The Western Hockey League (WHL) is one of the top junior ice hockey leagues in North America, providing a platform for talented players to develop and hone their skills as they move closer to the professional ranks. Established in 1966, the WHL is comprised of 22 teams from across Western Canada and the Northwestern United States.

The teams compete for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, and the winner moves on to the Memorial Cup, Canada’s national junior championship tournament. WHL players have gone on to play in the NHL, AHL, and other professional leagues around the world.

It is one of the three leagues that make up the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. With its rich history and deep talent pool, the WHL is an exciting and important part of Canada’s hockey landscape.

Jarome Iginla was born in Edmonton, Alberta on July 1st, 1977. He played for the Calgary Flames from 1995-2008 and then moved onto the Pittsburgh Penguins for 3 seasons before joining the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Iginla has won a Stanley Cup with both Calgary and Pittsburgh and he also achieved further success with the Colorado Avalanche in 2013/14 season where they made it to the Finals but lost to Dallas Stars. 

In 2020, Jarome Iginla will be inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame after an illustrious career playing right wing for some of hockey's biggest clubs including Calgary, Pittsburgh, Boston and Colorado respectively.

Jarome Iginla is a retired professional ice hockey player who played for the Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars in his career.

He was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the 11th overall pick in the 1995 NHL Draft and made his debut with them during the 1996-97 season. 

In 2001, he was traded to Pittsburgh where he won two Stanley Cups before moving to Boston in 2003. He then joined Dallas ahead of the 2005-06 season and helped them win their first ever Stanley Cup that year.

In 2007, Iginla moved back to Calgary but failed to help them reach another Stanley Cup Finals appearance despite playing well for most of the campaign. 

He returned to Pittsburgh at the end of that season and won another cup there before retiring after 17 seasons as a pro player in 2017.

Propp was born in 1959 and played his entire career in the NHL. Propp is best known for being a left winger, but he also played centre and defence. Propp had an unusual playing style; he would often use his body to block shots or create turnovers.

Propp retired from professional hockey in 1998 after spending most of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and HC Lugano (Switzerland). 

After retiring from hockey, Propp became a TV commentator for various events including the IIHF World Championships and Stanley Cup Finals..

In 2010, Brian Propp was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame Propp played for the Philadelphia Flyers from 1979 to 1994. He was a part of Canada's national team at the World Championships in 1982 and 1983, as well as playing in the Canada Cup in 1987 and 1992. 

Propp also won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 1984 Winter Olympics. Propp retired from professional hockey after being drafted 14th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1979.

Lanny McDonald is a retired right winger who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in the NHL. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.

McDonald began his hockey career with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 1974, he was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs and made his NHL debut that same year. 

After two seasons with Toronto, he was traded to Edmonton in 1977 where he spent nine seasons before being traded to Vancouver in 1982-83.

In 1984, McDonald won his first Stanley Cup as part of the Oilers team that defeated Detroit Red Wings in six games. A four-time All-Star player, McDonald scored more than 1,000 points during his career which ended after 14 seasons with Vancouver in 1994-95 season. 

He finished his playing days as an assistant coach with both Edmonton and Vancouver until 2007 when he stepped down from this position due to illness.

Lanny has since become a television commentator for CBC Sports covering various leagues across North America including Major Junior hockey.

Bernie Federko was a very skilled player in the NHL. He played his entire career with the St. Louis Blues, where he won three Stanley Cups and was an All-Star six times.

He is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2002. After retiring from hockey, Bernie became a television commentator and helped to promote ice hockey worldwide.

In 2006, he published his autobiography called "Breaking The Ice". Bernie currently resides in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan with his wife Tracey and their two children Nolan and Sierra Bernie Federko was a bruising forward who played for the St.

Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers in his playing career. He averaged over 20 goals per season during his time with each team. In 1990, he announced his retirement from professional hockey after recording 1,246 points in 935 games.

After retiring from hockey, Bernie pursued a successful career as an agent and businessman. He is currently the president of AGM Sports Management LLP., which represents athletes and sports clubs around the world.

Cliff Ronning was born on October 1, 1965 in Burnaby, British Columbia. He played for the St. Louis Blues as a centre and is 5'8" tall and 170 lbs. Cliff has shot left throughout his career and scored over 1000 points in his NHL career.

Cliff currently resides with his wife Allison in Langley BC where they have two children - Colton (born 2006) and Paige (born 2008). Cliff Ronning was a dominant player in the NHL for over a decade. 

He helped lead the Vancouver Canucks to their first Stanley Cup championship in 1994, and he also represented Canada at international tournaments numerous times.

Cliff Ronning is best known for his offensively-minded play. He was an extremely creative player with outstanding hands and hockey sense, which made him very difficult to defend against. 

In 2004, Cliff Ronning retired from professional hockey after playing 11 seasons with the St Louis Blues. He now works as an analyst for TSN Sportsnet Pacific and contributes regularly to several sports newspapers across North America.

Cliff Ronning is one of only four players in history to score more than 1,000 goals and record over 500 assists in the NHL – along with Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Gordie Howe. 

Thanks to his consistent excellence on the ice throughout his career, Cliff Ronnng has been inducted into both the Hockey Hall of Fame (in 2009) and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame (in 2007).

Moran played centre for the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League from 2007 to 2011. Moran was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round, 56th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Moran has also played for HC Davos and HC Sibir Novokuznetsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). 

Moran is a two-time recipient of an AHL Second All-Star Team selection (2008, 2009). On June 26, 2014, Moran signed with EHC Basel of Switzerland's National League A (NLA) as a free agent.

In 2015–16 season with Basel he won his 4th NLA championship and became Swiss hockey legend after scoring game winning goal against ZSC Lions in overtime during decisive final game 7 on May 22nd 2016 Brad Moran is one-of-a-kind player who can play any position on ice very well.

He had great seasons at both lower levels before coming over to North America full time has experience playing against some top tier competition.

Ray Ferraro played centre for the Hartford Whalers for four seasons. He was a key player on their teams that made it to the playoffs each year, and was named to the NHL All-Star Team in 1988.

Ferraro was drafted by the Whalers in the second round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey with the Kamloops Blazers before being drafted by the Whalers. 

Ferraro was an important player on the Whalers' teams that reached the playoffs in each of his four seasons with the team.

He was named to the NHL All-Star Team in 1988. After playing for the Whalers, Ferraro played for the St. Louis Blues and the Quebec Nordiques. Ferraro retired in 2001. 

Ferraro is currently a scout for the Whalers. Ferraro was born in British Columbia, Canada. Ferraro is married and has two children.

Robin Soudek is a Czech forward who played for the AlpsHL team in the 2013-14 season. Soudek had a successful season with the team, scoring 36 goals and adding 36 assists for 72 points in 54 games.

Prior to playing in the AlpsHL, Soudek played for HC Plzeň in the Czech Extraliga. Soudek was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Soudek has also played for the Slovakian national team.

Soudek is a two-time Extraliga champion with HC Plzeň. Soudek has also played for the Czech Republic at the World Championships and the World Cup of Hockey. 

Soudek has announced that he will be leaving the AlpsHL team to join the Montreal Canadiens organization in the Canadian Hockey League.

Matthew Savoie was born in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada in 2004. At 5' 9" and 179 pounds, Savoie is a centre. 

Savoie has played for the Vancouver Giants, Edmonton Oil Kings, and Calgary Hitmen in the WHL, the Manitoba Moose in the AHL, and the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL.

Conor Geekie is a 18-year-old Canadian center who was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 4th round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Geekie played major junior hockey with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL, scoring 149 points in 148 games.

Geekie was signed by the Rangers to a three-year, entry-level contract in July of 2016. Geekie made his NHL debut in a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on October 5th, 2016. Geekie was assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL for the 2017-2018 season.

Geekie was recalled to the Rangers on February 26th, 2018 and scored his first NHL goal in a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Geekie was recalled to the Rangers again on March 21st, 2018 and scored his first NHL hat-trick in a 6-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Carson Lambos is a defenceman for the Winnipeg Ice in the American Hockey League. He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 3rd round, 66th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Lambos played for the U.S. National Team Development Program before joining the Ice. He has played in the AHL for the Manitoba Moose, the St. John's IceCaps, and the Winnipeg Jets.

He has played in 36 games for the Ice this season, scoring one goal and adding six assists. Lambos is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is a member of the United States men's national ice hockey team.

Kevin Korchinski is a Canadian defenceman who was drafted in the first round, sixth overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. 

Korchinski played in the World Junior Championships for Canada in 2015 and 2016, helping his country win a silver medal in 2016.

Korchinski played major junior hockey with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and was named to the WHL First All-Star Team in 2016. 

Korchinski made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks in the 2016-17 season and has since played in 63 games, scoring four goals and nine assists.

Korchinski was traded to the Ottawa Senators in the summer of 2018 and has played in 32 games with Ottawa, scoring one goal and three assists. 

Korchinski is a strong defensive player and is known for his shot blocking and physical play. Korchinski is expected to be a key player for the Senators in the future.

Korchinski is a citizen of Canada and is eligible to play for Canada in the 2019 World Championship. Korchinski is a four-time member of the Canada Men's National Team and was a part of the team that won the World Cup of Hockey in 2017.

Rob Brown was born in Kingston, Ontario on April 10, 1968. He played junior hockey for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before being drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.

After two seasons with the North Stars, Brown was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 1991. Brown played with the Kings for six seasons before being traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999. Brown played with the Thrashers for three seasons before retiring in 2003.

Brown began coaching with the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League in 2006 and has since been promoted to head coach of the team. 

Brown was inducted into the Ontario Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013. Brown was named head coach of the Canadian Men's National Team in December of 2016.

Glen Goodall is a centre who played for Flint Spirits and the Adirondack Red Wings. Goodall was born in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada in 1970. Goodall played junior hockey for the Spokane Chiefs and the Calgary Hitmen before turning professional.

Goodall played for the Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League (IHL) before moving to the American Hockey League (AHL) to play for the Adirondack Red Wings. 

Goodall was a member of the Canadian national team and competed in the World Championships in 1995, the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and the Winter Olympics in 1998.

Goodall retired from hockey in 2002 and has since worked as a coach. Goodall has two daughters and lives in Adirondack, New York. 

Glen Goodall played for the Detroit Red Wings from 1990 to 2010. He was a member of the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1992 and was a part of the Red Wings' Stanley Cup-winning squad in 1997. Glen Goodall also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, and Colorado Avalanche.

He was a member of Canada's gold medal-winning team at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Glen Goodall is currently the goaltending coach for the Binghamton Rangers.

Jock Callander is a 61-year-old Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is best known for playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL).

He was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He has also played for the Cleveland Barons, the Calgary Flames, and the Hartford Whalers.

Callander has played in over 1000 NHL games, scoring 266 goals and adding 287 assists. He has also won two Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs in 1994 and 2002. Callander was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006.

He currently coaches the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). Callander was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 23, 1961. 

Jock Callander was born on October 10, 1962 in Orillia, Ontario. He played his first professional hockey season with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1982-83.

He then played for the Tampa Bay Lightning until 2000. He held the record for most games played in the NHL with 1,564. 

He was also a member of the Canadian national team, and won a silver medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics. He retired from professional hockey in 2000. He now works as a hockey analyst for TSN and ESPN.

He was inducted into the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. He is married with three children.

Greg Hawgood was a defenceman for the Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, and Chicago Wolves. He played in the NHL for 13 seasons and was a part of three Stanley Cup teams.

Hawgood was a member of the Canada men's national ice hockey team for 10 years and played in the Olympic Games. He retired from hockey in 2007. Greg Hawgood is now a hockey coach.

He is the head coach of the Boston Jr. Bruins. Greg Hawgood was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 202nd overall pick in the 1986 NHL Draft. 

He played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, and Vancouver Canucks during his playing career.

Hawgood retired in 2006 after playing 13 seasons in the NHL. He currently owns and operates an ice rink in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. 

Hawgood was inducted into the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He was also named as one of the 35 greatest players in Flyers history by the team.

Hawgood is currently a color commentator for the Flyers broadcasts on Fox Sports Philadelphia. He is married and has two daughters.

Dan Hodgson is a centre who has played for HC Fribourg-Gottéron, EHC Basel and the Canada national team. He was born in Alberta, Canada, in 1965. Hodgson played junior hockey for the Fort Vermilion Avalanche before joining HC Fribourg-Gottéron.

He played for EHC Basel from 1988 to 1992, before returning to HC Fribourg-Gottéron. Hodgson was a part of the Canada squad that won the silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. He retired from professional hockey in 1997. Hodgson is now a hockey coach.

Hodgson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007. Hodgson lives in Fribourg, Switzerland. Dan Hodgson was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 83rd overall draft in 1983. 

Hodgson played his entire professional career with the Maple Leafs, where he was a part of six Stanley Cup-winning teams.

Hodgson also represented Canada at the World Championships and the Olympics. Hodgson retired from the NHL in 2005. Dan Hodgson is currently an assistant coach with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland. 

Hodgson is a two-time inductee into the Maple Leafs Hall of Fame. Dan Hodgson is a respected member of the hockey community and is often referred to as one of the best defencemen in Maple Leafs history.

Hodgson is also the father of current NHL player Jesse Hodgson. Dan Hodgson is a true legend in the hockey world and will always be remembered for his accomplishments on the ice.

Brian Sakic was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada on September 4, 1971. He played for the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, and Colorado Avalanche (again) before being traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2001.

Sakic spent his entire 17-year career with the Nuggets, retiring in 2013. He won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001 and 2006. 

Sakic was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013. He is currently the president of hockey operations for the Avalanche.

Sakic is married to Lara, with two children. He is a francophone and speaks seven languages. Sakic is a passionate advocate for health and wellness and has raised over $5 million for various charities. 

Brian Sakic was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 93rd overall pick in the 1990 NHL Draft.

Sakic played for the Erie Panthers of the ECHL for four seasons before joining the NHL with the Washington Capitals in 1992. Sakic spent the next twelve seasons with the Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup in 1997 and reaching the Finals in 1998. 

In 1999, Sakic was traded to the Colorado Avalanche and finished his playing career with the team in 2001.

Sakic is now a front-office executive with the Avalanche and has won two Stanley Cups as an executive with the team. Sakic is one of the most successful players in NHL history and is widely considered to be one of the greatest players of all time.

Bud Holloway is a right wing player with the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 3rd round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

He has also played for the Edmonton Oilers and the Boston Bruins. Bud Holloway has played in over 500 games in the NHL and AHL. He has also played for Team Canada at the World Championships and the World Junior Championships.

Bud Holloway is a two-time AHL All-Star and was the recipient of the Aldege Housley Award in 2016. Bud Holloway is an ambassador for the St. John's IceCaps and is involved in various charities. In 2017, Bud Holloway became a father for the first time.

Jim McGeough is a Canadian center who has played in the NHL for over 20 years. McGeough was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

He played for the Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Calgary Flames, and the Philadelphia Flyers before joining the Dallas Stars in the 2013-14 season.

Derlago is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. Derlago played his entire 20-year NHL career with the Bruins.

He was a two-time Stanley Cup champion (1984, 1985). Derlago was also a six-time All-Star (1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987). He retired from the NHL in 1993. Derlago has since been a color commentator for Bruins broadcasts.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002. Derlago was also named a member of the Canada Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. 

Bill Derlago was drafted fourth overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1978 NHL Draft. Derlago played for the Canucks for six seasons before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1983.

Chaz Lucius is a 19-year-old center from Lawrence, Kansas. He was a key member of the Lawrence High School basketball team that won the Kansas State Championship in his senior year.

Lucius was a highly decorated player as a high school student. He was named a McDonald's All-American and a Parade All-American. He was also a two-time Kansas Mr. Basketball and a two-time Academic All-American.

Lucius attended the University of Kansas, where he played for the Jayhawks. He was a three-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and a two-time National Player of the Year finalist. Lucius entered the NBA draft in 2017, but instead opted to return to the University of Kansas for his final year of college.

Lucius is a key part of the Jayhawks' team that is currently ranked number one in the nation. He is averaging 20.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. Lucius is a versatile player who can play both center and power forward positions. He is considered to be one of the best players in the nation and is a potential future Hall of Famer.

Lucius is a member of the United States men's national basketball team. He has represented the country at the FIBA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Lucius is married and has two young children. He enjoys playing sports and spending time with his family.

Pinder is best known for his time with the Black Hawks where he played from 1971 to 1983. Pinder was a right wing and shot right. Pinder was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.

Pinder currently resides in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Pinder is married and has two children. Pinder is retired from hockey and currently works as a TV commentator. Pinder is a passionate fan of the sport and regularly attends games.

Gerry Pinder was born in the town of Fort St. John, British Columbia on November 10, 1949. Pinder started his professional hockey career with the San Diego Mariners in 1969. 

The 6'2", 195-pound left-winger spent the next eleven seasons with the Mariners, scoring 273 goals and adding 293 assists for 515 points in 522 regular season games.

Pinder was a member of the Oilers' Stanley Cup-winning team in 1984. Pinder retired from playing in 1978, but continued to work as a player agent until his death on January 16, 2010.

The Western Hockey League is one of the top junior ice hockey leagues in North America, and has produced some of the best players in the history of the sport.
