his first 3 seasons and helping lead them to back-to-back Stanley Cup victories. 

Nathan is an explosive player with great puck control who can score from anywhere on the ice. His play has led him to be nominated for several awards, including MVP and Hart Memorial Trophy in 2016-2017 season respectively.

In 2018 he became just the second player ever (after Wayne Gretzky) to win both the Art Ross and Hart trophies in consecutive years, cementing his status as one of hockey's best players ever.

Stamkos is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and there are many rumors linking him to a move away from Tampa Bay.

However, he has yet to confirm any plans and will most likely decide what route he takes later this year. 

Stamkos is one of the most exciting players in NHL history and his ability on the ice guarantees that he will continue achieving great things for years to come. 

Stamkos was the first overall draft pick in 2008 by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Stamkos has had a successful career with the Lightning, leading them to two Stanley Cup appearances and one Eastern Conference championship.

In 2017 he won his first Stanley Cup with Edmonton over the Boston Bruins. 

Outside of hockey, Draisaitl enjoys spending time with his family and friends, including participating in charity events and supporting various causes close to his heart such as helping disadvantaged youth find opportunities they may not have otherwise had access to.

Leon Draisaitl is a young, talented center/left wing who was drafted 3rd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014 NHL Draft. 

He has had an impressive playing career to date, representing Germany at various junior levels before making his debut with them at the senior level in 2013. 

In 2014 he signed with the Oilers and made his professional debut that season, scoring 10 goals and adding 18 assists for 28 points in 48 games played.

In 2015-16 Leon continued to perform well for Edmonton, posting 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 66 games played as they reached the playoffs for only the second time in franchise history; however, they were unable to advance past the first round this time around. 

Leon score 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games as he led all forwards on Edmonton's roster en route to their third consecutive playoff appearance; however, once again they were unable to make it past the first round this time around - losing 2-1 against Calgary Flames in six hard-fought games.

Leon so far - recording 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) through 35 games played which puts him 5th among all NHL players currently playing - leading many pundits and experts to declare him one of 'the best centers / left wings' currently active.

11. Andrei Vasilevskiy

He helped lead Russia to silver at the World Juniors this year, as well as helping Team Europe win a bronze medal at the same tournament. 

Vasilevskiy is considered one of the brightest young goaltenders in hockey and will be looking to continue his development with the Lightning moving forward Andrei Vasilevskiy was born in Minsk, Belarus on March 5th, 1995.

He captained Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) from 2016-2018 and helped lead them to two championships during that time period. 

Vasilevskiy made his NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 9th, 2018 against the Carolina Hurricanes and recorded a win in his first game as a starter. 

Andrei is currently playing for Russian club Ufa in the KHL playoffs and has yet to lose any games this postseason thus far.

Andrei Vasilevskiy is an extremely talented goaltender who will hopefully continue to develop and reach even greater heights within the NHL.

12. Cale Makar

Makar was drafted in the first round, 16th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. 

Makar previously played for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL and recorded 191 goals and 548 points over four seasons with them.

In his rookie season with the Avalanche, he led all rookies in scoring with 31 points (10G-21A) and finished second on the team in plus/minus (+16). 

The following year he improved upon his point total to 37 (11G-26A) but saw his plus/minus dip slightly to +13 due to injury problems late in the season which limited him to 53 games played.

In 2019-20, Makar continued where he left off from last year recording 36 points (14G-24A) while being named an alternate captain by head coach Jared Bednar at age 20 years old - a record for the youngest player ever elected as captain of an NHL franchise. 

As one of only two players under 25 years old who have scored more than 100 goals during their professional careers, Makar is widely considered one of hockey's brightest young stars and is expected to continue producing at a high level well into his 30s Makar was drafted 4th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Draft.

He has spent most of his career with the Avalanche, appearing in over 100 games and scoring 22 goals and 53 assists. Makar is a right-shooting defenceman who is known as a physical player on the ice. 

He announced his retirement from hockey at the age of 20 after suffering a torn ACL during a playoff game against Minnesota Wild. 

Makar remains active off the ice, working to promote awareness of mental health issues among athletes through his charity Cale’s Challenge Foundation.

In his rookie season with the Lighting, Point scored 26 goals and 66 points in 82 games played. He has continued to be one of the team's top scorers during his sophomore year, tallying 43 goals and 97 points through 78 games so far this season. 

With such consistent play at both center and wing throughout his career thus far, it is no wonder that Point has been named to Canada's World Junior Championship roster for 2018.

14. Mikko Rantanen

As well as continuing to perform at an elite level both offensively and defensively while being a model citizen off it; Mikko Rantanen is sure to be a long-term fixture in Avalanche folklore Mikko Rantanen is a skilled right-winger who has spent the majority of his professional career in Colorado.

He was drafted 10th overall by the Avalanche in 2015 and has since put up impressive numbers, including 82 points (34 goals, 48 assists) in 73 games this season. 

Mikko Rantanen also played for Finland at both the World Junior Championships and the Olympics, where he helped lead his country to bronze medals.

In terms of future prospects, Mikko Rantanen is already considered an elite player and could potentially become one of the best wingers in the NHL soon.

Wayne Gretzky is one of the greatest players in NHL history. He was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 1978 and went on to win seven Stanley Cups with them. 

He later played for the Indianapolis Racers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes before retiring in 1999. 

After retirement, Gretzky became a coach with the Phoenix Coyotes and led them to two Pacific Division titles before being fired after just three seasons due to poor performance.

In 2005, he was hired as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs but resigned after just nine games following a series of public criticism from team president Brian Burke. 

Gretzky has since retired from coaching but still plays occasional hockey games; most recently for Team Canada at an international tournament in January 2017.

Bobby Orr is one of the most decorated hockey players in history, winning six Stanley Cup championships and being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.

His prowess on defense led to him becoming known as "The Great One", and he was a key player for Boston Bruins throughout his career. He retired from playing in 1981 but later became head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers before retiring for good in 1997.

In 2003, he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) but continued to make public appearances until his death aged 74 in 2010.

Mario Lemieux is one of the most successful hockey players of all time. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997 and won four Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Lemieux began playing organized hockey at a young age. 

He played for several minor league teams before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1984-85 season. In his rookie year, Lemieux led the NHL in scoring with 104 points (40 goals and 62 assists).

The following year he repeated as leading scorer and helped lead Pittsburg to their first-ever Stanley Cup victory over Calgary Flames. 

At 36 years old, Lemieux became only the fifth player to score 50 or more goals in each of his first 10 seasons in an NHL career During his 20-year career.

Mario scored 692 total goals including 581 while playing for Pittsburgh Penguins alone; this makes him one of only six players to score 700 regular season goals during their professional careers In the 1996-97 season he captured his fourth.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements on and off the ice, Maurice Richard was awarded honorary Canadian citizenship in 2013. Maurice Richard was one of the most popular and iconic players in Canadien's history. 

He scored more than 500 goals during his career and is still considered one of the all-time greats. Maurice Richard also had a colorful off-the-ice life, often engaging in shenanigans with teammates and opponents alike.

Among other things, he once urinated on an opponent's bench while playing against the Philadelphia Flyers. 

In 1960, after scoring 507 goals over 14 seasons with Montreal, Richard opted to join the new Quebec Nordiques instead of signing an extension with the Canadiens. 

The move caused a rift between Richard and teammate Jean Beliveau which never healed completely. Maurice Richard died from cancer at age 78 in 2000.

Guy Lafleur is considered one of the greatest hockey players ever. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988 and retired from playing in 1996.

Guy Lafleur played for many teams throughout his career, including Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. 

His most famous moment as a player came when he scored the goal that won the Stanley Cup for Montreal Canadiens in 1986.

After retiring from playing, Guy Lafleur went on to have a successful career as a coach with several different teams including Quebec Remparts and CSKA Moscow Major League Hockey Club (KHL). 

In 2017, it was announced that Guy Lafleur had prostate cancer and would not be able to attend his induction ceremony into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame later that year due to health concerns.

Guy Lafleur passed away at age 70 after battling cancer for several years Guy Lafleur was a prolific scorer in the NHL, amassing over 1,500 points in his career. He was drafted first overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1971 and played for them until 1985.

Pavel Bure was inducted into both the Hockey Hall of Fame (2012) and Russian Hockey Hall of Fame (2008). In addition, he has also been awarded numerous other accolades including being named Canada's Greatest Male Athlete of All Time by Sports Illustrated magazine (2005).

Dale Hawerchuk was a Hall of Fame hockey player who won the Stanley Cup twice with the Buffalo Sabres. After his playing career ended, he became a broadcaster for the NHL on TSN and CBC.

He died in 2020 at age 57 after succumbing to cancer. Dale Hawerchuk was drafted first overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1981 NHL Draft. Dale played for Winnipeg, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers over his 10-year career.

He led the NHL in scoring twice (1985–86 and 1992–93) and won two Stanley Cups with the Jets (1991 and 1996). Dale retired after playing one season with Phoenix Coyotes in 1997-98 before returning to play one final season with Ottawa Senators in 1998-99.

In total, he scored 706 goals and added 616 assists for 1,337 points during his hockey career - an impressive tally that makes him one of the all-time greats.

Anderson was born in Edson, Alberta on October 26th, 1961. Anderson played junior hockey with the Edmonton Oil Kings before making his professional debut with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds of Switzerland's National League A in 1980–81.

After a successful year in Switzerland, Anderson joined the Edmonton Oilers as their 69th overall pick at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and made his North American debut with the club later that season. 

Anderson quickly became one of the key players for Edmonton over the next decade and helped them win two Stanley Cups (1984 & 1985) as well as compete for numerous other trophies including three Canada Cup championships (1984, 1987 & 1989).

In 1997, after 11 seasons playing professionally in North America and Europe, Anderson retired from hockey having scored 608 goals – second all-time behind only.

Gordie Howe – along with 1,214 points over 1284 games played during an illustrious career which saw him inducted into both Hockey Canada's Hall of Fame (2003) and Alberta Sports Hall of Fame (2005).

He was part of the "Pigboat" line with Bernie Parent and Jean Beliveau. He also served as captain of the Canadiens for three seasons.

43. Henri Richard

Henri Richard passed away in 2010 at the age of 75. Henri Richard was a dominant centre in his NHL career, amassing over 1,000 points.

Bernie Nicholls is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is currently playing for HC Davos in the National League A (NLA). 

Nicholls has played in the NHL, ECHL, IHL, and AHL, and has competed in the Winter Olympics and World Championships.

Nicholls was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fourth round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. After playing four seasons in the minors, Nicholls made his NHL debut with the Flyers in 1985. 

He spent the next eight seasons with the Flyers, recording 298 points (163 goals and 139 assists) in 598 games.

Nicholls was traded to the Calgary Flames in 1991, and then to the Edmonton Oilers in 1992. He finished his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1996. 

Nicholls played three seasons in the ECHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms and Orlando Solar Bears, recording 139 points (68 goals and 79 assists) in 191 games.

He then spent two seasons with the IHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, recording 131 points (67 goals and 68 assists) in 178 games. Nicholls returned to the AHL with the Springfield Falcons in 2001, and spent three seasons with the team before retiring in 2005. 

Nicholls competed in the Winter Olympics for Canada in 1998 and 2002, and in the World Championships for Canada in 1995, 1997, and 2000.

Nicholls was named the CHL Player of the Year in 1990 and the AHL Player of the Year in 2002. Nicholls is married to his wife, Sheryl, and they have two children, daughter Kaitlyn and son Caden. 

Nicholls has been involved with charity work throughout his hockey career, donating time and money to various causes. He has also served as a coach with the Canada men's national ice hockey team.

He won a silver medal with the Czechoslovakia national team at the 1988 Winter Olympics. He was elected to the European Parliament in 2004. He served until 2014. In 1995, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He died from the disease in 2014 at the age of 55.

Talbot passed away on January 30, 2018 at the age of 90. Jean-Guy Talbot played defence for the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings, St.

Louis Blues, and Buffalo Sabres during his playing career. He was a Norris Trophy finalist with Montreal in 1970 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990. Talbot was born in Quebec City, Canada and died in Toronto, Canada at the age of 65.

Dick Duff is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee and one of the most successful players in Maple Leafs history. Duff played his entire career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was a key player on their Stanley Cup-winning teams in the 1960s.

He was a prolific scorer, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006. Dick Duff is a respected figure in hockey, and has lent his support to various charities and causes. 

He currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, and remains a popular figure in the hockey community.

Duff was a left wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and Los Angeles Kings in a career lasting from 1954 to 1972. 

He was known for his strong shot and was a consistent scorer throughout his career. Duff was a key member of the Stanley Cup-winning teams for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962 and 1964 and the Montreal Canadiens in 1965.

He was also part of the Buffalo Sabres teams that won the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1973. Duff was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977. 

He was named the NHL's First Star of the Month for October 1967. He was awarded the Lester B. Pearson Award as the country's top player in 1971. He died in 1972 at the age of 48 after a long battle with cancer.

Larry Hillman was born in 1937 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He played defence for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Los Angeles Kings during his NHL career.

Hillman won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1971 and was also a part of the team that won the Cup in 1976. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.

Hillman died on May 31, 2022, aged 85. Larry Hillman was a key player for the Detroit Red Wings for many years. Hillman was also a key player for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Los Angeles Kings.

Hillman was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. Hillman retired from playing in 1976. Hillman is currently a television analyst for the Detroit Red Wings. 

Hillman is also the president of the Larry Hillman Foundation, which helps children and families in need. Hillman was born in 1943.

Final Words

The Stanley Cup is one of the most iconic trophies in all of professional sports. First awarded in 1893, it has been won by some of the greatest players in history.
