The 2006 NBA Draft was a landmark event in the history of basketball, as it marked the first time that teams had an opportunity to select players from a deep pool of talented and highly skilled collegiate athletes. It also saw some of the biggest names in professional basketball come into their own, including future stars such as LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo. The draft provided an exciting look at what could be for many franchises across the league and signaled a new era for pro ball.

LaMarcus Aldridge is a center and power forward who has spent his entire career with the Portland Trail Blazers. LaMarcus Aldridge was drafted second overall in the 2006 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls but never played for them due to a contract dispute.

He instead joined the Portland Trail Blazers and quickly became one of their most important players, winning an NBA championship in 2015. In 2018, LaMarcus Aldridge announced that he would be leaving Portland at the end of the season to join the San Antonio Spurs as a free agent.

LaMarcus Aldridge is considered one of the best big men in history and will go down as one of basketball's all-time greats LaMarcus Aldridge is a 7-time NBA All-Star and 2x All-NBA Second Team selection. 

He was drafted 3rd overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007 but only played one season with them before being traded to San Antonio.

In his first year with the Spurs, he led the team in scoring and won his first NBA Championship. LaMarcus has also been a huge part of the Spurs' success over the past few years, helping lead them to back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.

Well as making an appearance in this year's Finals once again. Outside of basketball, LaMarcus is known for his philanthropy work - most notably donating $1 million towards building playgrounds in impoverished areas across Texas.

With two more seasons left on his contract with San Antonio, it looks like we could be seeing some more great things from LaMarcus Aldridge - who will always be remembered as one of the greatest power forwards ever to play the game.

Brandon Roy was originally drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2006, but he never played for them. He then signed with the Portland Trail Blazers and spent six seasons with them before retiring in 2013.

In 2016, Roy became an assistant coach for his former team, the Portland Trail Blazers. He remained on this position until 2018 when he left to become head coach of the Seattle SuperSonics, a team that had just been created as part of NBA expansion into Las Vegas.

As head coach of Seattle, Roy has led them to two straight playoff appearances and a first-round victory over Golden State Warriors in 2019 playoffs thus far.

Brandon Roy is currently one win away from becoming only second player ever (after Michael Jordan) to lead their respective teams all the way to a championship final game.

Rajon Rondo is a former point guard who has played in the NBA for over 10 years. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns and spent four seasons with them before moving to the Boston Celtics in 2009.

Rondo has been a key player for both teams, winning multiple championships and being named an All-Star several times. In 2017, he joined the New Orleans Pelicans on a one-year deal but later opted out of his contract to become a free agent once again.

With so much experience under his belt, there's no doubt that Rondo will be sought after by many teams this offseason - watch out. 

Rajon Rondo is a 2-time NBA champion and 4-time All-Star. Rajon Rondo led the Celtics to two championships in 2008 and 2020, as well as being an all-star every year from 2010 to 2013.

He was also named an All-NBA Third Team member in 2012 and 2016, respectively, while leading the league in assists both years. In 2009 he won his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award whilst also finishing third in MVP voting that season behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant. 

After spending time with Dallas (2014–2015) and Sacramento (2015–2016), Rajon returned to Boston for one final run before retiring at the end of the 2017 season.

4. Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay was born in New York City and attended Eastern Technical High School before playing college basketball at UConn. After being drafted by the Houston Rockets, Gay played for them from 2006 to 2014.

In January 2015, he signed with the Sacramento Kings and has since been their starting small forward. Rudy Gay has averaged 18 points per game over his career and is a three-time All-Star (2010, 2012, 2013).

Rudy Gay is a veteran player in the NBA who has played for Memphis, Toronto, and Sacramento. He's known for his scoring ability and was an All-Rookie First-Team selection in 2007. In 2017, he joined San Antonio and has since been playing well for them - averaging 19 points per game this season.

Gay is married with three children and lives in Utah where he works as a radio personality with KSL Radio 97 FM.

5. Kyle Lowry

Kyle Lowry is a point guard for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and played college basketball at Villanova.

Lowry was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2006 but never played a game for them before being traded to Toronto midway through his rookie season. Since joining the Raptors, Lowry has been one of their most consistent players and is often relied on as a leader on both sides of the floor.

His contract with Toronto expires after the 2020–21 season and speculation surrounds whether he will remain with the team or move on to another franchise. 

Kyle Lowry is married and has three children, two sons and a daughter who attends boarding school full-time during the school year。 Kyle Lowry is a two-time NBA All-Star and champion.

Kyle Lowry was a key player on Villanova's title team in 2005. Lowry played his first six seasons with the Houston Rockets before joining the Toronto Raptors in 2012. 

In 2017, he helped lead Miami to their first championship since 2006. Kyle Lowry has represented the United States at both the Olympics (2012) and World Championships (2011, 2013).

Andrea Bargnani is a professional basketball player who has played for the Toronto Raptors and Benetton Treviso in his career. Andrea Bargnani was drafted first overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2006, after playing for Stella Azzurra Roma from 2002-2003.

Andrea Bargnani was an All Star selection with the Raptors in 2013 and 2014, before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2015. After two seasons with Brooklyn, Bargnani signed with Italian team Torino where he remains currently playing. 

Andrea Bargnani is known for his scoring prowess from inside and out of the paint, as well as his passing abilities on offense which have drawn comparisons to former NBA greats Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant.

In 2017, it was announced that BargnANI had been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left elbow that would end his season prematurely; this came just one year after signing a five-year contract extension worth over $60 million USD with Torino.

Despite these setbacks, reports state that Andrea BargnANI still intends on returning to play at some point during next season.

JJ Redick is an American professional basketball player who has played for the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Clippers in his career. He was drafted 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA draft and spent six seasons with them before moving to Milwaukee in 2013.

In 2017 he joined the Clippers and helped lead them to their first playoff appearance since 2012 that year. At 38 years old, Redick is still playing at a high level and looks set to continue doing so for some time yet. Redick is a two-time consensus first-team All-American and ACC Player of the Year.

He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2006 and spent 7 seasons with them before moving to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019. Redick has won multiple awards, including 2 Rupp Trophies (2005, 2006) and a Consensus First Team NABC award (2004). 

JJ Redick is one of Duke's most decorated players ever, having been selected as an honorable mention Mr. Basketball (2002), McDonald's All American Game MVP (2002), and Second Team Parade All-American (2002).

Sefolosha has been a key player for the Atlanta Hawks since he joined the team in 2016. Sefolosha was born in Vevey, Switzerland and played college basketball at Chalon Élan before being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sefolosha is a two-time All-Star and won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2019. 

Sefolosha is known for his toughness on the court, as he has averaged more than 10 points per game throughout his career despite being limited to playing shooting guard or small forward positions because of injury.

He will be 39 years old when he finishes his professional basketball career, making him one of the oldest players ever to play in the NBA Finals Sefolosha was a key player for the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz during his 10-year career. 

He was one of the most versatile players in the NBA, being able to play both frontcourt positions.

Sefolosha also had a very good shot from outside, which helped him score points consistently throughout his career. Injuries limited him to playing only 54 games in 2017–2018 due to a left knee injury, but he bounced back with 13 points per game for Houston Rockets in 2019 playoffs. 

Overall, Sefolosha is considered as one of the best perimeter defenders in league history and will be missed by many fans across the NBA.

9. Paul Millsap

Paul Millsap is a 2017–2018 All-Star and 2-time Defensive Player of the Year. He was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2006 and has played for them since then, except for one season where he spent time with the Atlanta Hawks.

In his 17 seasons in the NBA, Millsap has averaged 18 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. His contract with the Denver Nuggets expires at the end of 2020, so it will be interesting to see what he does next year. Millsap is a versatile player who can play both forward positions.

Millsap was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2006 and has played for them since then. He is a three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Second Team selection, as well as being WAC Player of the Year twice. 

In 2013, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks and has been there ever since - making him one of only six players to have stayed with one team throughout their NBA career so far.

Millsap will miss part of the season after undergoing surgery on his left thumb but is expected to make a full recovery in time for next year's campaign hopefully. 

Paul loves playing against fellow countryman Damian Lillard, stating that they are "two gunslingers going at it." 

When not basketballing or shooting hoops himself, you might find Millsap enjoying spending quality time with his wife (and former Miss America) Karli & their daughters Zuri & Riela or hitting up The Hangover Part III premiere party (lol).

Randy Foye is an American shooting guard and point guard who has played in the NBA for ten seasons. He was drafted seventh overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2006 NBA draft and has since played for Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic.

Foye's best season came in 2012–13 when he averaged 16 points per game with career-highs of 3 assists and 2 rebounds. In 2017, he signed with Denver Nuggets but was traded to New Orleans Pelicans just two months later before retiring at the end of that season due to injury concerns.

Randy Foye was drafted in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. He had a successful rookie season, averaging 11 points and four rebounds per game. 

In 2007, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and averaged 14 points and five rebounds per game. During his time with Utah, he played for three other teams: Denver Nuggets (2008), Oklahoma City Thunder (2009) and Brooklyn Nets (2012).

After finishing his contract with Brooklyn in 2017, Randy signed with Spanish team Real Madrid until 2020.

Tre Thomas was drafted fourth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2006. He played for the Blazers until 2016, when he was traded to Memphis Grizzlies.

In his nine-year NBA career, Thomas averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds per game. Tre is a two-time All Star (2012, 2014) and won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2012.

Tre has also been named to the All-NBA Second Team twice (2011, 2013). In September 2017, it was announced that Thomas would join FOX Sports as a color commentator for their coverage of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Tre Thomas was a second-round pick by the Chicago Bulls in 2006. Tre Thomas played college basketball at Memphis, where he was an All-SEC player and Freshman of the Year in 2006. In his six seasons with the Bulls and two with Charlotte, Thomas averaged 5 points per game.

After leaving the NBA, Tre Thomas played in Austria for three years before signing with Iowa Energy this season as a free agent.

12. Shannon Brown

Shannon Brown was a key player for the Cleveland Cavaliers during his time in the NBA. He started out as a shooting guard and played alongside some of the league's best players, including LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

After three seasons with the Cavs, Brown was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2013. There he teamed up with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash on one of the most successful teams in franchise history. In 2018, Brown decided to retire from professional basketball after playing 13 years in the league.

He remains active off-court as an entrepreneur and investor. Shannon Brown was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2008 and played there until he was traded to the Iowa Energy in 2009. 

The Lakers acquired Shannon Brown in 2011 and he spent three seasons with them before being traded to Phoenix, where he won a championship in 2013.

After winning a title with Phoenix, Shannon Brown signed with San Antonio for two more seasons before joining the Knicks as a free agent that year. 

In 2018 Shannon Brown rejoined Milwaukee on a one-year deal and is currently playing for their G League affiliate Delaware 87ers while also serving as an assistant coach under Jason Kidd at Wisconsin Herd basketball team.

Morrison was drafted third overall in the 2006 NBA draft by the Charlotte Bobcats. Morrison played for the Bobcats until 2012, when he was traded to the Miami Heat.

Morrison has won an NBA championship with both Charlotte and Miami. In 2013, Morrison signed with Turkish club Fenerbahçe Ülker Istanbul as a free agent. Morrison is one of only four players in history to score over 20,000 points and record over 2,000 rebounds in their career .

Morrison is also a two time Olympic Gold Medalist (2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics). 

Adam Morrrison has been married to former WNBA player Leslie McDonald since 2010; they have one child together Morrison was a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

He also won an NBA All-Rookie Second Team award in 2007, and helped lead the team to victory in the Turkish Cup Championship in 2012.

Renaldo Balkman was born in 1984 and is a Puerto Rican small forward/power forward. He played college ball at South Carolina, where he averaged 15.8 points per game over his two seasons there.

After going undrafted in the 2006 NBA Draft, Balkman signed with the New York Knicks and went on to play for them from 2006-2008 before signing with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2009.

Hilton Armstrong was born on November 11, 1984 in Peekskill, New York. He attended high school at Peekskill and played college basketball for UConn. After being drafted by the Hornets in 2006, Hilton spent four seasons with the team before signing with the Kings in 2010.

Sergio Rodríguez is a Spanish professional basketball player who currently plays for Real Madrid. He was drafted in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns, but never played for them as he signed with Estudiantes instead.

He has averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in his career, making him one of the most versatile players in the league. Powe is known as a fierce defender, with 82 blocks over the course of his career - which demonstrates just how important he can be on that side of the ball.

Steve Novak was a highly productive player in the NBA for many years, and he is now considered one of the league's all-time greats. He started his career with the Houston Rockets, before moving on to several other teams over the course of his playing career.

Josh Boone played college basketball at UConn, where he was a three-time All-American and helped lead the Huskies to an NCAA Championship in 2006.

Mardy Collins was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 4th 1984. Collins attended high school at Simon Gratz and played for the Temple Owls basketball team from 2002-2006.

Mouhamed Sene was a pro basketball player who played for the Seattle SuperSonics and Oklahoma City Thunder from 2005 to 2016. He originally played for the Verviers-Pepinster in Belgium before being drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2006.

Mouhamed Sene spent four seasons with the team before moving to Oklahoma City in 2009, where he spent two more seasons before retiring in 2016. In his ten-year professional career, Mouhamed Sene averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds per game while playing mainly as a center.

In 2013, Mouhamed Sene signed with Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Spain's Liga ACB after spending two seasons playing for Sharks Antibes of France's LNB Pro B league.

His contract with Baloncesto Fuenlabrada ran out at the end of 2015 but he decided to stay abroad by signing with Austin Spurs before their inaugural season in 2016 which ended up being his last year playing professional basketball.

Solomon Jones was a very productive power forward in the NBA for several seasons. He has also played center at times, but is best known as a forward. Solomon Jones was undrafted out of high school, but did well in college before being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2006.

In 2009, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers and played there until 2012 when he left to play for the Indiana Pacers and then later joined the Dallas Mavericks where he retired after playing one season in 2016-17.

Loukas Mavrokefalidis is a center and power forward who has played in the NBA for eight seasons. He was born in Jeseník, Czechoslovakia on July 25th, 1984 and began playing basketball at an early age.

He attended PAOK Thessaloniki during his teenage years before joining Virtus Roma in 2007. In 2013, he joined Valencia where he currently plays under head coach Joaquin Batista i Silva. 

Loukas Mavrokefalidis started his footballing career at hometown club Olympiacos, where he played for six years before moving to Maroussi.

After two seasons with Maroussi, Mavrokefalidis signed for Spartak St Petersburg in 2011 and helped the team win four Russian Premier League titles and the 2014 UEFA Europa League trophy. 

In 2013, Mavrokefalidis joined Barcelona where he won La Liga twice (2013–2014, 2016-2017), Copa del Rey (2015) and Supercopa de Espana (2017).

He then moved back to Greece in January 2018 when he joined AEK Athens on a three-year deal. Having made over 200 appearances for Ionikos Nikaias since joining them from Barcelona in August 2020, Mavrokefalidis is currently contracted until 2021 with Ionikos Nikaias.

Lior Eliyahu was born in 1985 in Ramat-Gan, Israel. He played for Hapoel Galil Elyon from 2003 to 2006 and Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2009 to 2010. In 2011, he signed with Caja Laboral before joining Maccabi Tel Aviv once again the following year.

Eliyahu then joined the Orlando Magic as a free agent in 2013 and remained there until 2020 when he retired at the age of 37 due to injury concerns. Lior has played power forward throughout his career, averaging 12 points per game over his 10 seasons in the NBA.

He made an appearance for Israel at the 2016 Rio Olympics where they finished 4th after losing to Brazil in the semi-finals but winning against Argentina by 2 points in overtime.

Will Blalock was born on September 8, 1983 in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended high school at East Boston and then went on to play college basketball for Iowa State.

After playing two seasons of college ball, Will was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his six-year career with the Pistons, he played mainly as a point guard but also spent time at shooting guard and small forward positions during his tenure there.

Will retired from professional basketball after playing for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013-14 season. Will Blalock was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2006 and played for them until 2007.

In 2017, he signed with Budućnost Podgorica in Montenegro where he led his team to an ABA League championship playoff berth despite averaging just 12 minutes per game due to injury problems.

After splitting time between Budućnost and Cholet Basket during the 2018–19 season, he joined Reno as their new head coach for 2019–20.

Ugboaja was born in Lagos, Nigeria on May 28th 1985. He first rose to prominence as a power forward for the Yelwa Hawks from 2003-2004 before moving to Europe and playing for UB Lagos (2004-2006) and Kager Gdynia (2006).

Ugboaja joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2006 but only played sparingly over four seasons with them before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks midway through the 2010–11 season. 

After one year with Atlanta, he signed with APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus where he spent two more seasons before returning to his homeland and joining Alabam Thunderbirds during the 2013–14 campaign.

In 2016, Ugboaji retired after six years in professional basketball having won three EuroCup titles while also appearing at two Olympic tournaments – 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing.

Without ever winning an NBA championship or making it past the second round of any playoffs tournament he competed in during that time span.

Augustine played college basketball for Illinois and was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2006. After two seasons with the Magic, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008.

Augustine spent four more seasons with Milwaukee before being waived in 2013. He then signed with the Russian team Khimki for one year but left after just six games due to a knee injury.

In 2018, Augustine joined the Greek club PAOK as a free agent but retired from professional basketball shortly afterward citing health concerns stemming from his time playing overseas as reasons behind his decision. Augustine was born in Manchester, England on July 20th, 1987.

Augustine played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals before being drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2008. In 2010, he signed with Gran Canaria of Spain and helped lead his team to a Liga ACB championship that year. 

He then moved to Valencia in 2011 and posted averages of 10 points and 5 rebounds per game while helping his team make it all the way to the EuroLeague Final Four that season where they lost to CSKA Moscow.

After two seasons in Valencia, Augustine transferred to Khimki of Russia where he averaged 14 points per game over three years before retiring from professional basketball following the 2016-2017 season due to injury. 

Since retirement, Augustine has worked as an assistant coach for UCAM Murcia, CSKA Moscow, Unicaja Málaga (both Spanish clubs), and most recently Anadolu Efes Istanbul (formerly known as Galatasaray).

Davis was born in Rochester, Michigan and attended high school there. He played college basketball at Michigan State before being drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2006.

Davis played for the Clippers from 2006 to 2016, averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds per game over that time period. In March of 2017, he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies as a free agent.

Davis has also appeared in several NBA playoff games, most notably during their run to the 2014 Western Conference Finals where they were eventually defeated by Golden State Warriors 3-1 series lead).

Paul is currently playing for Memphis Grizzlies Paul Davis was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2006. He played for the Washington Wizards from 2009-2010, and then spent four seasons with Spanish club Xacobeo Blu:Sens before signing with Khimki of Russia in 2016.

Davis has won a EuroCup title with Khimki in 2015, as well as being named to the All-EuroCup Second Team twice (2011, 2012). He is also a three-time First Team Parade All-American (2002), and was selected Mr. Basketball of Michigan in 2002.

Final Words

. . . 2006 NBA Draft was a landmark event in the history of basketball, as it marked the first time that an entire class of high school players were eligible to be drafted.

This led to some very talented and successful pros coming out of this draft, such as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
