The South Carolina Stingrays are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in North Charleston, South Carolina. The Stingrays are a part of the ECHL, competing in the Eastern Conference’s South Division.

Founded in 1993, the Stingrays have been owned by a local group of businesses since 1995, and play their home games at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Carolina Ice Palace, located nearby, serves as a practice facility and backup arena, providing the team with a complete home venue. Led by a strong roster of coaches and players, the Stingrays have enjoyed a rich history of success on the ice, including four Kelly Cup championships.

With a passionate fan base and exciting atmosphere, the Stingrays are a must-see team for any hockey fan.

Philipp Grubauer is a goaltender for the Hershey Bears in the AHL. He was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 6th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

He has played in 157 career games, all with Washington, recording a record of 74-60-8 with 2 shutouts and a GAA of 2.42. 

In 2015 he won his first Calder Cup championship as part of Hershey's team that went undefeated through the playoffs.

Philipp Grubauer was born on November 25 1991 in Rosenheim, Germany, and raised in nearby Ludwigsburg with two siblings; one older brother and one younger sister. 

He attended university at Ruhr University Bochum where he majored in business administration before turning to hockey full time when he completed his degree Philipp Grubauer is a goaltender for the Washington Capitals.

He was drafted 112th overall in 2010 by Seattle Kraken, then traded to the Washington Capitals in 2011. Philipp has played with several NHL teams, most recently Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals. 

In his playing career so far, Philipp has won two Stanley Cups - one with the Vancouver Canucks (2011) and one with the Washington Capitals (2018). 

Philipp also represented Germany at the international level on numerous occasions, including at the World Championships (2015), Olympic Games (2016), and World Junior Championships (2013 & 2017).

As a goalkeeper, Philipp is known for his strong positional play and quick reflexes; he was voted as an All-Star for both the 2016–17 season and 2017–18 season by fans of NHL clubs online.

Deryk Engelland is a veteran defenseman with over 1000 NHL games played. He has experience playing for the Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Vegas Golden Knights.

Deryk Engelland has been very successful in his career offensively posting 38 goals and 208 points in his NHL career. 

For the 2018-19 season, Engelland joined the Vegas Golden Knights who were looking to improve their defense corps after finishing last in the league standings that year.

In 54 games with Vegas, Engelland posted seven assists along with 34 penalty minutes which showed he can play an effective physical game when needed but also contribute offensively at times too. 

After missing much of training camp due to injury, it's uncertain if Engelland will be able to continue his tenure with Vegas as they currently sit tenth in the Western Conference standings - however he remains a valuable member of their roster nonetheless.

Cail MacLean is a right winger who has played for Trenton Titans, Cleveland Lumberjacks and the Vancouver Canucks. 

MacLean was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft but never played for them as he was traded to Vancouver before playing a game with them.

He finally made his debut with Vancouver in 2002-03 and went on to play 257 games over six seasons with them before signing with Columbus Blue Jackets in 2006-07. 

After only one season there he signed again this time with Ottawa Senators where he finished his career after four more seasons at age 34.

In total Cail Maclean scored 97 goals and added 145 assists for 262 points during his professional hockey career which shows just how effective he was from both sides of the puck; being able to score goals as well as help create chances for others on offence or defence respectively. 

Currently, MacLean works as an executive vice president within Bell Media's sports division alongside former NHL players Ilya Kovalchuk, Jarome Iginla and Jamie Langenbrunner amongst others.

Michal Neuvirth was born on March 23, 1988 in Ústí nad Labem, Czechoslovakia. He is 6'1" tall and weighs 192 pounds. 

He is a goaltender who has played for the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Ottawa Senators.

He has won the Stanley Cup with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010 and the Ottawa Senators in 2015. Neuvirth was selected by the Islanders in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Islanders in 2007.

He was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2009. He won the Stanley Cup with the Flyers in 2010. He was traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2013. 

Michal Neuvirth is a goaltender for the Washington Capitals. He was drafted by them in the 34th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft.

Neuvirth has played for HC Sparta Praha, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Czech Republic. Neuvirth has had some good and some bad seasons in the NHL. 

He is known for his ability to make big saves in crucial moments. Neuvirth is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Washington Capitals.

He is also a two-time Vezina Trophy winner. Neuvirth is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2019-2020 season. He is likely to sign with another NHL team. 

Neuvirth is a hard worker who is constantly looking for ways to improve his game. He is a good role model for young goaltenders.

Nate Kiser is a defenseman who has played in the AHL. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2nd round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Kiser has played in 285 NHL games, scoring 10 goals and 48 assists.

In the AHL, Kiser has played in 470 games, scoring 44 goals and 121 assists. Kiser is a right shot Defenseman and has a physical presence. He is a veteran player and is looking to build on his success in the AHL.

Trent Campbell was born in Beauval, Saskatchewan, Canada on December 24, 1982. He played junior hockey for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL) before being drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Campbell played his first three NHL seasons with the Ducks, but was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2006. 

He spent four seasons with the Oilers, before being traded to the Detroit Red Wings in 2009. He played two seasons with the Red Wings before being traded to the Calgary Flames in 2011.

Campbell played one season with the Flames before being traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2013. He signed with the St. 

Louis Blues as a free agent in 2014 and played one season with them. Campbell signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2017 and played the whole season with them.

He announced his retirement from professional hockey on July 19, 2017.

Ed Courtenay is a veteran player with over a decade of experience in the NHL. He first came to prominence with the Kalamazoo Wings, where he scored 54 goals over two seasons.

Courtenay then spent a season with the Kansas City Blades, before moving on to San Jose and Chicago. In his time in the NHL, Courtenay has scored 218 goals, making him one of the league's top right wingers.

He retired from professional hockey in 2009, but has since returned to play for the Peoria Rivermen in the AHL. Courtenay is a right-handed shot who is known for his speed and shooting ability. He is a two-time All-Star, and has been nominated for the Hart and Art Ross Trophies.

In 2017, Courtenay was inducted into the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame. He is married with two children. Courtenay was a versatile player who played in both the NHL and AHL. 

He was drafted by the San Francisco Sharks in the 8th round of the 1988 NHL Draft. He played with the Sharks and the Florida Panthers before signing with the Vancouver Canucks in 1998.

He played with the Canucks and the Philadelphia Flyers before retiring in 2009. Courtenay was a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Canucks in 1999 and 2000. 

After his retirement, Courtenay became a commentator for the Canucks and for the AHL's Manitoba Moose. He is currently an analyst for the NHL Network. Courtenay was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

Courtenay's son, Ed Jr., was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round of the 2011 NHL Draft.

9. Josh Wilkins

Josh Wilkins is a center for the Providence College Friars. He was a two-time All-American for the North Carolina Tar Heels, and was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Wilkins has a unique skill set, being able to score in a variety of ways. He is a hard worker, and is constantly developing his game. Wilkins has helped Providence make a run in the NCAA Tournament, and is looking to do the same in the NBA.

He is a leader on and off the court, and is always looking to help his team win. Josh Wilkins is a valuable member of any team, and is a key player for the Providence College Friars.

Josh Wilkins is a right-handed shooter who has played for the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, Milwaukee Admirals, Tucson Roadrunners, and Västerviks IK. 

He has also played in the NHL for the Milwaukee Admirals and the Nashville Predators. Josh Wilkins was undrafted in the NHL Draft, but was signed by the Predators as an undrafted free agent in 2016.

He has played in 54 games in the NHL, scoring 2 goals and 5 assists. Josh Wilkins is a skilled shooter who can score goals in a variety of ways. 

He is a good passer and has a good overall game. Josh Wilkins is in the final year of his contract with the Predators and is eligible for the NHL Expansion Draft. He may be traded before the draft or released.

In the playoffs, he has played for the Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes. He has won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013. He is a two time NHL All-Star. He was a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2013.

He has also won the Gold Medal with the United States at the World Championships in 2013. Justin Florek is married to Ashley and they have two children. Florek played for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL from 2010-2012.

He was then signed by the Boston Bruins, playing for their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. Florek made his NHL debut with the Bruins in the 2013-2014 season. In the 2014-2015 season, Florek was recalled by the Bruins and played in 27 games.

In the 2015-2016 season, Florek was dealt to the IHL's Iserlohn Roosters. He then signed with EHC Black Wings Linz in the Austrian Hockey League for the 2016-2017 season. Florek was then signed by the NHL's Nashville Predators in the 2017-2018 season.

In the 2018-2019 season, Florek was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. Florek has played in 142 NHL games, scoring 10 goals and 19 assists.

Andrew Rowe was born on January 22, 1988, in Spring Lake, Michigan. Rowe played for the Michigan State Spartans from 2007-2009 before transferring to the University of North Dakota.

He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Rowe played for the Islanders until he was traded to the Dallas Stars in 2015. Rowe played for the Stars until he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 2018.

Rowe has played in 681 NHL games, scoring 91 goals and adding 137 assists. Rowe is a left winger, and is known for his speed and shooting ability. Rowe is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, with the New York Islanders in 2013 and the Dallas Stars in 2014.

Rowe is married and has two children. Andrew Rowe is a professional ice hockey player who most recently played for the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the Swiss National League B. Rowe was undrafted but has had a successful career in the Swiss league. 

Rowe was born in Toronto, Ontario, in Canada and played his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting.

Rowe made his professional debut in the Swiss League with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in 2010. He has since played for the Norfolk Admirals, Hartford Wolf Pack, Charlotte Checkers, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Mora IK.

Rowe is a two-time Swiss League champion with the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in 2013 and 2014. Rowe was also a member of the Canada men's national ice hockey team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. 

Rowe was named to the Canada men's national ice hockey team for the 2017 IIHF World Championship. Rowe is currently a free agent and is looking to continue his hockey career in North America.

Hunter Shepard is a professional American football player who plays as a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). Shepard was drafted by the Vikings in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Shepard has been named to the All-Pro team twice and has been named to the Pro Bowl twice. In 2018, Shepard was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.

Shepard is married to former University of Minnesota basketball player Adrienne Shepherd. The couple has one child. Shepard is a native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. 

Shepard attended school at the University of Minnesota, where he played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team from 2013 to 2016. He was drafted by the Vikings in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Jakaitis started his professional career in the ECHL, playing for the Reading Royals in 2006-07. He then spent two seasons with the Utah Grizzlies, before being traded to the Ontario Reign in 2010.

Jakaitis was named the ECHL's Goalie of the Year in 2011-12, and helped the Reign to the league championship that season. He was traded to the Worcester Sharks prior to the 2013-14 season, and finished the season with a 36-15-5 record, 2.16 GAA and .916 SV%.

Jakaitis signed with the Calgary Flames as a free agent in July 2014, and made his NHL debut in October 2014. He was part of the Flames' 2014 Stanley Cup championship team. 

Jakaitis was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in March 2017, and won his first NHL championship with the Lightning in 2018.

Jakaitis signed with the Minnesota Wild as a free agent in July 2018. Jakaitis is currently with the Wild, and is their backup goaltender.

Chris Hynnes is a defender who played for Colorado College. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 9th round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Hynnes played for the Thunder Bay Senators of the American Hockey League from 1998-2000.

He played for the Vancouver Canucks from 2001-2003. He played for the St. Louis Blues from 2003-2005. Hynnes played for the Calgary Flames from 2005-2010. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2010-2013. He retired from professional hockey in 2013.

Hynnes is now a coach with the Thunder Bay Senators. Chris Hynnes was drafted in the 1991 NHL Supplemental Draft by the Minnesota Moose. Hynnes played for the Prince Edward Island Senators from 1989 to 2001. Hynnes was a member of the Panthers for one season in 2003.

Hynnes was a part of the Islanders for three seasons from 2006 to 2009. Hynnes was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in February of 2010. 

Hynnes retired after playing with the Rochester Americans in the 2011-2012 season. Hynnes is currently an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers.

Fitzsimmons was born on June 3, 1971 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is a goaltender, and played for the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers. Fitzsimmons played in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers, but is most well-known for his time with the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers.

Fitzsimmons has played in 931 NHL games, and has a win-loss record of 479-469-71. Fitzsimmons is a six-time all-star, and was named to the AHL's Second All-Star Team in 2009. 

Fitzsimmons is married, and has two children. Fitzsimmons is an ambassador for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Fitzsimmons is a member of the Canadian national team, and has played in several international tournaments. Fitzsimmons is a two-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to the AHL's MVP. 

Fitzsimmons was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1991 NHL Draft. He played for the Canucks from 1992 to 1998.

Fitzsimmons was a member of the Canucks' Stanley Cup-winning team in 1994. He also played for the Canucks' 1995 and 1996 Stanley Cup-winning teams. 

Fitzsimmons was a member of the United States' World Championship-winning team in 1996. Fitzsimmons played for the Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch, and Columbus Chill from 1998 to 2002.

He retired from professional hockey in 2002. Fitzsimmons is currently a hockey coach. Fitzsimmons was inducted into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2016.

Parker Milner is a goaltender who has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins since the 2007-08 season. Milner was drafted by the Penguins in the third round, 79th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Milner has played in 264 career NHL games, all with the Penguins. Milner has a career record of 191-161-37 with a 2.49 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Milner was named to the NHL All-Star Team in the 2013-14 season.

Milner was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer of 2016. Milner returned to the Penguins in the summer of 2017. Milner is signed through the 2021-22 season. Milner is married and has two young children.

Kirk Daubenspeck is a goaltender who has played in the NHL for the Indianapolis Ice, Jacksonville Lizard Kings, and Chesapeake Icebreakers. Daubenspeck was born on July 21, 1974 in Madison, Wisconsin.

He is 6'0" tall and 190 pounds. Daubenspeck is left-handed and played for the Indianapolis Ice, Jacksonville Lizard Kings, and Chesapeake Icebreakers. Daubenspeck has a goals against average of 2.74 and a save percentage of .922.

Spencer Carbery was born on November 9, 1981 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Carbery played junior hockey for the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

He made his professional debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2002–03 season. Carbery was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in the summer of 2007.

He was traded to the New York Islanders in the summer of 2011. Carbery signed with the Calgary Flames in the summer of 2014. Carbery announced his retirement from hockey on October 5, 2016.

Spencer Carbery is a left wing who played in the NHL for the Carolina Hurricanes and Phoenix Coyotes. He is best known for his time with the Hurricanes, where he was a part of the 2006 Stanley Cup championship team.

After playing two seasons in Phoenix, he was traded to the New York Islanders in the summer of 2011. He signed with the Calgary Flames in the summer of 2014 and announced his retirement from hockey on October 5, 2016.

Maxime Lacroix is a left wing who played for Saint-Georges Cool FM 103.5. Lacroix is 6'0" tall and weighs 180 pounds. Lacroix was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Lacroix had a breakout season in 2011-12, scoring 30 goals and 71 points in 73 games. Lacroix was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in the summer of 2013. Lacroix was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in the summer of 2015.

Lacroix has played in 284 NHL games, scoring 73 goals and 177 points. Lacroix is a left wing who shoots left. Lacroix is currently a left wing with the Edmonton Oilers. Maxime Lacroix was born on December 22nd, 1991 in Rouen, France.

Lacroix was drafted by the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Lacroix has spent the majority of his career playing in the NHL with the Washington Capitals. Lacroix has represented France at the World Championships, the Olympics, and the World Junior Championships.

Lacroix has won two Stanley Cups with the Washington Capitals, in 2018 and 2019. Lacroix is currently playing with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League. 

Lacroix is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, and is one of the most decorated players in Capitals history. Maxime Lacroix is an excellent hockey player, and is sure to have a long and successful career in the NHL.

21. Mark Bavis

Mark Bavis was a 31-year-old American victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He was killed when the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed following the bombings of the Twin Towers.

Mark was originally from Roslindale, Massachusetts, and had been working in the financial sector before the attacks. 

He was survived by his wife and two young children. Mark's death has been cited as one of the reasons for the increased security measures implemented at the World Trade Center following the attacks.

Mark was posthumously awarded the prestigious Edward M. Kennedy Award for his work in advocating for improved security at the World Trade Center. 

His memory is commemorated annually on September 11th with a ceremony at the South Tower site. Mark's death remains a deeply personal tragedy for his family and friends.

Final Words

The South Carolina Stingrays are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in North Charleston, South Carolina. They play in the ECHL.

The Stingrays have had a number of players go on to play in the National Hockey League, including Jamie Langenbrunner, Kris Versteeg, and Ben Bishop.
