The University of Memphis Tigers Men’s Basketball team is one of the most successful programs in college basketball. Representing the University in NCAA Division I men’s competition, they have consistently been a powerhouse program since their inception. With an impressive record that includes the 26th-highest winning percentage ever recorded by a college team and competing within.

The American Athletic Conference since 2013, it’s no wonder why fans are so passionate about this storied franchise. Each game played at Elma Roane Fieldhouse brings out legions of devoted supporters ready to cheer on the Tigers.

Tyreke Evans was a four-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion in the NBA. He helped lead the Sacramento Kings to an appearance in the 2013 NBA Finals, where they were defeated by LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

After leaving Sacramento, Evans signed with New Orleans Pelicans, but he was traded to Memphis Grizzlies just before the start of the 2019–20 season. Evans is a prolific scorer who can shoot from anywhere on the court and has excellent ball-handling skills for a point guard or shooting guard.

Although his playing career may be coming to an end, Tyreke Evans remains one of the most decorated players in basketball history with numerous accolades including five MVP awards and three championship rings as part of a successful career that also saw him win Rookie of The Year honors in 2009.

Penny Hardaway was born on July 18, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Treadwell High School and played for the Tigers as a point guard and shooting guard from 1990 to 1993.

In the NBA draft of 1993, Penny was picked third overall by the Golden State Warriors. During his playing career with the Warriors (1993-2007), he won two MVP Awards (1996, 2001) and three championships (1995-1997, 2000).

After retiring from basketball in 2007, Penny embarked on a successful coaching career with stints at Florida (2008–2011), Georgia Tech (2012–2015), Arizona State University (2016–present) and Auburn University Penny Hardaway was one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, averaging over 20 points per game throughout his career.

Penny played for six different teams during his thirteen-year playing career and won two championships with the Orlando Magic in 1993 and 1996. After finishing his playing days, Hardaway served as an assistant coach at East High School before being hired by Memphis as its new head coach this year.

James Wiseman was born on March 31, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee. He played high school basketball at The Ensworth School and then attended East Memphis High School before playing college ball at Memphis.

Wiseman is a center for the Golden State Warriors of the NBA where he has appeared in 52 games this season averaging 2 points and 1 rebound per game. 

James Wiseman's father died when he was just two years old which may have motivated him to achieve his goals as an athlete later in life; however, nothing can bring him back so all that matters is what he does with the time he has left now.

Wiseman is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee who played college basketball for the University of Kentucky. Wiseman was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 35th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. 

Wiseman has spent his entire professional career to date with the Golden State Warriors, appearing in over 200 games and averaging 5 points per game throughout his tenure. 

In 2019, Wiseman won both Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year and Gatorade National Player of The Year awards - becoming just one player to ever.

James Wiseman is considered one of if not THE most athletic players playing today due to his incredible leaping ability off two feet as well as his shooting stroke from outside.

Will Barton is a versatile shooting guard and small forward who was drafted by the Washington Wizards in 2012. He spent two seasons at Memphis before joining the Portland Trail Blazers for one season in 2016–17.

In 2017, he re-joined Washington and has since been a key player on their roster. Will Barton is known for his ability to score from all over the court, including threes and free throws. 

He has also been praised for his leadership qualities on and off the court Barton has had a successful playing career in the NBA, highlighted by being named Conference USA Player of the Year in 2012.

He began his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, before spending two seasons with the Idaho Stampede. In 2015, he joined Denver Nuggets and played there until 2018 when he was traded to Washington Wizards. 

Barton currently plays for Washington Wizards and is averaging 14 points per game this season.

Lorenzen Wright was a standout player at both high school and college levels before being drafted by the NBA. In his six-year career, Wright played for three teams before retiring in 2009.

Lorenzen Wright is best known for his time with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he helped lead them to two consecutive Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. After retirement, Lorenzen Wright struggled with substance abuse and died from an accidental overdose in 2010 at age 34.

Lorenzen Wright was a versatile player who excelled at both scoring and rebounding. He played nine seasons in the NBA, most notably with the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. 

Wright won two consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week Awards in 2002 and 2003. Lorenzen Wright was also named to three All-Star teams (2002, 2003, 2004) and won an MVP Award in 2002 while playing for the Atlanta Hawks.

6. Kendric Davis

Kendric Davis was a three-year starter for the Memphis Tigers. In his last season with Memphis, Kendric averaged 18 points per game and 4 assists per game.

He declared for the 2019 NBA Draft but did not go in the first round due to concerns about his shooting form from college which caused him to be undrafted in 2018 as well After going unselected in both drafts, Kendric signed with SMU on a partial scholarship.

Where he will try to improve his shot form and play an up-tempo style of basketball Kendric Davis is a versatile player who was both an excellent scorer and passer in high school.

He attended TCU for two seasons, where he averaged 18 points and five assists per game as a freshman before transferring to SMU due to differences with the coaching staff. In his first season at SMU, Davis helped lead the Mustangs to their second-consecutive AAC title and third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. 

As a junior, Davis led the team in scoring (22 ppg) and assists (5 apg), earning First Team All-AAC accolades along the way.

He also finished fifth in voting for College Basketball News' Player of the Year award. On May 22nd, 2020, Kendric announced that he would be returning for his final season of eligibility at Memphis after verbally agreeing to a contract earlier that month on National Signing Day morning.

7. Emoni Bates

Emoni Bates is a US high school student who will play for Eastern Michigan in 2022. She was born on January 28, 2004 and stands at 6'10" tall and weighs 170 pounds.

In her senior year of high school, she averaged 23 points per game. Her favorite basketball team is the Detroit Pistons and she also supports the University of Michigan Wolverines.

Emoni Bates is a 2020 Gatorade National Player of the Year and an upcoming senior at Ypsilanti Prep Academy in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Emoni was a three-time All-State selection in high school and helped lead her team to two state championships.

She has committed to play college basketball for Memphis next season. In addition to basketball, Emoni is also a standout track & field athlete who has recorded multiple top 10 finishes.

Throughout her career at Ypsilanti Prep Academy. Emoni's story exemplifies the power of hard work and determination; she credits much of her success to being raised by strong parents.

Shawne Williams was born in 1986 and played college basketball for Memphis. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 2006, but never played for them as he was traded to the New York Knicks in 2010.

Williams is most famous for his time with the Knicks, where he won two championships (2012 and 2017). In 2019, Williams announced his retirement from professional basketball after 17 seasons in the NBA.

Williams is a versatile small forward who has played both power forward and center in the NBA. Williams started his career with the Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game from 2006 to 2008.

He then moved on to Dallas Mavericks, where he averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds per game from 2008 to 2010 before signing with New York Knicks in 2011 for an additional season. 

With the Knicks, Williams averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game in 2012-2013 before joining the Guangzhou Liu Sui of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) that year as well as playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel's top league during 2013-2014 season.

Williams came back stateside when he joined LA Lakers for 2 seasons starting in 2014 averaging 14 minutes a night while also splitting time between Los Angeles D-Fenders of NBADL 6 In 2015.

Shawne signed with Miami Heat but was waived at midseason after appearing in just 13 games due to injury 7 Landing on Iowa Wolves last season scoring 16ppg & 10rpg earning himself a 1 year/$1 million deal this offseason with Al Rafa Club.

Rodney Carney was a shooting guard who played in the NBA for 10 seasons. He started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and finally the Chicago Bulls.

Rodney Carney is best known for his time spent with the Golden State Warriors where he won two championships – in 2010 and 2014 – as well as an MVP Award in 2014. 

After leaving the Golden State Warriors, Carney joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe Ülker where he played until 2018 when he retired from professional basketball after suffering a serious knee injury during preseason play with Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz.

Rodney Carney is a 6'7" forward who played collegiately at Memphis. He was drafted in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and has since spent time with several teams including Liaoning Dinosaurs, Antalya BSB, Capitanes de Arecibo and Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut. 

In 2015 he joined Delaware 87ers in the NBA Development League where he averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game over two seasons before joining Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya for this season.

Rodney Carney's height (6'7") as well as his ability to score inside or outside make him an interesting player to watch on both sides of the ball, whether he's playing against opponents or teammates alike.

Joey Dorsey is a power forward and center who has played in the NBA for eight seasons. He was drafted by Memphis in 2008, but he didn't make much of an impact there before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013.

After three seasons with Philly, he joined the Miami Heat on a four-year deal worth $60 million in 2017. Joey Dorsey is known as one of the most physical players in the league, and his strong rebounding skills have helped him amass over 1,000 career boards.

His shooting percentages are below average compared to other big men, but his ability to score inside and around the rim makes up for it somewhat. At 39 years old, Joey Dorsey may be nearing the end of his career, but he's still capable of putting up good numbers if given enough minutes on court each game season.

Larry Kenon was a power forward who spent his entire professional career with the Detroit Pistons. He was drafted in the third round of the 1973 NBA draft by the New York Nets and played with them for two seasons before being traded to the Detroit Pistons.

Kenon was a key player for the Pistons during their championship years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning three NBA titles with them. 

He retired from playing in 1983 and later worked as a television commentator and analyst. Larry Kenon is a two-time NBA champion and one of the most decorated power forwards in league history.

Kenon played for the San Antonio Spurs from 1975-1980 and helped the team win two ABA Championships. Kenon also played for the Chicago Bulls and the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. 

Kenon was a two-time All-Star and was named the MVP of the 1978 ABA All-Star Game. Kenon retired in 1983 with career averages of 17.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.

Kenon was inducted into the Memphis Tigers' Hall of Fame in 2003. Larry Kenon is currently an assistant coach for the Spurs.

Josh Minott is a 20-year-old small forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. He was born in the US and attended high school in Florida. He played college basketball for Memphis and was selected by the Timberwolves in the second round of the 2020 draft.

He has played in 22 games for the Timberwolves this season, averaging 6.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He is a versatile player who can play both on the wing and at small forward. He is a hard worker who is looking to establish himself in the NBA and improve his skills.

He is a promising young player who is looking to make a name for himself in the league. He has a bright future ahead of him and is looking to make a significant impact in the NBA. Josh Minott was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. 

He started his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was traded to the Iowa Wolves in the offseason. He has been with the Iowa Wolves for two seasons now and has averaged 14.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. 

Josh Minott has been a consistent contributor for the Iowa Wolves and is expected to be a starter for them next season. He is a versatile player who can play both forward positions, making him a valuable asset for any team. Josh Minott is a hard worker who puts in a lot of effort on the court.

Jalen Duren is a 19-year-old center with a 6-foot-11-inch (2.11-meter) frame and a weight of 250 pounds (113 kilograms). Duren attended Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia and then attended Montverde Academy in Florida for his post-secondary education.

Duren was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft, and he has started to develop his skills in the NBA. Duren is known for his strong defense and his ability to score in the low post. Duren is expected to be a key player for the Detroit Pistons in the future.

Jalen Duren was a standout high school basketball player, leading his team to a state title in his senior year. 

He was a first-team all-conference selection and freshman of the year at AAC in his one season with the school. Duren signed with the Detroit Pistons in 2022, and has since played for them in both the NBA and the G-League.

He's had some success in the NBA, winning a championship with the Pistons in 2018. Duren has also played for the United States on the international stage, winning a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in 2019. 

He's a versatile player who can play both the guard and forward positions. Duren is currently in the final year of his contract with the Pistons, and will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024.

He'll be looking to continue his success in the NBA and increase his chances of making the 2020 Olympic team. Jalen Duren is a versatile and successful basketball player who is looking to keep improving and winning titles in the future.

Finch was a 6'2" shooting guard who played in the NBA from 1973 to 1975. Finch attended Melrose High School in Memphis and played college basketball for Memphis.

Finch was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the fourth round of the 1973 NBA draft. Finch played for the Lakers for two seasons before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Finch then played for the Denver Nuggets and the Seattle SuperSonics before retiring. Finch later became a coach and led the Memphis Grizzlies to the playoffs in 2006. Finch died of a heart attack at the age of 60.

Larry Finch was an assistant coach at UAB before becoming the head coach of the Memphis Tigers in 1986. Finch led the Tigers to a conference championship in 1997 before retiring from coaching. Finch is a consensus second-team All-American who played for the Memphis Tigers from 1971 to 1973.

Finch was named Metro Conference Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1989 and Great Midwest Coach of the Year in 1995. Larry Finch is a three-time first-team All-MVC player. 

Finch's Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament twice, in 1987 and 1995. Larry Finch is the father of current Memphis Tiger assistant coach Brandon Finch. Finch retired from coaching in 1997 after leading the Tigers to a conference championship.

Williams played one year of college basketball at the University of Texas at Austin, where he averaged 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. In March of 2017, Williams declared for the NBA draft.

Keith Lee was a versatile power forward and center in the NBA for over a decade. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1985 and played for them until 1995.

Antonio Anderson was a highly touted shooting guard from Lynn, Massachusetts who played collegiately at Memphis. He was drafted by the 2009 NBA draft but did not sign with any teams.

In 2013, he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies and played for them for three seasons. Anderson is best known for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he averaged 10.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 35.2 minutes per game.

Anderson is a career 36.1% three-point shooter, which is above average for a shooting guard. Anderson was traded to the Washington Wizards in February of 2016 and averaged 8.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game.

Anderson has also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and Minnesota Timberwolves in his career. Antonio Anderson was born in 1989 in the United States and played college basketball at Texas Tech. After graduation, Anderson was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the 2010 NBA draft.

Thomas has since signed with the Orlando Magic and is looking to continue his success in the NBA. Thomas was selected with the 13th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Thomas played for the Grand Rapids Drive and Sidigas Avellino in the D-League before being signed by the Medi Bayreuth in 2018.

Thomas has played for the BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque and Mineros de Zacatecas in the Liga MX. Thomas has been a part of the Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski since the start of the 2020 season. 

Thomas has won the Polish Supercup in 2022. Thomas is a two-time All-NBA D-League Third Team selection and a one-time NBA D-League All-Star.

Thomas has been a part of the United States men's national basketball team, but has yet to make an appearance at the FIBA World Cup. Thomas was named to the McDonald's All-American Team in 2011.

Vaughn was drafted by the Orlando Magic in the 1995 NBA draft and he played for them from 1995 to 2003. Vaughn was known for his scoring ability and his strong rebounding ability. 

Vaughn ended his career with the Orlando Magic, but he has also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the New Orleans Hornets.

Vaughn is currently an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies. David Vaughn III, who was born on December 20, 1974, played college basketball for the University of Utah. 

Vaughn was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft. Vaughn appeared in eight games for the Warriors that season, averaging 1.4 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Vaughn was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 1998, where he appeared in 74 games, averaging 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. Vaughn was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 1999, where he appeared in 83 games, averaging 10.8 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Andre Turner was born on March 13, 1964 in Memphis, Tennessee. Turner attended Mitchell High School where he starred as a point guard. Turner played college basketball for Memphis from 1982 to 1986.

Turner was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1986 NBA draft. Turner played 11 seasons in the NBA, most notably with the Lakers. Turner retired from playing in 2009, and began coaching in 2010.

Turner is currently the head coach of the Lane Dragons basketball team. Turner has led the Lane Dragons to two consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAA) championships. Turner was named the 2017-2018 Southern Conference Coach of the Year.

Andre Turner was a standout player in high school, averaging over 20 points per game. Turner played collegiately at La Crosse Catbirds, where he was a three-time All-American. 

Turner was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1987, but he never played in the NBA. Turner instead played in the Italian Serie A for several years.

Bedford was a center and played 50 games for the Phoenix Suns in his career. Bedford retired from basketball in 1993 and now works as a basketball coach. Bedford was a key player on the 1990 Phoenix Suns team that won the NBA championship.

Bedford played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Cavalry before joining the Grand Rapids Hoops. Bedford was a key player on all three teams and was named to the All-Star team twice. Bedford retired from the NBA in 1993.

Dajuan Wagner was a shooting guard who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2002 to 2007. Wagner was drafted sixth overall by the Cavaliers in the 2002 NBA draft.

Wagner was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2010-11 season and averaged 10.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 76 games.

Wagner signed with the Chicago Bulls in the 2011-12 season and averaged 6.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 36 games. Wagner was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2012-13 season and averaged 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 54 games.

Ronnie Robinson was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 1973 NBA draft. Robinson played for the Grizzlies for six seasons before he was traded to the Houston Rockets in 1988.

Robinson then spent one season with the Philadelphia 76ers before retiring from the NBA. Robinson is best known for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he won two Western Conference titles.

Robinson was also a member of the United States Men's National Basketball Team, playing in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Ronnie Robinson passed away in 2004 at the age of 52 after a long battle with cancer.

His coaching highlights include leading Memphis State to the NCAA Tournament in 1974 and leading Northwestern Louisiana to the NAIA Tournament in 1985. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 83.

Win Wilfong was a professional basketball player who played for the St. Louis Hawks in the NBA. He was born in 1933 in Puxico, Missouri and attended high school in that city.

He then attended college at Missouri, where he played for the basketball team from 1951 to 1953. Wilfong was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks in the 1957 NBA draft and played for them from 1957 to 1963.

He was also a member of the American national team, playing in the 1960 Olympics and the 1964 Olympics. Wilfong died in 1985 at the age of 52 after a long and successful career in professional basketball.

38. Baskerville Holmes

Baskerville Holmes was a 3rd round pick in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He played for the Bucks for two seasons before being traded to the New Jersey Nets.

Holmes died of a heart attack at the age of 33. After his death, the Memphis Grizzlies renamed the court at FedExForum "Baskerville Holmes Court." He is the father of Memphis Grizzlies player Quincy Holmes.

Holmes was known for his long shot shooting ability. He was the first player in NBA history to make over 500 three-point field goals in a season. He was inducted into the Memphis Grizzlies Hall of Fame in 2001.

Holmes was posthumously awarded the 2000-01 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. Baskerville Holmes was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 5, 1964. He died of a heart attack in 1997 at the age of 33.
