Freddy Adu is a Ghanaian-born American professional footballer who plays for Portuguese club Benfica and the United States national team. Freddy Adu began his career with D.C.

United, before moving to Portugal to play for Belenenses and AS Monaco (loan). He returned to MLS in 2010 with Aris, where he played until 2011 when he joined Benfica on a free transfer.

Freddy Adu was named USMNT player of the year in 2011 after scoring 10 goals in 24 appearances for the national side including two World Cup qualifiers and one Gold Cup final match victory over Mexico.

In December 2016, it was announced that Freddy would join English side Crystal Palace on loan from Benfica until the end of the season. On January 12th 2019, it was reported that Crystal Palace had exercised their option to sign Freddy permanently from Benfica.
