Early years

Adalius Thomas had a distinguished high school career at Central Coosa High School in Rockford, Alabama. He was an outstanding letterman for both football and basketball teams during his time there.

His senior year of football saw him earn Class 4A all-state selection from the Birmingham News as well as honorable mention recognition from the Montgomery Advertiser. Thomas’ success on the court proved even greater than that achieved on the field, however; he led his team to win a state title while being named Alabama’s Class 4A Player of The Year.

He was an integral part of one of Conference USA’s top defenses and won Defensive Player of the Year honors in both his junior and senior years, helping lead the team to three conference championships (1996, 1997, 1999).

During this time they only lost two conference games while also winning two Liberty Bowls. Thomas’ individual success on defense proved invaluable as he helped keep opponents scoreless or under their average each year during his tenure at Southern Miss despite facing some formidable competition.

His pass rushing abilities were particularly impressive; leading to multiple sacks per game which often resulted in drives stalling out before reaching scoring range.

He was able to make plays all over the field with great speed and agility that allowed him to chase down ball carriers from sideline to sideline even when double-teamed by offensive linemen.

Notably, Adalius Thomas set school records for tackles for loss (46) and sacks (27) throughout his four years at USM.

Adalius Thomas had a successful professional career in the NFL. Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2000, he competed with Peter Boulware and Michael McCrary for playing time during his first three years with the team.

During that span, he made 89 tackles while also being inactive for 12 games during his rookie season. However, he played all 16 games of 2001 season and started two at defensive end as well as recording 15 special teams tackle.

In 2002, Adalius Thomas started 12 games at the defensive end and recorded two interceptions along with 8 passes defended 4 sacks and one forced fumble making it an impressive year altogether. His remarkable performance was recognized when chose to represent himself on the Pro Bowl through 2003.

This eventually led him to place on injured reserve by December 17th but still managed to lead the team’s 23 special teams tackles even then greatly contributing towards their success.
