John Bateman

John Bateman is a second-row loose forward who has played for Bradford Bulls in the English Super League. He was born on 30 September 1993 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England.

At 6 ft 0in (1.83 m) and 15 stone 2 lb (96 kg), he is tall and strong for a second rower. John started playing rugby union at school but switched to rugby league when he joined his local team, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, aged 16 years old.

In 2013 he signed with Bradford Bulls after impressing during trials and made his debut in 2014 as a substitute against Widnes Vikings; scoring two tries on his debut game later that season against Hull Kingston Rovers Tigers. 

In 2016 John was named player of the year by both the Rugby League Writers' Association[3] and BBC Sport[4], becoming only the third player ever to win both awards - following Jason Robinson (1992/93) and Billy Slater (2007).

He also represented Great Britain at under 21 levels before making his full international début against New Zealand Maori in May 2017.

2. Gary Connolly

Gary Connolly is a former professional rugby league footballer who played for St Helens and Wigan. He played at fullback and centre for both clubs. Connolly is one of the most decorated English rugby league players of all time, with 656 appearances and 136 tries.

He helped St Helens to win the 1993 Rugby League World Cup and Wigan to win the 1998 Super League championship. He retired in 2002. Connolly has since been involved in coaching and commentary. In 2013, he was appointed head coach of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the English Super League.

He has also been a selector for the England national rugby league team. Connolly was born in St Helens, Lancashire, England and raised in nearby Widnes. 

Gary Connolly is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s for several teams in the UK. Gary Connolly represented Great Britain at international level, playing for the country in three World Cups.

Gary Connolly is most notable for his time with the Canterbury Bulldogs, where he helped the team to win the 1993 NRL Premiership. After retiring from playing, Gary Connolly has worked as a rugby league commentator and television presenter. 

In 2009, Gary Connolly was voted the 17th greatest rugby league player of all time by the Rugby League World Club Champion. Gary Connolly was born on October 30, 1972, in Liverpool, England.

3. Thomas Leuluai

Thomas Leuluai

Thomas Leuluai was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1985. He started playing rugby league at the age of eight and quickly became a standout player. He made his first-grade debut with the Auckland Warriors in 2002 and went on to play for the club for six seasons.

Leuluai was signed by the Newcastle Knights in 2009 and played for the club for four seasons. He joined the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2013 and has since played for the club in the NRL and the NSW Cup. 

Leuluai was a member of the New Zealand national rugby league team and played in the 2010 World Cup and the 2013 Four Nations.

He has also played for the Kiwis in the ANZAC Test and the 2014 World Cup. Leuluai has been a regular member of the Canterbury-

Bankstown Bulldogs side since 2013 and is currently their captain. He is a scrum-half and hooker and is known for his accurate passing and strong running game.

4. Iafeta Paleaaesina

Iafeta Paleaaesina

Iafeta Paleaaesina is a New Zealand prop. She has played for the Auckland Blues and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the Women's National Rugby League.

She was a member of the New Zealand Women's Sevens team that won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She has also played for the New Zealand national side.

In 2009, she was named the New Zealand Women's Sportsperson of the Year. In 2010, she was named the New Zealand Women's Player of the Year. In 2013, she was named the Women's Rugby League World Cup's player of the tournament.

She was named in the New Zealand Women's Team of the Century in 2018. She is the first woman to be named the Women's Rugby League World Cup's player of the tournament. Iafeta Paleaaesina was born in 1991 and is currently playing for Doncaster in the English rugby league.

Paleaaesina was a member of the New Zealand Warriors' academy, but left to join Wigan Warriors in 2006. He made his first-grade debut for the Warriors in 2007, and went on to play 145 games for the club, scoring 84 tries. He joined Salford City Reds in 2011 and helped them win the League 1 title in 2013.

Paleaaesina joined Hull FC in 2014 and played 49 games for the club, scoring one try. He joined Doncaster in 2015 on a season-long loan, and helped them win the League 1 title. 

Paleaaesina returned to Hull FC in 2016, but left the club at the end of the season to join Doncaster permanently. He has made 24 appearances for the Steelmen in 2017. Paleaaesina is a Tongan international, and has played 15 times for his country.

Liam Farrell is a second row forward who currently plays for Wigan Warriors in the Super League. Farrell started his career at Wigan before signing for Leeds in 2013.

He played for Leeds for two seasons before signing for Wigan in 2015. Farrell has made over 100 appearances for Wigan and has scored 12 tries. Farrell has played for England at under-19, under-21, and senior level.

Andy Farrell was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England on 30 May 1975. Farrell started playing rugby league at an early age and joined Orrell St. James. After impressing during his time at Orrell St.

James, Farrell joined Wigan Warriors in 1997. Farrell played for Wigan for six seasons before joining London Broncos in 2004. Farrell rejoined Wigan in 2006 and has since played for the club for six more seasons.

Andy Farrell has also represented England at international level and has won multiple titles, including the World Cup in 2007. In 2011, Farrell was named the England captain and has led the team to multiple successes since then.

Andy Farrell is currently the head coach of the Ireland national rugby league team. Andy Farrell is one of the most recognizable and successful rugby league players of all time.

7. Martin Offiah

Martin Offiah

Martin Offiah is a retired professional rugby league footballer who played for the Widnes Vikings and Rochdale Hornets as a wing. Offiah came to prominence in the late 1980s, when he was one of the stars of the Widnes Vikings outfit.

He helped the Vikings to win the 1988-89 National League title and also represented England at international level.

 After leaving Widnes, Offiah joined Rochdale Hornets in 1991. He helped the club to promotion from the Second Division in his first season and also won the Challenge Cup in 1992.

In 1995, Offiah moved to the Salford City Reds and he helped the club to win the 1996-97 National League title. 

He also represented England at international level once more, in 1997. Offiah retired from professional rugby league in 1998, having made over 350 appearances and scored 56 tries in his career.

He now works as a television commentator. Martin Offiah was awarded an MBE in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours.

Kris Radlinski

Kris Radlinski is a former English footballer who played at full back and centre back. He began his career at Manchester United, but never made a first team appearance.

He then moved to Wigan Athletic, where he made over 200 appearances and won two League titles. He then had a brief spell in Italy with A.S. Roma, before retiring in 2006.

Kris Radlinski was voted Wigan's greatest ever player in a poll conducted in 2006. He has since started a coaching career, coaching the England under-17s and under-19s. He is currently the head coach of League Two side Morecambe.

Willie Isa is a New Zealand international rugby player who has played for the Blues and the Chiefs. He has played for both the New Zealand and the British and Irish Lions, and was part of the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour of Australia.

Andy Gregory is a rugby league footballer who played for Widnes and Warrington. He represented Lancashire at county level and made his début for Widnes in 1979.

Gregory played for Warrington from 1984 to 1986, and was part of the team that reached the 1986 Challenge Cup Final. Gregory signed for Wigan in 1986, and helped the club win the League Championship in 1990 and the Super League Championship in 1992.

He retired at the end of the 1992 season, and has since worked as a coach with the Wigan Academy. Gregory was made an OBE in the 2003 Queen's Birthday Honours. He was inducted into the Widnes Hall of Fame in 2009. Gregory is the father of fellow rugby league footballer, Andy Gregory Jr.

Gregory is currently the head coach of the Wigan Warriors' Academy. Andy Gregory was one of the most successful coaches in the history of English rugby league. 

He was in charge of Leeds from 1992 to 1995, and Salford from 1995 to 1999. Gregory's teams were often successful, winning 27 league games and 2 cup competitions in his time at Leeds.

He left Salford in 1999, after leading them to the play-offs, but then returned to coach the club in 2007. Gregory retired from coaching at the end of the 2007 season. 

He has since been involved in studio work and commentary for rugby league matches. Gregory is currently the head coach of the Leigh Centurions in the Super League. Gregory is a former captain of Great Britain. He was inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2009.

12. George Williams

George Williams

George Williams is a scrum-half from Wigan, who has been playing rugby union since he was a young boy. Williams made his debut for England in May 2016, and has since gone on to make several appearances for the national team.

He has also played for the British and Irish Lions, and is currently playing in the Pro14 for Edinburgh.

Dean Bell is a former New Zealand international rugby league player. Bell played for Manukau in the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons. Bell was a loose forward.

Bell played for Leeds in the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. Bell was a wing and centre. Bell played for Carlisle in the 1986-87 season. Bell played for Leeds again in the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons.

Eric Ashton

Eric Ashton was a centre forward who played for Wigan and Lancashire over a ten-year period. Ashton was capped by England at youth level and made his full debut in 1954.

He retired from playing in 1968 but continued to work in football administration. Ashton died in 2008 after a long illness. Ashton is widely regarded as one of the best centre forwards to have played in the 1950s and 1960s.

He was a member of the Wigan and Lancashire teams that won the Football League in the 1960-61 and 1966-67 seasons. Ashton was also a member of the England team that reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in 1960.

He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2005. Ashton is the father of former Manchester United and England winger Lee Ashton. Eric Ashton is one of the most successful coaches in British rugby league history. Eric Ashton won three championship titles as coach of Wigan and Leeds.

He also coached Great Britain to victory in the 1979 World Cup. Ashton is a well-respected figure in rugby league and is now in charge of the Leeds Rhinos. 

He has a reputation for developing young talent and has worked with some of the sport's biggest stars. Ashton is a gifted motivator and has a knack for getting the best out of his players.

He is known for his tough but fair approach to coaching and is highly respected by his peers. Ashton is a much-loved figure in rugby league and his teams are always competitive. He is a great ambassador for the sport and remains highly popular with the fans.

15. Billy Boston

Billy Boston was born in 1934 in Cardiff, Wales. Boston started playing rugby union in 1950 with Neath RFC. Boston played for Pontypridd RFC from 1952 until his retirement in 1965.

Boston was awarded the MBE in 1985. Boston has been married twice and has three children. Boston currently lives in Wales and is retired from rugby. Boston is a well-known Welsh rugby commentator and author.

Boston has written several books about his rugby experiences. Boston is a popular Welsh rugby commentator and author. Billy Boston was a wing and centre for Wigan from 1953 to 1968. He played in the British Lions tour of Australia in 1954 and was a member of the English XIII side that played France in 1954.

Boston played for Blackpool Boro from 1969 to 1970 and helped the team win the Division Two championship. He represented Great Britain at international level on 31 occasions, including three matches against France. Billy Boston died in March of 2012 at the age of 80.

Terry Newton

Terry Newton was a professional footballer who played for Bradford City in the Football League Championship. He was killed in a car accident in 2010 at the age of 31.

Terry Newton was born on 7 November 1978 in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. He played football for Wigan Athletic and Bradford City before joining Bradford City in the Football League Championship in 2003.

Newton played as a left-back for Bradford City and was a regular in the team during his time with the club. He made over 150 appearances for Bradford City and helped the club to win promotion to the Football League Championship in 2006.

Newton was killed in a car accident on 26 September 2010 at the age of 31. The accident occurred in Bradford just hours after Bradford City had played their final game of the season. Terry Newton was remembered by his colleagues and fellow footballers around the world following his death.

He was posthumously inducted into the Bradford City Hall of Fame in 2013. Terry Newton is survived by his wife and two children.

Andy Coley is a prop for the Harlequins rugby team. He has played for England at under-21, under-19, and under-18 levels. He made his Harlequins debut in 2000.

He is the son of former England international, Andy Coley Sr. He has been with the club since 2000. He has won two Premiership titles with Harlequins. He has also been named the Premiership Player of the Year twice.

He has also been named the Aviva Premiership Player of the Year once. He has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on two occasions. Andy Coley is a Welsh international and former Wigan Warriors player.

He was born in Bridgend, Wales in 1981 and played for Swinton Lions, Salford City Reds and Wigan Warriors between 1997 and 2007. 

He represented Wales at under-21 level and made his debut for the senior side in 2001. He is a prolific point-scorer and was the Wigan Warriors' top try-scorer in 2006 and 2007.

He announced his retirement from professional rugby league in December 2007. He later became a coach with the Wigan Warriors and Swinton Lions junior squads.

Denis Betts is a second row forward who played for Wigan and Auckland Warriors in rugby league. Denis Betts was born in Salford, Lancashire, England in September 1969.

Denis Betts played for Wigan from 1986 to 1995 and then for Auckland Warriors from 1995 to 1997. Denis Betts played in 42 matches for Wigan and 44 matches for Auckland Warriors.

Denis Betts is 6 feet 0 inches tall and weighs 15 stone. Denis Betts was a part of the Great Britain team that won the 1996 World Cup. Denis Betts retired from rugby league in 1997.

Denis Betts currently works as a coach for the Wigan academy. Denis Betts is a father of two children and has been married to his wife since 1990. Denis Betts is a former professional rugby league footballer who played for the Wigan Warriors and Widnes Vikings in the English Super League.

He started his career with the Great Britain Youth team before signing with the Wigan Warriors in 1998. Betts made his Super League debut in 1998 and went on to play 116 matches for the Wigan Warriors, scoring 34 tries. He was part of the Wigan Warriors team that won the 1998–99 Super League title.

Betts left the Wigan Warriors at the end of the 2009 season and joined the Widnes Vikings. He played for the Widnes Vikings for two seasons before moving to the Newcastle Thunder in 2011. Betts retired from rugby league in 2018 after playing for the Newcastle Thunder for one season.

19. Shaun Edwards

Shaun Edwards is a former English full back who played for Wigan and Balmain Tigers. Edwards made his international debut for England in 1987 and played 86 times for his country.

Edwards was a regular for Wigan in the 1990s and won the English title with the club in 1993. Edwards switched to rugby union in 1997 and played for Balmain Tigers in the Australian Rugby Union.

Edwards retired from rugby in 2002 and has since worked as a journalist for BBC. Edwards was made an OBE in 2006 for services to sport. Edwards is now a coach for the Wigan academy and is also a pundit for the BBC.

Edwards married in 2002 and has two children. Edwards is an ambassador for the Rugby Football Union and has worked with young people in deprived areas. Shaun Edwards is a former player and current coach who has worked with both London Wasps and Wales.

George Carmont

Carmont started his rugby career with the Auckland Rugby Union in New Zealand, before transferring to the French side Toulon in 2000. He made his international debut for New Zealand in 2002 and has since gone on to make over 60 appearances for his country.

He has also played for the Crusaders in the Super 14 and for the Canterbury Rugby Union in the National Provincial Championship

. In 2009, he signed with the Edinburgh Rugby Club and has since made over 100 appearances for the side. Carmont is currently contracted to the Edinburgh Rugby Club until the end of the 2016-2017 season.

He has been a part of the New Zealand national side since 2002 and has since captained his country on a number of occasions. Carmont is a powerful and accurate ball carrier and is also very quick and agile on the ground.

O'Loughlin has also appeared in a number of feature films, including the action film Speed and the romantic comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting. In 2013, O'Loughlin was awarded an OBE for his services to the performing arts.

O'Loughlin is married to actress Jessica Brown Findlay and they have two children. O'Loughlin is currently starring in the TV series Midsomer Murders. O'Loughlin is a keen advocate for cancer awareness and has spoken about his battle with the disease in the past.

Frano Botica was born on 3 August 1963 in Mangakino, New Zealand. Botica played rugby league for Wigan and Auckland in the 1990s and 1996. Botica represented New Zealand at international level in 1995.

Botica is now a rugby coach. Frano Botica was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1991. Botica started playing rugby union at the age of seven and quickly became a star player in his local club. Botica made his test debut for New Zealand in 2006 and went on to play seven internationals for the team.

Botica joined North Harbour in the Super Rugby season of 2014 and helped the side to a title victory. Botica was called up to the New Zealand national team in 2013 and has since played two tests.

Terry O'Connor is a prop, and he played for Widnes from 1990-1993. O'Connor played for England from 1993-1996, and he was a member of the 1995 Rugby World Cup squad.

He played for Sale Sharks from 1996-1998, and he was a part of the 1997 Challenge Cup-winning side. O'Connor played for Newcastle Falcons from 1998-2001, and he was a part of the 2000-2001 Heineken Cup-winning side.

George Banks was born on March 3, 1909, in Castleford, England. He died unknown, but is most well-known for his time playing prop for the Castleford Tigers in the National Rugby League.

Banks made his professional debut with the Tigers in 1929, and went on to play for the team until 1946. He was a member of the Tigers' first ever team, and was also a part of their 1934 and 1936 premiership teams.

Va'aiga Tuigamala was born on 4 September 1969 in Faleasiu, Western Samoa. He played rugby league for Wigan from 1993 to 1997. Tuigamala was a centre and wing.

Tuigamala died on 24 February 2022, aged 52, in Auckland, New Zealand. Tuigamala was the cousin of rugby league legend David Tua. Va'aiga Tuigamala, or "Vai" for short, was born in Suva, Fiji on December 2, 1978.

Vai played his rugby union for Samoa from 1995 to 2002, making 113 appearances and scoring 160 points. Vai was a member of the Newcastle Falcons from 1997 to 2002 and was a regular starter for the side. In 2001, Vai was part of Samoa's squad that competed in the 2001 Rugby World Cup.
