Cricket has been a popular sport in New Zealand for many years. It is the national sport, and the New Zealand cricket team, known as the Black Caps, have had a long history of international success.

The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) governs the sport in the country, and the majority of cricket is played at a domestic level. The Black Caps have achieved a number of successes in international cricket, including winning the World Cup in 2019.

In addition to the Black Caps, there are several other teams in New Zealand that compete in regional and international tournaments.

Kane Williamson is a top-order batter for New Zealand and has played for the team since 2010. He made his Test debut in November 2010 against India and has gone on to play 242 Tests, scoring 38 centuries with three double-hundreds.

Williamson also represented New Zealand in One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 2010 to the present, amassing 161 caps in all which include two World Cup wins in 2015 and 2019. 

With an average of over 50 runs per innings, Kane Williamson is one of the most successful batsmen for New Zealand during the modern era.

Kane Williamson is a New Zealand cricketer who has played for Northern Districts, Gloucestershire, and Yorkshire. He made his Test debut in 2007 against India and has since played 90 matches, scoring 158 runs with an average of 53.83. 

In ODIs, he has scored 87 runs with an average of 47.68 while in T20Is he has scored 157 runs at an average of 33.29, including two centuries and 17 fifty-plus scores to date.

Williamson was named the ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2017 after leading New Zealand to their first-ever World Cup victory that year and also winning the CPL T20 title with Barbados Tridents that season as captain/coach). 

Kane Williamson is contracted to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad until 2022.

Colin de Grandhomme is an all-rounder who has played for New Zealand since 2012. He made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2016 and has notched up 270 caps to date.

Colin de Grandhomme's father, Laurence, also played for New Zealand and the pair have a close relationship. De Grandhomme is known for being a destructive hitter of the ball both batting and bowling right-handed.

Outside of cricket, he studies law at Victoria University in Wellington and regularly volunteers with several charity organizations Colin de Grandhomme made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the West Indies against South Africa in March 2012.

He last played an ODI match for the Windies against the Netherlands in April 2022. De Grandhomme is a left-handed batsman and he has represented Jamaica Tallawahs, Warwickshire, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in T20Is.

In November 2017, he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders as their overseas player for the 2018–19 season but injury ruled him out of most of that year's competitions including the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20).

He returned to play first-class cricket with Northern Districts during the 2019 season before linking up again with RCB for their inaugural Indian Premier League campaign in 2020/21.

3. Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner made his Test debut in November 2015 against Australia. He has played 67 Tests and 38 ODIs for New Zealand. Mitchell Santner is an all-rounder who bowls left-arm orthodox and bats left-handed.

He was the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season, with 29 dismissals in seven matches. 

In September 2018, he was named as one of the fifteen players to receive a central contract from NZ Cricket for the 2018–19 domestic season Mitchell Santner made his debut for New Zealand in the Twenty20 International cricket format against England in June 2015.

Santner has since gone on to play 84 matches and 78 ODIs for the Kiwis, with 56 T20I appearances to his name so far. The left-arm fast bowler has taken 4,037 wickets across all formats of the game and is currently ranked second on New Zealand's all-time list behind only Daniel Vettori. 

He was part of the Chennai Super Kings side which won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2018 and also played a key role as they reached the final of that tournament last year before losing out to Mumbai Indians.

In international cricket, Santner has represented both Northern Districts and Worcestershire domestically over recent years but will represent Chennai Super Kings from 2020 onwards after signing a three-year contract extension earlier this year.

Trent Boult is a New Zealand bowler who has represented his country in Test cricket and One Day Internationals. He made his Test debut against Australia in December 2011, taking five wickets in the match as the tourists were dismissed for 181 all out.

Boult enjoyed more success during the 2015–16 season, claiming 38 wickets at an average of 22.48 apiece to help guide New Zealand to their first ever World Cup victory. 

In May 2018 he was named Man of the Match after taking 4/36 from 11 overs against England in Wellington, helping seal a three-wicket win and ensuring that New Zealand qualified for next year's World Cup as runners-up behind India..

Trent Boult is a New Zealand fast bowler who made his international debut in 2012. He has played 78 Tests, 99 ODIs and 55 T20Is for the Kiwis. His best performance came during the 2017 ICC World Cup.

Where he took 5 wickets in 4 matches to help New Zealand reach the semi-finals. He was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2018 Indian Premier League season but failed to impress and was released at the end of the campaign.

In 2019, he joined Delhi Capitals and has been impressive so far with figures of 113 runs from just 55 balls (an average of 34) with 6 fours and 2 sixes scored in that time period too. 

Moving forward, Trent Boult will be looking to continue his good form as part of an exciting young side when they take on Pakistan next November in their first ever bilateral ODI series win.

Brendon McCullum is a New Zealand international cricketer who has played for his country since 2002. He is best known as an opening batsman and wicket-keeper, but can also bowl right-arm medium pace.

Brendon McCullum made his Test debut in 2002 against Australia at Dunedin, and went on to score over 3000 runs in Tests, including two centuries and thirteen fifties. 

He was the leading run scorer in the 2013–14 touring Sri Lanka cricket team, scoring 842 runs in six matches at an average of 58.50 – second only to Sachin Tendulkar (973).

Brendon McCullum won the ICC World Cup 2011 with New Zealand as their captain after beating England by 6 wickets in the final at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai India. 

In December 2014 he announced that he would retire from all forms of international cricket after the 2015 Cricket World Cup which saw New Zealand make it to the semi finals where they were narrowly beaten by eventual champions Australia.

On 17 March 2016 Brendon completed 200 ODIs making him one of only eleven players to achieve this feat and also equal joint fourth all time with Brian Lara on 4378 ODI runs behind Sachin Tendulkar (4763), Rahul Dravid (4921) & MS Dhoni (5000).

Daniel Vettori is an all-rounder who has played for New Zealand since 1997. He was part of the team that won the 2002 World Cup and 2007 ICC World Twenty20, as well as winning silver in the 2012 London Olympics.

In 2011, he became only the third player to take 100 wickets and score 1000 runs in Test cricket - a feat he repeated in 2013. Vettori also captained New Zealand at two T20 Internationals (2013 & 2017) and one ODI (2015).

Outside of cricket, Daniel Vettori is involved with Sport Kids Auckland where he helps promote physical activity amongst children aged 5-18 years old through his 'Daniel's Way' program which involves weekly clinics across Auckland delivered by himself.

Glenn Phillips is a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper who made his international debut for New Zealand in July 2022. He has played 27 Tests, 204 ODIs and one T20I for the Kiwis.

Glenn is married to former South African cricketer Dale Phillips and they have two children together. In December 2017, he was signed by Hampshire as their overseas player for the 2018 season after impressing with the Auckland Aces in New Zealand's domestic competition.

Phillip caught David Warner at short leg during Australia's first innings of the second Test match in Wellington which helped secure victory for the home side. Phillips was born in Auckland on 9 January 1995. 

He made his Test debut for New Zealand against Pakistan at Eden Park on 9 January 2023 and scored a duck.

Phillips also played ODIs and T20Is for the Kiwis before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in May 2020. After retiring, Phillips joined the coaching staff of Gloucestershire where he currently remains as an assistant coach to head coach Paul Farbrace.

In December 2021, Phillips was named Barbados' first-class captain following the resignation of Daren Powell, who had been appointed director of cricket earlier that year.

In October 2022, Phillips led Jamaica Tallawahs to their maiden Twenty20 International (T20I) victory over India at Sabina Park with figures of 2/11 from four overs including three wickets and an unbeaten 38 not out off 27 balls which helped secure a six-wicket win after being reduced to 17/5 down in chase.

Devon Conway is a top-order batter for New Zealand and has played in every Test, ODI and T20I match since his debut in 2021. Devon was born in Johannesburg but moved to Auckland when he was young.

He attended St Kentigern's Collegiate School before playing cricket for North Harbour Breakers. Devon made his first-class debut for the Northern Knights during the 2016–17 season and scored a century against Otago Central in February 2017.

In March 2019, Devon signed with Wellington Phoenix ahead of the 2020–21 Australian National Cricket League (ANZAC).

Season as they prepared to join international cricket competitions again following their suspension from all global tournaments due to doping offenses committed by some members of their squad between 2015 and 2018.

After impressing on loan at Tasmanian Devilbats throughout the Major Series Cricket (MSC) competition, Devon made his international return at number four position for New Zealand’s two-match series against England that started on 2 June 2021.

He went on to score 281 runs at an average of 43 making him one of only three players ever to score 1000 runs or more batting fourth or lower down the order – alongside Brian Lara and Rahul Dravid Devon also took 3 wickets conceding 30 runs each.

Which helped win both matches including being named man of the match in both games; this led him into contention for selection for New Zealand’s upcoming tour of Pakistan starting 2 January 2023.

Where he would make his last appearance before retiring from International cricket aged 31 years old Following retirement from International cricket.

Dev will move back home to Wellington and continue working as a business consultant while also taking up opportunities offered by various teams within domestic NZA Grade Cricket.

Martin Guptill is a right-handed opening batter for New Zealand. He made his Test debut in 2009 against India and has since played 43 matches, scoring 973 runs with an average of 34.09.

In the shorter forms of the game he is also very effective, having scored over 1000 runs in First Class cricket and averaging 50 in T20s. A powerful hitter of the ball, Martin Guptill often opens the batting with top scorers like Kane Williamson or Ross Taylor at number 3 or 4 in New Zealand's line-up.

Originally from Auckland, Martin now plays club cricket for Wellington Phoenix and Western Storm respectively where he also bowls off break overs as well as batting lower down the order to give other batsmen time to get their eye in during innings long spells. 

Martin Guptill is a New Zealand cricketer who has played for his country since 2005 and made his international debut in 2009.

He was part of the Auckland squad that won the 2010/11 domestic T20 competition, before being signed by Sydney Thunder for their inaugural season in the IPL. 

Guptill enjoyed another successful year with Mumbai Indians in 2016, scoring 1,181 runs at an average of 38.90 including five centuries and two half-centuries en route to winning both the Indian Premier League (IPL) Player of the Tournament award and ESPNcricinfo's Cricketer of the Year accolade.

In 2017 he joined Kings XI Punjab on a Kolpak deal, but struggled with form as they were relegated from first division cricket midway through the season; nevertheless.

He finished as one of their leading run-scorers with 692 runs at 31.07 averaging over 40 per innings including three centuries and five fifties across all formats combined. 

The 2018/19 season saw him sign for Worcestershire County Cricket Club where he scored heavily throughout September culminating in becoming only just the sixth player ever to score 1000 plus runs in each format of T20I & ODI cricket. 

When he reached 1100 not out against Somerset on 14th December 2018 - equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record for most aggregate scores across all versions if Twenty20Is & ODIs respectively (Sachin Tendulkar: 1135*).

This success led him to be awarded International Cricket Council’s Global Ambassador status for 2019 alongside other ICC Ambassadors such as Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers which will see Martin tour various countries around world promoting cricket whilst also engaging with local communities.

Lockie Ferguson made his Test debut for New Zealand against Australia in December 2019. He had earlier represented the country in ODIs, making his debut against Australia in 2016.

Lockie Ferguson is a right-arm fast bowler who has played for Auckland and Otago sides before joining the national team in 2016. 

His best performance to date came during the third Test of the 2018–19 series against India, where he took six wickets at an average of 36.50 including a spell of 4/30 from 15 overs which helped secure victory for New Zealand by 161 runs.

In total, Ferguson has taken 276 Test wickets at an average of 34.11 with two five-wicket hauls – both achieved against Australia Lockie Ferguson made his international debut for New Zealand in the 2017 T20I series against Bangladesh. 

He has continued to feature regularly for NZ in limited-overs cricket, and last played an international match in November 2022 against India.

Lockie Ferguson plays primarily as a batsman but can also bowl medium pace effectively. Outside of cricket, he is studying business at university and works part-time as a fitness instructor when not playing or training with his team.

Tim Southee is a right-handed bowler who has played test cricket for New Zealand since 2008. He made his first international appearance in March 2008 against England and has since taken part in 167 tests, 98 ODIs and 27 T20s for the Kiwis.

A leg break bowler, Tim Southee is known for his accuracy with the ball, having claimed over 1000 Test wickets at an average of 32.8 from 237 appearances. 

In 2007 he won the ICC World Cup player of the tournament award after claiming six wickets in five matches including 2/27 off 11 balls to help New Zealand reach the final where they were beaten by Sri Lanka Tim Southee is a New Zealand international cricketer who made his Test debut in 2008 against England.

He has played 148 matches for the Kiwis, amassing 107 runs and 129 wickets at an average of 16.13 with a best performance of 7/49 against Sri Lanka in 2014-15. 

In all formats he has 88 appearances to his name, scoring 261 runs and taking 107 wickets at an average of 16.76 apiece - impressive figures for any player. 

The 30-year-old spin bowler was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2021 season and will be hoping to help them win their first IPL title since 2013 when they finished runners up to Chennai Super Kings.

12. Stephen Fleming

13. Martin Crowe

Martin Crowe was a noted New Zealand cricket player who enjoyed a successful international career. Crowe was born in 1962 in Henderson, New Zealand, and began playing cricket at a young age.

Crowe was a middle-order batsman who enjoyed a successful international career, notably playing for Australia and New Zealand. Crowe married Lorraine Downes in 1992 and the couple had two children.

Crowe died in 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was 53 years old. Crowe was a popular figure in the sport, and was known for his cheerful personality and love of cricket. His death was mourned by the cricket community around the world.

Crowe will be remembered as one of the most successful and popular players in New Zealand cricket history. Crowe was a successful batsman for New Zealand, scoring 5,444 runs in 77 matches at an average of 45.36. Crowe was also a very good fielder, taking part in 143 Tests and 247 ODIs for his country.

Crowe is best known for his batting exploits in Test cricket, where he scored 5600 runs at an average of 38.55. He also became a successful captain for New Zealand, leading them to victory in 261 matches. 

Crowe retired from international cricket in 1995, after playing his final match against India. After retiring from cricket, Crowe went on to have a successful career in the media, working as a commentator and journalist.

Crowe was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1961. He is married to journalist and author Jeanne Crowe. Crowe has two children, Rachael and Jordan, and lives in Wellington, New Zealand.

Ross Taylor is a middle-order batsman for New Zealand. Taylor has played 234 Test matches for his country, scoring over 10,000 runs with a best of 214 against India in 2017.

Taylor also has a consistent record in One Day Internationals, scoring over 3000 runs with a best of 158 against Australia in 2016. Taylor is known for his explosive batting and strong off break bowling.

Taylor is a member of the New Zealand Cricket Team's 'A' team and is also a regular in the New Zealand domestic circuit. Ross Taylor was born in Lower Hutt in 1984. Taylor completed his schooling at St Peter's College in Lower Hutt and then studied law at the University of Waikato.

Taylor began playing cricket at the age of eight and joined the Lower Hutt Cricket Club in 1999. Taylor made his Test debut for New Zealand against South Africa in 2007 and has since gone on to amass over 10,000 runs in the game.

Chris Cairns is one of the most successful all-rounders in cricket history. He has played for New Zealand for over 20 years and has won many awards during his career.

Chris Cairns was born in 1970 in Picton, New Zealand. He started playing cricket at an early age and quickly became a successful all-rounder. Chris Cairns has played 168 Test matches for New Zealand and has scored over 10,000 runs and taken over 1,000 wickets.

He has also played for several different teams around the world, including Australia, England, and the West Indies. Chris Cairns has won many awards during his career, including the ICC Player of the Year award in 2001 and the ICC Test Player of the Year award in 2004.

He is also a member of the ICC Hall of Fame. Chris Cairns retired from international cricket in 2006 and now spends his time coaching and playing domestic cricket in his home country, New Zealand.

Glenn Turner was born in 1947 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. He made his international debut for New Zealand in 1969 and played until 1983. Turner was a batsman and played most notably for Otago in domestic cricket.

He was known for his powerful batting and was a prolific scorer in test cricket. He is a member of the New Zealand cricket Hall of Fame. Glenn Turner has since retired from playing and now works as a cricket commentator.

He has two sons, one of whom also plays cricket for Otago. Glenn Turner is a popular figure in New Zealand and is known for his good humour and sense of humour. He currently resides in Dunedin. Glenn Turner was a prolific batsman and bowler for Worcestershire between 1967 and 1982.

He scored 2,991 runs and took 34,346 wickets in 41 matches. Turner was also a prolific batsman in One Day Internationals, scoring 1,598 runs and taking 103 wickets. His best bowling figures came in 1982 when he took 2/4 wickets in a match. 

Turner was a regular fixture in the Worcestershire side throughout his career, making 409 catches and 125 stumpings.

17. John Wright

Bevan Congdon was a renowned New Zealand batsman who played 104 Tests and scored more than 10,000 runs. He made his Test debut in 1965 against Pakistan and went on to play in 38 more Tests, retiring in 1978.

He was a right-handed batsman and bowler and is best remembered for his batting skills, particularly his ability to score runs in difficult situations. Bevan Congdon is also remembered for his charity work, which included helping to fund the development of the Bevan Congdon Foundation.

He died aged 79 in 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Bevan Congdon made his Test debut for New Zealand in 1973 against Pakistan. He also played in five ODIs in that series, taking a wicket in each of them. He then made his One Day International debut for Canterbury in 1978 against England.

He went on to play for Otago, Wellington, and Central Districts domestically before retiring from cricket in 1984. He has since served as a selector for the New Zealand national side.

31. Geoff Howarth

Geoff Howarth was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1951. He played first-class cricket for Auckland from 1969 to 1978 and for New Zealand from 1975 to 1985. Geoff Howarth made his Test debut against England in 1975 and went on to score 132 Test centuries, the most by any New Zealander.

He is the only New Zealander to score 1000 Test runs. Geoff Howarth was a regular in the New Zealand Test team from the early 1970s and was part of the side that won the 1982 Test series against England. 

He also played in the 1985 Test series against West Indies. Geoff Howarth played for New Zealand in a total of 102 ODIs, scoring 19 Test and 161 ODI half-centuries.

He was the leading run-scorer in ODIs when he retired in 1985. Geoff Howarth was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler. He was a highly successful batsman and is considered one of the all-time greats of New Zealand cricket. 

Geoff Howarth has been involved in cricket administration since his retirement from playing. He is the current chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZCB).

Geoff Howarth was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2003 Queen's Birthday Honours.

Scott Bernardo Styris, better known by his nickname Miley, is an all-rounder who has played for New Zealand in both test and one-day cricket. He made his test debut in 2002 against the West Indies and played his last test match in 2007 against South Africa.

He has also played for New Zealand in ODIs, making his debut in 1999 against India. In all, Styris has played 221 tests and 111 ODIs for his country. He has been a part of four World Cup squads, and has represented his country at the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups.

In October 2013, Styris announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He is the brother of cricketer Martin Styris. Styris is married to former Paralympian Mandy Seage and has two children. He is currently the assistant coach of the Queensland Bulls in the Australian Big Bash League.
