Vanderbilt University Baseball is a premier collegiate baseball program located in Nashville, Tennessee. Established in 1885, the team has a long and storied history of excellence, boasting countless national championships and a long list of alumni that have gone on to play in the professional leagues.

From the early days of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) to the modern era of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Vanderbilt Baseball has consistently been one of the top programs in the nation. David Price is a former MLB pitcher who spent his entire career with the Boston Red Sox. He won 157 games in his career and had an ERA of 3.32, striking out 2,076 batters in the process.

David Price was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the end of the 2019 season and is looking to help them win another World Series title. 

David Price was born on August 26th, 1985 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and attended Clemson University before being drafted by Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 as a first-round draft pick David Price is a three-time All-Star and two-time AL Cy Young Award winner.

He has also led the MLB in strikeouts twice and holds the record for most complete games in an MLB career with 66. In 2018, David Price was awarded the Babe Ruth Award which is given to the best Major League Baseball player every year. 

David Price will be playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers next season after spending his first six seasons with Boston Red Sox.

2. Tony Kemp

Kemp was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 4th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Middle Tennessee State. Kemp made his MLB debut with the Astros in 2016, and played for them until 2018 when he was traded to the Oakland A's.

Kemp is a versatile second baseman and outfielder who has shown flashes of brilliance at both positions. In 2018, Kemp had a breakout season with the Athletics where he hit .292/.368/.549 with 18 home runs and 68 RBIs in 154 games played (all but one as an Athletic).

His veteran presence on a young Oakland squad will be invaluable as they look to make some noise this season in what should be another competitive American League West division race. Kemp is a player who has excelled in the MLB for over a decade. 

He was drafted by both the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs, but played most of his career with the Oakland Athletics.

Kemp's offensive skills have made him one of the best hitters in baseball, with an average batting average of .244 and 30 home runs to his name so far in his career. Kemp also contributes significantly on the bases, scoring 157 runs batted in throughout his career thus far. 

His achievements include two World Series championships - as part of the Houston Astros in 2017, and subsequently with the Chicago Cubs in 2019 - making him one of only two players to win multiple titles at each level (alongside Roger Maris).

Despite being 33 years old now, Kemp still has plenty left to offer on the field; he will be looking to take another title this season with Oakland.

Tyler Beede is a pitcher for the Yomiuri Giants in Japan's Nippon Baseball League. 

He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2012 MLB Draft and has since pitched for both teams.

Beede attended Worcester State University where he played baseball and earned All-American honors as a senior in 2014.

 Between 2013 and 2016, Beede made 134 appearances (123 starts) with Triple-A Fresno, posting a record of 47-39 with 4.22 ERA over that time span.

In 2016, Beede made his Major League debut with San Francisco and went 2-0 with 0 saves in 36 innings pitched before being traded to the New York Mets midway through 2017 season along with Travis d'Arnaud for Amed Rosario, Noah Syndergaard and Jay Bruce.

4. JJ Bleday

JJ Bleday

JJ Bleday is a left-handed outfielder who was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He played college baseball at Vanderbilt and hit .352 with 54 home runs and 162 RBIs in his three seasons there.

Bleday has been praised for his hitting ability, speed, defense, and baserunning potential. JJ Bleday is a young and talented pitcher who has had an up-and-down career to date. 

JJ was drafted by the Marlins in the 4th round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he made his debut with them in 2022.

He's struggled at times with control issues but has shown flashes of brilliance, most notably when he pitched a no hitter for Miami back in September of that year. JJ will hope to build on this performance and continue to develop as a pitcher in order to cement himself as one of baseball's top talents down the line.

It'll be interesting to see what direction JJ takes over the next few years - there are some real potentialities here.

5. Walker Buehler

Walker Buehler was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2017 and has been a mainstay on their pitching staff ever since.

Walker Buehler throws right-handed and bats left-handed. In 2019, he had an outstanding season for the Dodgers, helping them to win their first NL West championship in 23 years.

 Walker Buehler has been one of the most consistent pitchers in Major League Baseball over the past few seasons.

He's led his team to 46 wins and 16 losses with a 3.02 ERA, while striking out 690 batters. In addition to pitching effectively, Buehler is also known for his clutch play when it matters most.

He was part of the Dodgers' 2020 World Series championship team and pitched in a combined no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 4th this year.

While he may not be as well-known as some other players, Walker Buehler should continue to make an impact on baseball fans for many years to come.

6. Kumar Rocker

Kumar Rocker is a young pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization. He was drafted out of high school by the team in 2016 and has been progressing well through their system.

Kumar Rocker throws a fastball, slider, changeup and curveball which have all shown potential to be very good pitches for him. His fastball generally tops out around 95 mph but he can also dial it down depending on the situation.

Kumar Rocker's delivery is fairly clean with good balance so far in his career, although there are areas that he can improve upon moving forward. That said, he shows solid control overall and should only get better as time goes on.

Kumar Rocker still has some room to grow physically before reaching his full potential as a pitcher, but he definitely has what it takes to make an impact at the major league level in the future if everything continues to go according to plan.

7. Dominic Keegan

Dominic Keegan is a 22-year old catcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. Dominic was drafted in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Rays out of Northeastern University.

He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League Rays in 2018 and hit .291/.374/.471 with 4 homeruns and 36 RBIs in 57 games. In 2019, he played at Advanced-A Charlotte where he hit .278/.339/.464 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs in 108 games while also leading all minor leaguers in defensive runs saved (53).

Dominic is currently playing for Double-A Montgomery where he's hitting .297/.361/.498 with 7 home runs and 34 RBIs through 44 games this season Dominic Keegan is a pitcher for the Methuen Mountaineers. 

Dominic was drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. He had Tommy John Surgery in March 2017 and missed all of 2018 while rehabbing, but came back strong to have a great 2019 season with Methuen.

Dominic has a fastball that can reach 98 mph as well as an impressive slider and changeup, which he uses to get strikeouts and ground balls alike. 

In 10 innings pitched this season, Keegan has allowed just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts and no walks, earning him First Team All-New England honors from The Boston Globe.

Swanson was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Braves in 2016 and has since played for them as well as other teams, including Chicago Cubs.

Swanson is a right-handed shortstop who bats and throws right-handed. In 2018, he won both an NL Silver Slugger Award and a Gold Glove Award, making him one of only two players ever to win both awards in their rookie season (the other being Eric Gagne).

Swanson announced his retirement from professional baseball on January 24th 2019 after appearing in just 41 games over two seasons due to injury A 22-year-old first baseman for the Atlanta Braves, Dansby Swanson is one of the brightest hitters in all of baseball.

Nicknamed "Dizzy," Swanson has already won two world championships and an All Star Game award during his short career. He was drafted by the Braves with the third overall pick in the 2016 draft and quickly showed that he belonged on a championship team. 

With power to both left field and right field, Swanson gives any team serious competition at either position.

His speed on the bases makes him very difficult to catch, even for experienced catchers like Gary Sanchez or Alex Avila. Fans can look forward to watching him continue his success into the future as one of baseball's best players.

Kyle Wright was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 3rd round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Braves in 2018 and finished the season with a record of 7-10, 4.92 ERA in 28 appearances (25 starts).

Kyle Wright spent most of his time as a starter for Gwinnett Stripers prior to making his MLB debut, accumulating 140 total innings pitched between both teams combined. As a reliever, he has appeared in 36 games (all relief appearances) over 2 seasons with Atlanta and Gwinnett and owns an ERA of 1.64 with 38 strikeouts across 43 innings pitched.

Kyle Wright is a 23-year old pitcher with the Atlanta Braves. Kyle Wright has had a successful career thus far, winning 13 games and posting an ERA of 4.13 over 233 strikeouts.

in just 238 innings pitched. Kyle Wright was one win away from being named MLB's wins leader for 2018 when he led his team to their first ever World Series victory in 2021.

Outside of baseball, Kyle Wright is also a student at Wake Forest University where he is majoring in business administration with a focus on finance and accounting. 

As someone who works hard both on and off the field, it will be interesting to see what else Kyle Wright can achieve during his time playing professional baseball.

10. Penn Murfee

Penn Murfee is a right-handed pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. He was drafted by the Mariners in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft. In 2015, Murfee made his MLB debut, and in 2016, he had a career-high in innings pitched (123).

In 2017, Murfee had a career-low in innings pitched (81). Murfee is a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He and his wife, Paige, have a daughter, Harper. Murfee is signed through 2020 with a club option for 2021. Murfee's fastball reaches the mid-90s.

He has been nicknamed "The Penn Machine". Penn Murfee was born on April 29, 2022 in Seattle, WA. Penn Murfee made his MLB debut for the Seattle Mariners on April 29, 2022. Penn Murfee is a starting pitcher for the Mariners. Penn Murfee has a win-loss record of 4-0 and an earned run average of 2.99.

Reynolds' batting average and home runs are both above average for a player on the Pirates. Reynolds was a part of the team that won the 2019 World Series. Reynolds was born in the United States, but he has played for the Canadian national team.

He made his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 2009. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants in January 2019. Yastrzemski has played for the Red Sox, Giants, and Baltimore Orioles in his career.

 He has won three World Series titles with the Red Sox (2004, 2007, and 2013), and two with the Giants (2012 and 2019). Yastrzemski is a three-time Gold Glove winner, and he was named the AL MVP in 2012. He is currently a free agent. Mike Yastrzemski was a Hall of Fame center fielder.

Who spent his entire 19-year career with the Boston Red Sox. Yastrzemski was one of the most consistent hitters in baseball, batting over .300 for 13 consecutive seasons.

He is also seventh in all-time home runs with 521, and his 73 HRs in 1988 are still a Red Sox record. Yastrzemski was a four-time All-Star and won three Silver Slugger Awards. He is also a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame. 

Yastrzemski was a key member of the "Boys of Summer" team that won the 1975 and 1986 World Series. He currently serves as a special assistant to the team's president.

In 2021, Snider will be with the Omaha Storm Chasers. He is a right-handed pitcher and bats and throws right. He made his debut with the Kansas City Royals in 2016 and has appeared in 61 games, recording a record of 4-15 with a 4.64 ERA.

Snider has had some success in the minor leagues, where he has a record of 25-10 with a 2.21 ERA. He has a strong arm and good control, which has led to him posting good numbers in the minors. He will be a free agent at the end of 2021 and is a possible candidate to be traded.

Sheffield was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Sheffield made his professional debut with the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2017.

Sheffield spent the 2018 season with the Albuquerque Isotopes. Sheffield was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team. Sheffield was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Sheffield made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays on July 7, 2018. Sheffield was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 29, 2018. Sheffield was traded to the Cleveland Indians on August 30, 2018. Sheffield was traded to the Atlanta Braves on September 1, 2018.

Sheffield made his MLB debut for the Colorado Rockies in 2021. Sheffield is a starting pitcher and has a win-loss record of 0-0 so far in his career. Sheffield has an earned run average of 3.16 and has struck out 21 batters in 21 innings of play. 

Sheffield has been with a number of teams in his young career, including the Colorado Rockies (2021-2022) and the Seattle Mariners (2018-2021).

Scotti Madison was a third baseman who played in the majors from 1986 to 1989 for the Nashville Sounds. Madison was a switch hitter and threw right-handed.

Madison was a consistent player, batting .269 with 97 RBIs in 598 career at-bats. Madison also had a strong arm, throwing out 53% of attempted base stealers in his career.

Madison was a part of the Sounds team that won the AL West in 1986. After his playing career ended, Madison became a minor league manager. Madison has since retired from baseball and resides in Pensacola, Florida.

Madison is a member of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Madison is currently the hitting coach for the Daytona Cubs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. Madison had a brief MLB career with the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds, batting .163 with one home run and 11 RBIs.

Madison played in the minors for the Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds, and was a top prospect in both leagues. Madison was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 1985 MLB draft, and made his MLB debut in 1985. Madison spent two seasons with the Detroit Tigers, batting .160 in 185 games.

In 1987, Madison was traded to the Kansas City Royals, and spent two seasons with the team, batting .259 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs. 

Madison was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1988, and spent one season with the team, batting .264 with one home run and 10 RBIs. Madison retired from baseball in 1989. He currently works as a scout for the Detroit Tigers.

Madison was an excellent hitter, with a batting average of over .300 in both the minors and MLB. Madison is a former All-Star and Gold Glove winner, and is one of the best hitters in Royals and Reds history.

19. Pedro Álvarez

Pedro Álvarez is a third baseman who has played in the Majors for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles. Pirates in the 8th round of the 2006 MLB Draft.

He made his MLB debut with the Pirates in 2010. He was traded to the Orioles in 2018. Majors, recording a .236 batting average with 162 home runs and 472 RBI. 6.

Álvarez has also spent time at first base, second base, and third base. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and played for the Dominican Republic national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Zeid made his major league debut with the Rockies in 2009. Zeid spent time with the Astros in 2013 and 2014, before returning to the Rockies in 2015. Zeid was traded to the Astros in December of 2018.

Zeid is a right-handed pitcher who throws in the range of 94-97 MPH. Zeid has a 3.68 ERA in the majors, with 318 strikeouts and 100 walks in 367 innings. Zeid is a fan favorite in both Colorado and Houston.

Austin was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Austin is currently in his first professional season. Austin has pitched in 9 games this season, posting an 0-1 record with a 3.18 ERA.

Austin's fastball ranges from 88-92 mph, and he also throws a slider, curveball and changeup. Austin is a right-handed pitcher, and he has been compared to Roy Halladay and R.A. Dickey.

 Austin is a hard-working player who is constantly working on his mechanics. Austin is a player who is looking to improve his game and move up the ladder in baseball. Austin Martin is a promising pitcher with a lot of potential, and he is definitely someone to watch in the future.

49. Jack Leiter

Leiter was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. Leiter is a right-handed pitcher who was born in Fort Worth, Texas. Leiter attended Dallas Baptist University and played for their baseball team as a freshman in 2018.

Leiter was selected to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team in 2018. Leiter was selected to the All-ACC Second Team in 2018. Leiter was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2018. Leiter was named to the 2018 Preseason All-American Third Team by Baseball America.

Leiter was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2018. Leiter is expected to start the 2019 season with the Texas Rangers' Class A affiliate, the Down East Wood Ducks. Jack Leiter is a pitcher for the Plantation Blue Jays. He is a right-handed pitcher who throws in the low-90s.

He is a 2014 first-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays. He made his professional debut with the Hudson Valley Renegades in the New York-Penn League in 2014.

Bradfield was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2017. He was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team in 2018. Bradfield has batted .304 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI in 113 games played as a sophomore at Vanderbilt.

Bradfield is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. Bradfield is a left-handed hitter. He is a member of the Vanderbilt baseball team. Bradfield is a junior. Enrique Bradfield Jr. is a left-handed pitcher in the Miami Marlins organization.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2009 amateur draft. He has a 2.98 ERA in the minor leagues. He was the Marlins Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. He made his major league debut in 2014. He has a 2.78 ERA in 79 innings pitched in the majors.

He was traded to the Dodgers in 2017. He has a 3.65 ERA in 93 innings pitched in the Dodgers system. He is arbitration-eligible for the first time in 2019.

Final Words

The Vanderbilt University Baseball program has produced some of the best players in the history of the sport. Some of the best players to ever play the game include Jimmie Foxx, Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, and Cal Ripken Jr.
