Wake Forest University is home to an esteemed football program that has been in existence since the late 19th century. As members of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have established themselves as a top-tier college football team.

With a long history of success and a passionate fan base, the Demon Deacons are a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron.

Greg Dortch was drafted by the New York Jets in 2019 but never played for them. He was then signed by the Carolina Panthers and spent time with them before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

With Arizona, he has been a starter from day one. Greg Dortch is 24 years old and stands at 5'7" tall, weighing 175 pounds. 

He attended Highland Springs High School in Richmond, Virginia before going on to play college football at Wake Forest University where he was an All-American receiver his senior year in 2018.

Undrafted out of college, Greg made his NFL debut with the New York Jets in 2019 but only appeared in two games (one start). 

After spending time on injured reserve with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, he found himself back with LOS Angeles who released him during final cuts last September.

However, they re-signed him late that month and now have him as their starting wide receiver ahead of veteran Larry Fitzgerald Jr.

Greg Dortch was a standout receiver at North Carolina and went on to have a successful career in the NFL. He had 47 receptions for 427 yards and two touchdowns during his time with the Panthers, and also added 640 return yards on kickoff returns.

In 2017, he made Second-team All-ACC after catching 43 passes for 497 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games played. Dortch is now an active player with the Indianapolis Colts, where he has appeared in five games this season so far but has not recorded any stats.

Bill George was a linebacker for the Chicago Bears from 1952 to 1965. He won an NFL championship with the team in 1963. After playing with the Bears, Bill George played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1966 to 1972.

He also had stints with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles during his career. Bill George passed away in 1982 at age 52 after a long battle with cancer. Bill George was one of the most feared defensive players in the NFL during the 1950s and 1960s.

He was a three-time first-team All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl selection, which speaks to his overall skills as a player. George is also notable for being part of the Chicago Bears' dynasty during that era, winning three championships (1955–1959). 

Bill George passed away in November 2016 at the age of 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

3. Jessie Bates III

Jessie Bates III was born on February 26, 1997, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended Snider High School where he starred as a safety for the Cavaliers football team and earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and senior.

After high school, Bates played college football at Wake Forest from 2015 to 2017 before being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018. 

In his rookie season with the Bengals, Bates started 10 games and recorded 55 tackles (33 solos), 1 sack, 3 passes defended, and 2 interceptions while helping lead Cincinnati to their first playoff appearance in over twenty years.

In 2019, Bates re-signed with the Bengals on a four-year contract extension that will keep him with Cincy through 2024. Jessie Bates III is a versatile defensive player who has shown prowess in stopping the run and defending passes. 

He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and he made an immediate impact, starting all 16 games for them that season.

In 2020, Bates won Second Team All-Pro honors after recording 463 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 37 pass deflections, and 13 interceptions on his way to being named ACC Defensive Player of The Year. 

Jessie Bates III is looking to make even more of an impact in his third year with Buffalo as they battle it out for a playoff spot this season.

Curry was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2009 NFL Draft. Curry played for the Seahawks from 2009 to 2011 and then spent time with the Oakland Raiders before returning to Seattle in 2012.

Curry has been a part of three Super Bowl-winning teams during his career, which demonstrates his importance to both sides of the football field. He is known for being an excellent defensive back, but also possesses exceptional ball skills that he uses on occasion as a receiver out wide.

As one of only two African American assistant coaches currently working in the NFL, Curry provides valuable diversity awareness and coaching advice within professional sports circles Curry was a highly decorated linebacker at Florida State and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He played for the 49ers, Redskins, Raiders, and Giants before retiring after the 2018 season. Curry is best known for his time with the Seahawks where he won two Super Bowls (2014 and 2017) as well as being named to three Pro Bowls (2012-2015).

5. Sam Hartman

Sam Hartman is a senior quarterback at Notre Dame and was one of the most highly touted recruits in his class. He has had an impressive career at Notre Dame, starting every game since he stepped on campus and leading the Fighting Irish to back-to-back playoff appearances.

Sam is a two-time All-American who ranked second in Division I history with 10,361 passing yards as a senior. He will be playing for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles this season after being selected in the first round (No. 10 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. 

Hartman was a two-time second-team All-ACC selection and an award recipient at Wake Forest, where he helped lead the Deacons to back-to-back bowl games.

Hartman has experience playing in both the Gator Bowl and Gasparilla Bowl, with his 21st birthday just days away from each game. Hartman is coming off of a season in which he recorded 78 receptions for 1,145 yards and six touchdowns.

A.T. Perry is a junior wide receiver for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and he has already made an impact on the team this season. He was named to The Sports Journal's Preseason All-ACC Team, and he is poised to have another great year in 2017.

A.T. Perry also holds several other Academic Honor Roll accolades, which speaks volumes about his dedication to academics as well as football. A native of Lake Worth, Florida, A.T.'s parents are both athletic trainers. 

He began playing football at age 6 and quickly developed into one of the top receivers in his state. I love getting hit," Perry said after making a catch against Norfolk State last week." – ESPN.

A.T. Perry is a 6'5" tall and 205lb guard from Wake Forest who was named to the First-team All-ACC in 2021 and 2022. He has led the Demon Deacons to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, most recently reaching the Sweet 16 last year.

In his two seasons at Wake Forest, Perry averaged 14 points per game while shooting 45% from three point range and 83% from the free-throw line. 

His explosive athleticism makes him one of the toughest defenders in college basketball, as well as a formidable scorer off of pick & rolls or isolation plays on offense With his height, long arms and elite shotblocking ability, Perry could become an important contributor for any team he joins next season.

Desmond Clark was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 6th round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played college football at Wake Forest before being drafted. Clark has been a member of the Bears since 1999.

He has played in 137 NFL games, recording 49 receptions for 521 yards and 3 touchdowns. Clark has also played in the NFL playoffs four times, appearing in two NFC Championship games and two Super Bowls.

Clark is a three-time Pro Bowler. Clark is now a free agent and is likely to retire after the 2016 NFL season. Desmond Clark started his career with the Denver Broncos where he played for three seasons. He was a reliable receiver and scored 27 touchdowns during that time.

After leaving the Broncos, Clark signed with the Miami Dolphins where he spent the next two seasons. He continued to be a productive receiver and helped the Dolphins reach the playoffs in 2002. 

Clark next moved on to the Chicago Bears and spent the next six seasons there. He was a major part of the team’s success and was named to the Pro Bowl in four of those six seasons.

Clark retired in 2010 and has since been working as a broadcaster for the Bears. He is still an active player in the NFL and is often seen on broadcasts. Clark is a reliable receiver and is known for his ability to score touchdowns. 

He is a valuable member of any team and is a great role model for young players. Clark has spent a long career in the NFL and is considered one of the best receivers in league history.

Piccolo was one of the most exciting players to watch in the NFL. He was a halfback for the Chicago Bears and is best known for his performance in the 1971 Super Bowl.

Piccolo was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in 1943. He attended Central Catholic High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and played college football for Wake Forest.

Piccolo was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 1965 NFL draft, but he never played in the league. He died in 1970, at the age of 26, after a battle with cancer. Piccolo is one of only three players in NFL history to have played in a Super Bowl and a World Series game.

He was also a member of the US Olympic team that competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics. Piccolo was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1984. He is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the United States Football League Hall of Fame.

9. Riley Skinner

Riley Skinner is a quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Skinner was drafted by the Jaguars in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Skinner has also played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Skinner has appeared in 112 games in his career, completing 2,668 of 4,737 pass attempts for 25,837 yards and 153 touchdowns. Skinner has also rushed for 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns. Skinner is a two-time Pro Bowler and was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week in 2010.

Skinner is married to actress Katheryn Winn. Skinner is a resident of Jacksonville, Florida. Skinner is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. 

Riley Skinner was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and was expected to be a top-flight NFL quarterback. He never quite reached those heights, but has had a successful career nonetheless.

Skinner played for the New York Giants from 2010-2013, but was mostly a backup. He did have a few standout moments, notably leading the Giants to a come-from-behind victory in the 2011 NFC Championship game. 

Skinner is now a free agent and is looking for a new team to continue his career. He is a capable passer and has shown flashes of brilliance, but is likely to be a backup again.

Tyson Clabo was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. Tyson Clabo played for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants before signing with the San Diego Chargers in 2006.

Clabo played for the Chargers until 2011, when he was released. Clabo then signed with the Atlanta Falcons, where he played until 2013. Tyson Clabo then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played until being released in 2016.

Clabo has since retired from professional football. Tyson Clabo was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2020. Tyson Clabo is married and has two children.

Michael Campanaro was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in the 2014 season, and played for the team until 2017.

Campanaro had a breakout year in 2016, catching 68 passes for 910 yards and five touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was named the Ravens' Most Valuable Player. Campanaro signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2018, and has played in eight games so far this season.

He has recorded 43 receptions for 454 yards and two touchdowns. Campanaro is a former standout receiver at Virginia Tech, where he led the ACC in receptions and receiving yards in both of his seasons. 

He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens and played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans before being released in 2017.

Campanaro has been a productive receiver in the NFL, hauling in 310 receptions for 4,343 yards and 34 touchdowns. He is a capable punt returner as well, with 10 returns for 658 yards and one touchdown. 

Campanaro is a versatile receiver who can contribute on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He is a strong blocker in the run game and can also contribute as a receiver on third down.

Campanaro is a hard worker who is always looking to improve his game. He is a team player who is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. Campanaro is a restricted free agent this offseason and will likely receive a contract offer from the Titans. If he signs with the Titans, he will be a valuable contributor on offense.

Norm Snead was a successful quarterback in the NFL for many years. He was drafted by the Redskins in 1961 and played for them for three seasons. He then played for the Buffalo Bills for two more seasons.

Norm Snead finished his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967. He is now retired and lives in Virginia. Norm Snead is a true pioneer in the sport of football and is still remembered by many as one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

Norm Snead was a successful NFL quarterback from the 1960s through the 1970s. Snead played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers. Norm Snead was a three-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in completion percentage in 1972.

Norm Snead was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Norm Snead passed away in 2007 at the age of 74.

13. Chris Barclay

Chris Barclay is a running backs coach for the Louisville Cardinals. Barclay played college football at Wake Forest. He was undrafted in 2006 and then played for the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints in the NFL.

Barclay has also coached running backs for the Atlanta Falcons, New York Sentinels and Louisville Cardinals. Barclay was born on October 15, 1983 in Louisville, Kentucky. He currently weighs 180 pounds and stands at 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Barclay has a wife and two sons. Barclay is a Kentucky native and is also a avid basketball and baseball fan. Barclay is a running backs coach for the Louisville Cardinals and has been with the team since 2013. Chris Barclay was a three-time All-ACC running back for Wake Forest from 2003-2005.

He helped the Demon Deacons to a 31-14 record and two ACC championships during his time there. Barclay later played in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.

Alphonso Smith has spent his entire NFL career with the Detroit Lions. Alphonso Smith has started all but one game during his NFL career. Smith is a versatile cornerback, capable of playing both the outside and slot positions.

Smith has recorded 116 tackles, four interceptions, and one sack in his career. Smith is a vocal leader on the Lions defense. Alphonso Smith is a candidate for the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award. Alphonso Smith is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Alphonso Smith is a key part of the Lions' defense and is expected to remain with the team in 2017. Alphonso Smith will be an important part of the Detroit Lions' future. 

Alphonso Smith was a consensus All-American in 2008 and a second-team All-American in 2007. He was a first-team All-ACC selection in 2007 and 2008.

15. Billy Ray Barnes

Billy Ray Barnes played for the NFL for 13 seasons, from 1957 to 1971. Barnes was a halfback for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Colts and Dallas Cowboys.

He was a two-time Pro Bowler and was inducted into the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Colts Hall of Fame. Barnes also served as the head coach of the Browns and Cowboys.

He passed away in February 2003 at the age of 75. Barnes was a 3-time Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. Barnes was a standout running back for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Barnes died in a car accident in 1966 at the age of just 27.

16. Ricky Proehl

Proehl was a wide receiver for the Phoenix Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks, playing for three different teams in the 1990s. He was a member of the Seahawks team that won the Super Bowl in 1995.

Proehl returned to the NFL with the St. Louis Rams in 2002, and has been a receivers coach for the BattleHawks since 2013. He was inducted into the Seahawks Hall of Fame in 2009. Proehl is married and has two children.

Proehl is a former NFL wide receiver who played for the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts. Proehl was a member of the Carolina Panthers' 2002 Super Bowl team that defeated the St. Louis Rams. Proehl played college football at the University of South Carolina.

Dave Clawson is the current head coach of Wake Forest University, having been promoted from offensive coordinator in 2016. Clawson played college football at the University of Buffalo, where he was a two-time all-conference selection (defensive back, 1991, quarterback/running back, 1992).

Clawson began his coaching career at Albany (GA) in 1989, working as a defensive backs coach. Clawson moved on to Buffalo (DB), where he coached defensive backs for two seasons.

Bob Leonetti was a standout guard at Mount Carmel High School in Pennsylvania. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors in the second round of the 1943 draft.

He played for the Warriors, the Baltimore Bullets, and the Boston Celtics in a 14-year career. He was an All-Star twice (1953, 1954) and helped the Celtics win the NBA championship in 1957.

Leonetti was killed in a car accident in 1973. Bob Leonetti was a Hall of Fame linebacker for the Buffalo Bills and Brooklyn Dodgers in the NFL. Leonetti was drafted by the Bills in the ninth round in 1947 and went on to play eleven seasons in the league.

He was a two-time Pro Bowler and was named to the All-Pro team in 1956. Leonetti was inducted into the Bills' Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Dodgers' Hall of Fame in 1984. 

He is currently a broadcaster for the Bills and the CBS Sports Network. Leonetti is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.

Tony Gallovich was a halfback for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team from 1938-1941. Gallovich was drafted in the 7th round of the 1941 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles but did not play in the league.

Gallovich later played for the Richmond Spiders, the Baltimore Colts, and the Detroit Lions. Gallovich was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Gallovich died in 1999 at the age of 81 after a long illness.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Rams in the eighth round of the 1941 NFL Draft. Gallovich played with the Rams from 1941 to 1946. Gallovich then played with the Richmond Rebels from 1946 to 1947. Gallovich had 3 rushing yards in his 3 career games.

John Wolford is a 27-year-old quarterback who was drafted by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft but was released shortly after. Wolford played college football at Wake Forest and was a two-year starter for the Demon Deacons.

Anthony Rubino was born on June 20, 1921 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. He attended high school at Elizabeth Forward (PA) and played college basketball at Wake Forest University.

Rubino was a standout guard for the Demon Deacons and was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors in the 2nd round of the 1945 NBA Draft. He played for the Warriors, Baltimore Bullets, and New York Knicks in his career.

Rubino retired from the NBA in the late 1960s. After his retirement, he coached at the junior college level. Anthony Rubino died on November 30, 1983 at the age of 62. He was inducted into the Wake Forest University Hall of Fame in 1984.

Anthony Rubino was a three-time All-Star and was awarded the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award in the 1951-52 season. Rubino was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 1943 NFL Draft.

43. Carlos Bradley

Bradley was diagnosed with ALS in 2003, and he died in 2011 at the age of 62. Bradley is one of the most decorated linebackers in NFL history and his death was a tragic loss to the sport. 

Bradley's legacy includes being one of the NFL's most punishing tacklers and he will be remembered as one of the greatest Eagles of all time.
