The Pittsburgh Pirates are a Major League Baseball team located in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1887 as part of the National League, they were originally known as the Allegheny Base Ball Club and later changed their name to what has become one of baseball’s most iconic franchises.

The team had its greatest success during two World Series winning seasons at the turn of the 20th century but have since then endured long periods without a championship title.

Barry Bonds was born in 1964 and played his entire MLB career with the San Francisco Giants. He is one of the most successful hitters in baseball history, amassing over 762 home runs and 2,935 hits.

In 2006 he became only the fourth player to break the 100-home run barrier for a third time, doing so in just seven seasons. Bonds has also been involved in several controversial incidents during his career - including being banned from baseball for life after testing positive for steroids .

However, despite these controversies and accusations against him, Barry Bonds remains one of the greatest players ever to take to a diamond." 

Barry Bonds is one of the most accomplished athletes in history, having won numerous awards and accolades including 14 All-Star games, 7 MVPs, 8 Gold Gloves and 12 Silver Sluggers.

He holds many MLB records including the most home runs (769), RBIs (2,286) and walks (3,465). In 2007 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame after being voted by fans as their first ballot selection.

Honus Wagner is one of the most decorated players in baseball history, with three MVP awards and eleven batting titles to his name. He was a shortstop for most of his career, but he also played second base and third base from time to time.

Wagner led the National League in hits nine times, batting average six times, home runs twice, RBIs once, stolen bases four times and total bases sixteen times during his career. His success at the plate earned him the nickname "The Flying Dutchman" due to his ability to hit balls out of any ballpark he played in.

Wagner retired after playing only two seasons with Pittsburgh following World War I because of an arm injury sustained while serving in France during that conflict Wagner was a dominant hitter for many years, earning eight batting titles and five stolen base crowns. 

Wagner also managed and coached in the majors for over 30 years, helping his teams to numerous success including three World Series championships.

He is one of baseball's most iconic players and figures largely responsible for making Pittsburgh a major league city.

Dick Groat was a shortstop who played in the Majors for over 20 years. He is best known for his successful career with the Pirates and Giants, where he won three World Series championships.

Dick Groat hit .286 with 2138 hits and 39 home runs in his MLB career. His 707 RBIs were also impressive. Dick Groat was an excellent fielder, especially at shortstop, which helped him rack up many awards and accolades throughout his playing days.

Dick Groat was one of the greatest basketball players in history. He is most famous for his role as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1950s and 1960s, but he also had a successful career with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants. Dick Groat was born on December 1, 1929 in Albany, New York.

He played college ball at Duke University before being drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1949. After two seasons with Boston, Groat was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates where he would play most of his career. 

During his 15-year NBA career, Dick Groat averaged 18 points per game and won three consecutive league MVP Awards (1957–1959).

His playing style was characterized by rugged defense and strong rebounding ability which helped him lead both teams he played for to championships – including an MVP award as captain of the 1964 San Francisco Giants team.

That defeated John Havlicek’s Baltimore Bullets in four games to win their first ever World Series title. Dick Groat passed away on May 14th, 2002 at the age of 75 after battling Alzheimer's disease for many years following his retirement from professional basketball.

Roberto Clemente was a legend in both the MLB and Puerto Rico, and is widely considered one of the best right fielders to ever play the game. Clemente was born in 1934 in Barrio San Antón in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

He played his first MLB game in 1955 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and went on to play 18 seasons with the team. Clemente was a very versatile player, and was able to play both right field and first base in the MLB. He is also one of only four players in MLB history to win three MVP Awards.

Clemente's career was cut short by an injury in 1972, and he died just a few months later at the age of 38. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1974. Clemente is still fondly remembered by both fans and players in the MLB, and his legacy will continue to be remembered for many years to come.

Willie Stargell was a great left fielder and first baseman who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for many years. He was a key part of their teams and was a very successful player.

He was born on March 6, 1940 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. He played for the Pirates until 1982, when he retired. He was a very good hitter and had a batting average of .282. He also had a lot of hits, with 2,232 in his career.

He was a very good fielder and was voted to the All-Star team many times. He died on April 9, 2001, at the age of 61. Willie Stargell was a prolific home run hitter during his career, amassing 475 homers during his 17-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was also a three-time All-Star, winning the MVP award in 1979. Stargell was a key member of the Pirates' two championships, winning in 1971 and 1979. He was also MVP of both NLCSs. After retiring from baseball, Stargell worked as a broadcaster for the Pirates.

10. Ralph Kiner

He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. Kiner is best remembered for his spectacular home runs and RBIs, which helped him win three batting titles and three MVP Awards.

Kiner retired from baseball in 1955 and later became a popular television sports commentator. He died at the age of 91 in 2014. Ralph Kiner was a Hall of Fame outfielder who played his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Kiner was a five-time all-star and a seven-time NL home run leader, ranking fourth all time. Kiner was also a valuable RBI hitter, ranking third in the NL in 1949. Kiner was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975.

Waner played for the Yankees from 1945 to 1965. He had his best season in 1952, when he had a batting average of .364 and hit 25 home runs. Waner died in 1965 at the age of 62. Waner was a two-time NL batting champion and one-time NL RBI leader, as well as a four-time All-Star.

Waner spent his entire 19-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he was a key part of their championship teams in 1927 and 1933. Waner was inducted into the Pirates Hall of Fame in 1970.

Pie Traynor played his last game with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1937. Pie Traynor was a member of the United States Army during World War II. Pie Traynor is survived by his wife and two children.

Pie Traynor was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1893. Traynor played for the Pirates from 1920 to 1935 and 1937 to 1939. He was a two-time All-Star and won the World Series with the team in 1925. Traynor served as the Pirates' manager from 1934 to 1939.

He led the team to a record of 710 wins and 347 losses. Traynor was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1948. He died on May 7, 1965.

Mazeroski was born in the coal mining town of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, in 1927. He played his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and is the only player in history to hit over.

300 in every season. Mazeroski was a six-time All-Star and won two Gold Glove Awards. Mazeroski was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.

14. Jason Kendall

Kendall made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1996 and played for the team until 2000. Kendall then signed with the Kansas City Royals and played for the team until 2010.

Law was a controversial figure in baseball, as he was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs. Law passed away in 1967 at the age of just 42, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest pitchers in history.
