Mets manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that outfielder Marte Wilander won’t return for the team’s final three games of the season. However, he didn’t rule out Wilander returning on Friday or in the postseason if necessary.
If Wilander doesn’t play again this year, it will be his first full season not playing in a major league game since 2009 with Oakland Athletics. The 26-year-old is batting .226 with five home runs and 21 RBIs this season after being acquired from Seattle Mariners last July 1st in exchange for minor league reliever Tommy Milone and international bonus slot money ($500,000).
Wilander has played all three outfield positions as well as second base for New York this year and could fill any need should another player get injured during the regular season finale against Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field (1:10 p.m./ET/PT).
Why Is Starling Marte Not Playing?
The Mets Manager Buck Showalter said that Marte won’t return for the final three games of the season, but he doesn’t rule out him returning on Friday. If need be, he could come back in the postseason if necessary.
This decision comes as a surprise to some people because it looked like Marte was close to playing his final game with the team this year. However, there are still several weeks left in the season and anything can happen between now and then so we’ll have to wait and see what happens next week when they play their last game of 2018 against Atlanta…
Marte Won’t Return for Final 3 Games
Starling Marte won’t return for the final three games of the season, and manager Alex Cora is not sure what’s wrong with him. The team has been struggling without Martinez in the lineup, going 1-2 so far this month.
According to reports, it could be a combination of injuries and fatigue that are causing his problems right now. It’s still possible that Martinez will come back in some capacity before the end of the year, but there’s no guarantee at this point.
If he can’t get healthy soon then we may have to say goodbye to one of the most exciting players on our team…for now.
Mets Manager Buck Showalter Doesn’t Rule Out Him Returning on Friday
Starling Marte didn’t play in the Mets’ 9-2 loss to the Nationals on Thursday night because of a sore left thumb. Manager Buck Showalter said he doesn’t want to rule out whether or not Marte will return for Friday’s game against the Marlins.
If Marte can’t go, rookie Dominic Smith will start at first base and bat fourth in the lineup. Smith had two hits and an RBI on Thursday night but also struck out four times in seven plate appearances.. The Mets are 6-10 since trading for Martinez before the trade deadline last month and they’re currently three games behind division leader Atlanta Braves with 28 games remaining in the season
He Could Come Back in Postseason If Necessary
Starling Marte is not playing because of an injury, but he could come back in the postseason if necessary. The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping that their other players can pick up the slack while Marte is out, and they’ll need to do so in order to make it to the playoffs.
Manager Clint Hurdle said that he doesn’t think there’s a “catastrophic fracture or anything like that”, but they won’t know for sure until they get him checked out by doctors. In his absence, Andrew McCutchen has been putting up big numbers and Jean Segura has also played well at shortstop thus far this season.
If Marte does miss any time due to his injury, don’t be surprised if another player steps up and takes over for him on the diamond during post-season play
Is Starling Marte injured?

- Starling Marte has been injured and is likely out for the remainder of the season. This injury could have serious implications on Darin Ruf’s playing status, as their roster configuration depends on his health.
- While it’s impossible to say for certain, it seems like there may be another player involved in this injury-related issue beyond just Starling Marte and Darin Ruf. The extent of their injuries and who was responsible for them remains unknown at this time, so we’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds over the next few weeks or months.
- MLB teams typically aren’t forthcoming about injuries sustained by players during the course of a game or series, so don’t hold your breath waiting for an update from any team regarding Starling Marte’s condition or when he might return to action.
- “I’m never going to say never,” said Reds manager Bryan Price when asked if he thought Starlin Martin would play again this year after being injured earlier in September against Milwaukee”. So while you can expect some updates soon enough concerning Martin’s prognosis, they’re not necessarily guaranteed – yet another mystery surrounding an MLB Injury.
- When something bad happens involving an MLB player (like an injury), fans always wonder “who did it?” Well…it looks like we won’t know exactly who was responsible for injuring Starlin Martin until all of the facts are known – but rest assured that whoever did it will be held accountable somehow.
What’s going on with Starling Marte?
Starling Marte is returning to the Mets after spending parts of the past two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He’ll bat sixth and play right field for Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins, his former team.
In November 2021, Marte signed a four-year contract with the Mets that will keep him in New York through 2025. Earlier today, the Mets’ injured list was lifted and he rejoined their roster immediately–adding depth to an already talented squad of players.
Is Starling Marte out for the season?
It’s hard to tell at this point whether Starling Marte will be able to play in the postseason. He has been struggling with a thumb injury and he did not participate in the Dominican Republic series. If he can’t get healthy, it is possible that the Pirates could option him out of their playoff roster.
Mets Manager Buck Showalter Says Starling Marte Won’t Be Ready to Return from Injured List Any Sooner Than Friday
Depending on how he fares in workouts, Starling Marte may not be ready to return earlier than Friday. If everything goes according to plan, it’s possible that the shortstop won’t be back until after the All-Star break. This is a big blow for the Mets, who were counting on him to help lead them towards their playoff aspirations this season.
Depending On How He Fares in Workouts, Marte May Not Be Ready to Return Earlier Than Friday
If all goes well and StarlingMarte outperforms his expectations during workouts, then he may not have any issues with returning sooner than Friday as originally planned. However, if there are any setbacks or problems with his rehab process then it’s more likely that he’ll miss at least some time following surgery.
It’s Possible That The Shortstop Won’t Be Back Until After The All-Star Break.
How did Marte break his finger?
Marte was playing with a toy truck when it somehow got stuck in the spokes of the wheel. He tried to free it by pulling on the handle, but his finger got caught. The sharp edges of the truck wheel broke Marte’s little finger.
- Marte broke his finger while swinging a bat and hit off of a tee. This is an example of how injuries can occur when playing sports. When you swing the bat, it makes contact with the ball and sends it flying towards the player or target. If you are not properly gripping the bat, your hand may slip and cause you to strike your fingers in front of the handle.
- When hitting off of a tee, there is less distance between you and the ball which means that impact forces are higher than when batting at ground level. This can lead to fractures in bones such as those in your hand if they are struck incorrectly or by accident.
- Fingers have many joints including wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip etc., which all provide strength for different actions like holding a pen or wielding an axe etc.. Fractures caused by accidents usually involve multiple joints being injured simultaneously which makes them extremely difficult to heal correctly without surgery.
- Injuries sustained from swinging bats can also result in broken fingers since hitters often use their palms against hard surfaces when striking balls away from them (known as ‘palm strikes’). Broken fingers due to palm strikes typically happen on top-handers where the thumb overlaps with two otherfingers – this area is especially vulnerable because it doesn’t have much padding on its surface
- If symptoms persist after attempting self-care measures such as ice packs or ibuprofen then seeking medical attention should be considered.
To Recap
There could be many reasons why Starling Marte is not playing, but one of the most likely causes is that he is sick or injured. If you see any changes in your bird’s behavior, such as a decrease in activity or appetite, take him to a vet for an exam and possible treatment.
