Shannon Rugby Football Club is one of the most successful clubs in the All Ireland League, with nine titles to their name. Based in Limerick near the banks of the Shannon river, Shannon RFC is a member of the Irish Rugby Football Union Munster Branch and a top amateur side in Ireland.

Born in Limerick, Ireland, Brendan Foley was a rugby union player who achieved international success with Ireland. Foley started his rugby career at St.
Mary's CBS, where he was a prolific lock. Foley made his international debut in 1970 and played a total of 80 Tests for Ireland, captaining the side in 1984.
Foley was a part of the Irish team that won the Five Nations Championship in 1987 and the Rugby World Cup in 1987. Foley retired from rugby in 1991 and later became a coach with Ulster.

Pat Murray is a rugby union player who has played for Ireland, Munster and Gloucester. Murray was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1963. He started his rugby union career with Munster before moving to Gloucester in 1990.

Thompson was born in Borris-in-Ossory, Ireland on 9 March 1974. He started playing rugby union at the age of five and quickly developed into a talented player.
