The Polish Ekstraklasa is the top professional soccer league in Poland and is a beloved source of entertainment and pride for the country. It is contested by 18 teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation with the I Liga.

The season is divided into two parts, with matches occurring between July and May/June of the following year. Since the 2019-20 season, the league has been sponsored by PKO Bank Polski and is now known as the PKO Ekstraklasa.

The Ekstraklasa has produced some of Poland’s most successful teams, including Legia Warszawa, Cracovia Kraków, and Lech Poznań. Fans from all over the country flock to stadiums to cheer on their favorite teams and support their country’s premier soccer league.

Robert Lewandowski is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish club Barcelona. He began his career with Delta Warsaw, before joining Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2005.

In 2010, he signed for Bayern Munich and helped the team clinch the Bundesliga title that season. After one year at Madrid-based Real Madrid, Lewandowski rejoined Bayern Munich on a long-term deal in 2013.

He has won three consecutive La Liga titles with Barcelona (2014–16), as well as two Champions League crowns (2015 and 2017).

Szczęsny is a Polish goalkeeper who has been playing for Juventus since 2017. Szczęsny made his debut for Poland in 2016 and played at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Szczęsny is 1.96 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper for Juventus in Italy's Serie A. Szczęsny was born on 18 April 1990 in Warsaw, Poland and began his career with Agrykola Warsaw before moving to Juventus in 2017.

Piotr Zieliński is a Polish midfielder who currently plays for Napoli. He started his career with Orzeł Ząbkowice Śląskie and played for them until 2011.

In the meantime, he spent two seasons at Zagłębie Lubin before joining Napoli in 2017. Although primarily an attacking midfielder, Piotr has also been used as a central defender and even as a goalkeeper on occasions - something which evidently impressed Maurizio Sarri when he signed him up.

Fabiański is a Polish goalkeeper who currently plays for West Ham United in the English Premier League. He made his debut for Poland in 2007 and has since played at several major tournaments, including the 2010 World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.

Arkadiusz Milik is a Polish international striker who currently plays for Juventus on loan from Marseille. He made his professional debut with Rozwój Katowice in 2011 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 36 goals.

Piszczek is a Polish international footballer who currently plays for Goczałkowice-Zdrój in the Polish Second Division. He began his career at Ruch Chorzów, before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2010.

There he won two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2013/14. In 2016, he signed with Tottenham Hotspur but only made one appearance before being loaned back to Dortmund the following season.

He announced his retirement from professional football after making just four appearances for Spurs during the 2018–19 campaign due to injury problems.

Boruc is a goalkeeper who has played for clubs in Poland and England. Boruc joined English club Southampton in 2006, where he made over 200 appearances until his departure to Legia Warsaw in 2021.

Szymon Żurkowski is a Polish footballer who plays for Fiorentina as a midfielder. September 25, 1997 in Tychy, Silesia. He made his professional debut with MOSiR Jastrzebie Zdroj in the Polish Ekstraklasa at the age of 17 years and 327 days.

In February 2018 he signed a six-year contract with Fiorentina.[2] Poland at under-19 and under-21 levels, before making his senior international debut in October 2017 against Lithuania.

Rafał Gikiewicz is a Polish goalkeeper who currently plays for German side FC Augsburg. Gikiewicz started his career at local side Warmia Olsztyn and made 179 appearances before moving to Stomil Olsztyn in 2009.

Krzynówek started his senior career at RKS Radomsko, before moving to Poland's powerhouse KS Cracovia in 1997. He made his international debut in 1999, and went on to represent his country at the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

In 2007, Krzynówek moved to Fiorentina, before joining AC Milan in 2010. He left the Italian side in 2012, and has since played for Anderlecht, Everton and West Bromwich Albion. In total, Krzynówek has made over 250 appearances for his country, scoring 26 goals.

Ernest Pohl was a Polish football player who played for Hertha Berlin, Dynamo Kiev, and Grasshopper Club Zurich. He was known for his accurate passing and ability to create opportunities for his teammates.

Pohl died in 1995 at the age of 66 from a heart attack. Ernest Pohl was a German-born science fiction and fantasy writer. He is most famous for his novel Gateway, which was first published in 1954.

He also wrote short stories and novels, including the Hugo Award-winning novel The Space Merchants.

Pohl was a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 1998. He died in Hausach, Germany in 2004.

Jan Tomaszewski is one of the most decorated goalkeepers in Polish football history. He has won a total of six titles, including three Polish Cups and two Polish League Titles.

Jan Tomaszewski made his professional debut with Śląsk Wrocław in 1963. He spent the majority of his career with the club, winning three Polish League Titles and two Polish Cups.

Jan Tomaszewski spent two seasons with Legia Warsaw, before moving to ŁKS Łódź in 1978. He won two Polish Cups with the club. Jan Tomaszewski retired from professional football in 1981.

He later served as the coach of Legia Warsaw between 1997 and 1999. Jan Tomaszewski was inducted into the Polish Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Jan Tomaszewski currently works as a football commentator for Polish television.

Józef Młynarczyk is a Polish goalkeeper who played for Astra Nowa Sól and many other Polish clubs. He was a part of the Polish team that won the UEFA European Championship in 1976.

Młynarczyk also represented his country at the 1982 World Cup and the 1986 European Championship. He retired from professional football in 1989. Młynarczyk has since worked as a football coach.

He is currently the manager of Górnik Zabrze. Młynarczyk was named the Best Goalkeeper of the 1976 European Championship by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics. He was also named the Best Goalkeeper of the 1982 World Cup by the IFFHS.

Młynarczyk has been a member of the Polish Football Hall of Fame since 2006. Józef Młynarczyk is a Polish international footballer who played as a defender.

He started his career with Polish side Dozamet Nowa Sól, before joining BKS Stal in 1974. Młynarczyk then moved to Dutch side Odra Opole, before joining Polish side Widzew Łódź in 1980.

He went on to play for Portuguese side Porto, before retiring in 1989. Młynarczyk made 42 appearances for Poland, including ten appearances at the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

Włodzimierz Smolarek was born on 16 July 1957 in Aleksandrów Łódzki, Poland. Smolarek started his career with Włókniarz Aleksandrów Łódzki. He then played for clubs such as Legia Warsaw, Górnik Zabrze, and Ruch Chorzów.

Smolarek made his international debut for Poland in 1980. He played a total of 95 international matches, scoring 25 goals. Smolarek retired from professional football in 2001.

He subsequently worked as a football coach. On 7 March 2012, Smolarek died at the age of 54 after a long battle with cancer.

Smolarek was a versatile player, capable of playing as a winger or an attacking midfielder. He is best known for his time with Legia Warsaw, where he helped the club win the Polish Cup.
