Jesse Luketa was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Ottawa’s Heron Gate neighborhood. Raised by his mother who emigrated from the Democratic Republic of Congo, he had a single-parent household. At 14 years old Jesse enrolled at Mercyhurst Preparatory School in Erie Pennsylvania for his final three years of high school.

During this time period, Jesse also became highly involved with several extracurricular activities outside of football such as volunteering with kids programs at local hospitals and mentoring children through the Big Brothers program.

As part of these commitments, Jesse organized multiple toy drives that provided gifts to families during the Christmas season who wouldn’t have been able to afford them otherwise.

In addition to giving back to the community, on-field performance was equally impressive throughout his high school career leading him toward becoming a nationally recognized prospect which ultimately resulted in numerous FBS scholarship offers. His leadership qualities were admired not only among students but coaches alike resulting in team captaincy while still attending prep school.

On top of everything else, excellent academic performance allowed him to become a member National Honor Society thus earning additional recognition among college scouts around the country.

Altogether it can be said without doubt that early life and Highschool experience prepared well for future success both athletically & academically allowing Jesse to reach the next level of playing collegiate football at the prestigious Penn state university.

College career

Jesse Luketa had a stellar college career at Penn State. As a freshman, he mostly played on special teams and made an impact in his limited playing time. Going into his sophomore year, he saw more significant action and tallied 24 tackles with four passes broken up.

He finished second on the team with 59 tackles along with 2.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and three pass breakups which led him to third-team All-Big Ten selection by coaches and media members respectively following the conclusion of that season.

His senior campaign resulted in another impressive performance where he switched between linebacker and defensive end positions throughout it resulting yet again being named Third Team All Big Ten Conference after finishing off another productive collegiate football year.

After completing this successful run at Penn State University, Jesse declared for 2022 NFL Draft knowing that all those collective efforts will be rewarded eventually.

He had previously been ranked as the top Canadian prospect ahead of that year’s CFL Draft, and so it came as no surprise when Ottawa Redblacks selected him 20th overall in their territorial draft pick.

Luketa spent time on both teams’ rosters before eventually being waived by Arizona on August 30, 2022 and signed to their practice squad soon after. After a few weeks with the team’s developmental program, Jesse earned a promotion to become part of their active roster on September 27th.

Since then, Luketa has continued to impress coaches and scouts alike with his outstanding athletic ability and strong work ethic; making multiple plays throughout several games for Arizona over these last two seasons.

This season alone saw him make 37 tackles (27 solo), 5 passes defended, 1 sack & 2 forced fumbles – proving himself an invaluable asset for this defense-minded franchise going forward into new campaigns down the line.

Not content just playing football however; Jesse also dedicated much of his free time off from training towards helping out local youth programs within Phoenix – becoming something of an inspiring role model amongst young aspiring athletes looking up at him today too.
