The Croatia national football team is the representative football team of Croatia and is one of the most successful teams from Central and Eastern Europe. The team has achieved great success in recent years, most notably at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the final and finished as runners-up.

The team is managed by Zlatko Dalić and is captained by Luka Modrić. The team has enjoyed a long history of success in international football, having won the bronze medal at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the gold medal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The team has also won several other awards, including a record seven Balkan Cup titles.

Modrić is a Croatian footballer who plays for Real Madrid in La Liga. He has played for Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Zaprešić and Real Madrid.

 Modrić was born on September 9th, 1985 in Zadar, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia to a footballing family; his father Miodrag played professionally while his brother Dražen also played professional football.

After starting out with local side Zadar before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2003 at the age of 18, he became one of the most consistent players in Croatia during their successful period domestically and abroad between 2003-2008 appearing 94 times and scoring 26 goals (including 24 league goals). 

In 2004 he joined Inter Zaprešić on loan where he made 16 appearances scoring 4 goals and helping them win the Croatian Cup that season which saw him named Player of The Tournament by UEFA as well as being voted into the Bundesliga Team Of The Year by German magazine Kicker.

On July 1st, 2008 it was announced that Modric had signed for Tottenham Hotspur after protracted negotiations with both clubs reaching an agreement late on deadline day.

Following interest from other Premier League sides including Chelsea and Manchester United but within weeks Spurs chairman Daniel Levy announced that they had re-signed Luka to a new long term deal making him one of London's most coveted players ever. 

During his two seasons at White Hart Lane playing 102 games and scoring 23 goals it was evident that there were few midfielders able to match up against him or create chances similarly whether it be Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, or Samir Nasri all conceding defeat when pitted against "The King".

Following Tottenham’s relegation from the Premier League during 2011–12 season rumors circulated linking Modric with moves away from north London although nothing came of these until January 2013.

When Spanish club Real Madrid confirmed their signing stating: “Luka will join us next summer pending international clearance” thus ending any speculation about his future. 

Since arriving at Real Madrid have completed a £ 27 million move on July 10th, 2014 (one week prior to what would have been contracting expiry).

Mateo Kovačić is a Croatian-born Austrian central midfielder who currently plays for Chelsea. He made his debut for Dinamo Zagreb in 2010 and went on to feature for Inter Milan before joining Real Madrid in 2015.

In 2019, he played 73 times for Los Blancos as they won the UEFA Champions League trophy. Kovačić has also represented Croatia at the under-21 level and was part of their squad that reached the final of the Uefa European Championship in 2016.

Marcelo Brozović is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Italian club Inter Milan. He started his career with Hrvatski Dragovoljac before joining Lokomotiva in 2011.

Brozović made 33 appearances for Lokomotiva over two seasons, helping the side to promotion to the Croatian top flight in 2012. In July 2012, he joined Serie A side Inter Milan on a three-year contract and helped them win the 2014–15 league title.

He has represented Croatia at the under-21 level and played at Euro 2016 where they reached the semi-finals but were knocked out by Portugal later that month.

After appearing regularly for Inter throughout the 2017–18 season, Brozović was named captain of their senior team ahead of UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and Switzerland in October 2018.

Dejan Lovren is a Serbian-born Croatian centre back who has played for Lyon since joining the club in 2018. He previously spent six years with Dinamo Zagreb, winning two Croatian titles and helping his side to finish as runners up in the 2013–14 Champions League.

Dejan Lovren was born on 5 July 1989 in Zenica, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia.[4] At 1.88 metres (6 ft 2 inches), he is tall enough to play at either centre back or central midfield positions but has predominantly been deployed as a defender during his career.

Dejan Lovren started playing football for BSC Sendling before moving on to NK Ilovac, where he won promotion from the second division in 2002.

After three seasons with Dinamo Zagreb – including one campaign which ended in runner-up status as Croatia qualified for Euro 2004 – Lovren joined Bundesliga outfit Karlsruher SC loaned by Dinamo until the end of 2006 season.

Signed by Liverpool permanently for £20 million (£17m plus add-ons) on 27 May 2006,[7] Dejan Lovren made 36 appearances over two seasons at Anfield and helped the Reds win their first league title since 1990.

Duje Ćaleta-Car is a Croatian footballer who currently plays for Southampton. Car started his career with Šibenik before moving to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.

Ante Rebić is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Italian club AC Milan. He started his career with Croatian side Vinjani in 2002, before moving to RNK Split two years later.

Zvonimir Boban is a Croatian footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for Milan, Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatia national team. He was born in Imotski on 8 October 1968 and started his football career at local club Mračaj Runović before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 1985.

After spells with Milan (1991–2001) and Croatia (2002–2006), he retired from playing in 2007 to become a manager of Hajduk Split. 

In 2009, he returned to coaching duties with NK Osijek, leading them to the 2010 Croatian Cup final where they were beaten by HNK Rijeka 2−1 after extra time.

On 28 May 2013, Boban was appointed head coach of Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC; however, he left the club just over two months later without having won a single game or scored a goal.

He rejoined Hajduk Split on 9 November 2013,[3] but resigned from his position on 23 February 2014 due to differences with new president Antonio Buontempo.[4] On 16 December 2014 it was announced that Boban would be returning to management as an assistant coach at Milano.

Niko Kovač is a former German footballer and current manager of Bundesliga side VFL Wolfsburg. He began his career with Hertha BSC, playing in the Bundesliga for them from 1990 to 1991.

Afterwards he had brief spells at Rapid Wedding and Hertha Zehlendorf before joining Bayern Munich in 1993 where he remained until 2001. 

He then spent two seasons with Borussia Dortmund, making a total of 291 appearances and scoring 16 goals during his time there before retiring at the end of 2004-05 season.

In 2009 he took over as head coach of Hannover 96, leading them to promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season but being sacked after just five months due to poor results.

Josip Šimunić is a defender who currently plays for Croatia U19 as their manager. He started his career at Croatian side Deakin in 1993 and played with them until 1995, before moving to Australian Institute of Sport where he won the 1996–97 AIS Championship.

Mario Pašalić is a German-born Croatian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Italian club Atalanta. In 2013, he joined Premier League side Chelsea on a free transfer from Hajduk Split and made no appearances for the Blues during his two-year stay in London.

Zlatko Dalić was born on October 26, 1966 in Livno, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia. He started his senior career at Hajduk Split in 1983. After spending two seasons with Hajduk Split, he moved to Dinamo Vinkovci in 1987.
