The Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball team is one of the most storied programs in college basketball. With a long and illustrious history of success, the Orange have been a powerhouse in the NCAA for nearly a century. From their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1942 to their five Final Four appearances and one National Championship, the Orange have consistently been one of the best teams in the country.

With a roster of talented players and a coaching staff that has a proven track record of success, the Orange have the potential to make more deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. Carmelo Anthony is a two-time NBA MVP and six-time all-star. He was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2003, and has played for them, the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors.

In 2017 he joined the Houston Rockets as a free agent. Anthony is married to LaLa Vasquez and they have one daughter together named Kiara. 

Carmelo's hometown is Baltimore Maryland where he attended Towson Catholic High School before going on to play college basketball at Syracuse University from 2002 until 2003.

Winning an NCAA Championship in 2004 alongside fellow Syracuse alum Dwayne Wade Carmelo Anthony is an American professional basketball player who has played his entire career with the New York Knicks.

He was drafted by Denver Nuggets in 2003 and spent six seasons there before being traded to the Knicks in 2011. In 2017, he signed with Oklahoma City Thunder where he won a championship that year. 

Anthony then moved on to Houston Rockets for two seasons before returning to Oklahoma City for another title run in 2018-19 season. Melo is considered one of the best players in league history and will likely retire as a Hall of Famer when his playing days are over.

2. Rony Seikaly

Rony Seikaly was a dominant center in the NBA for many years. He had an excellent career with the Miami Heat and the Golden State Warriors, before retiring in 2000.

Seikaly is one of only two players to ever win three MVPs (the other being Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). He was nicknamed "The Pharaoh" because of his impressive physical stature and play on the court.

Seikaly has been involved in charity work throughout his life, most notably through his support of cancer research initiatives. 

Seikaly currently resides in Los Angeles, California, where he works as a television commentator for Lebanese networks and hosts a show about basketball culture in Lebanon Seikaly was a dominant player in the NBA for many years.

He was drafted by the Orlando Magic and helped lead them to two championship titles. Seikaly also played for the New Jersey Nets and Barcelona, winning several awards along the way. Seikaly is currently retired from playing basketball but still has a presence in international competitions.

Sherman Douglas was born in Washington D.C., on September 15, 1966. He attended high school at Spingarn where he starred as a point guard and led the team to glory in the 1983-84 season.

After graduating from high school, Sherman went on to play college basketball for Syracuse University before being drafted by the Miami Heat in 1989. 

Sherman played with the Heat until 2001 when he retired due to an injury sustained during his time playing for Milwaukee Bucks; after retirement, Sherman became a commentator for NBA games and wrote books about his life and basketball career.

Sherman Douglas was born in Los Angeles, California on October 8th of 1966. Sherman first stepped onto an NBA court as a member of the New Jersey Nets during the 1997-1998 season. 

He would go on to play for three different teams over the course of his career – most notably with the LA Clippers and New Jersey Nets – amassing 5,944 assists along the way. 

Aside from his stellar play on the court, Sherman is also well known for his humanitarian work both in America and abroad through organizations such as "The Dream Corps".

Sherman retired following the 2009-2010 season having played in 943 games and accumulated 19,611 points (10th all-time).

Derrick Coleman was a power forward and center for the New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets and Houston Rockets during his playing career.

He was drafted first overall in the 1990 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. Coleman appeared in over 1000 games during his 14-year NBA career averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Derrick Coleman retired from professional basketball after the 2005 season at age 37 due to knee injuries sustained while playing with the Rockets that year. Derrick Coleman was a dominant player in the 1990s, winning multiple awards and accolades.

He was an All-American at Syracuse and one of the best forwards of his era. Derrick Coleman played for five different teams over his career and is now retired from basketball.

Hakim Warrick was a power forward for the Memphis Grizzlies from 2005-2009. He then played with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2009-2010. Hakim Warrick is currently playing for the Phoenix Suns.

Hakim Warrick is a 6'10" power forward and center who played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals. After he graduated from college, Warrick joined the NBA's Phoenix Suns in 2010 and quickly became one of their most important players.

He was traded to the New Orleans Hornets in 2012 and then to the Charlotte Bobcats in 2013 before signing with Liaoning Flying Leopards of China last year. 

Warrick has won several awards during his career, including Second-team All-American – SN (2004), Third-team All-American – AP, NABC (2004), and Big East Player of the Year (2005).

Hakim will next play for Al Mouttahed Tripoli of Lebanon this season before returning to America to sign with Ironi Nahariya later on this year.

Michael Carter-Williams is a 31-year old American point guard who was drafted 11th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2013 NBA draft. After playing college basketball at Syracuse, Michael Carter-Williams joined the Sixers for the 2013–14 season and has since been one of their most consistent players.

In 2017, MichaelCarter Williams signed with Panathinaikos of Greece but left midway through the season after appearing in just five games. Since 2018, MCW has played with BC Khimki of Russia where he averaged 18 points and six assists per game this season before tearing his ACL in January 2019 against CSKA Moscow which ruled him out for the remainder of the year..

Michael Carter-Williams was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and entered the NBA as the sixth pick in 2013. MCW struggled to live up to expectations early on, averaging 13 points and five assists per game over his first two seasons with Philadelphia. 

In 2015, he was traded to Milwaukee where he flourished under new head coach Jason Kidd, averaging 18 points, six rebounds and four assists per game en route to an All-Star appearance.

He signed with Chicago in 2016 but again failed to meet lofty expectations; however, he enjoyed another productive season under new coach Fred Hoiberg before being dealt sent Houston at the trade deadline last year. 

MCW has since been named captain of Charlotte Hornets where he is playing some of his best basketball yet; in fact, they currently lead their division by nine games. Although still only 28 years old there's no telling how much more good Michael Carter-Williams can do in the NBA.

Lawrence Moten was a shooting guard who played in the NBA from 1995 to 2006. He attended high school at New Hampton in New Hampshire and then Syracuse University, where he won back-to-back NCAA championships with the team in 1995 and 1996.

Moten was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the second round of the 1995 NBA draft, and spent his entire playing career with that organization. 

In 2001, he signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat but never appeared in a game for them; two years later, he moved on to play one season each with Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks before retiring after 2006–07 season.

Lawrence Moten was a highly successful player in college and the NBA. He played for various teams over his career, including the Washington Wizards, Idaho Stampede, Maryland Nighthawks and Saskatoon Hawks. 

Moten is most famous for his time with Syracuse University where he won numerous awards and accolades, such as third-team All-American from AP and NABC in 1995 and first-team All-Big East honours three times (1993–1995).

Lawrence Moten retired from professional basketball after playing with the Mobile Revelers in 2006.

Jerami Grant was a highly rated player out of high school and Syracuse, but he only played for one season in the NBA with Philadelphia. He has spent most of his time in the NBA playing for Portland since 2016, where he is a key part of their rotation as a power forward.

Grant is averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds per game this season. Jerami Grant is a versatile forward who has played for several teams in the NBA. Grant was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014 and spent two seasons with them before joining the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016.

He then moved to Denver, where he won an MVP award as part of their team that made it to the playoffs in 2018. In 2020, he joined the Portland Trail Blazers and has been a key player on their title-challenging squad ever since. 

Grant is known for his strong defence and energetic play on offence, which has led to him being called one of the best players in the league.

Wallace was a small forward who played in the NBA for thirteen seasons. Wallace was drafted by the New York Knicks in 1996 and spent his first six years with them before moving to Toronto in 1997.

In 1999, Wallace joined the Philadelphia 76ers, where he remained until 2005. During his tenure with the 76ers and Knicks, Wallace won two championships (2000 and 2004) as well as being named an All-Star twice each.

After leaving the NBA, Wallace played overseas for a number of years before retiring in 2013 at age 38 after playing for Fort Worth Flyers of the D-League Wallace had a successful career in the NBA, playing for six different teams over 10 seasons.

Wallace was an excellent rebounder and passer, ranking among the top 25 players in both categories throughout his career. 

He was also known for being a hard worker on the court, always putting in extra effort to help his team win games. Wallace retired from professional basketball after the 2004-05 season, having played a total of 1,087 games during his ten-year career.

Dave Bing was the 74th Mayor of Detroit. He served from 2009-2013, and during that time he helped revive the city's economy while also making efforts to improve its public safety.

Bing is a well-known basketball player who won an NBA championship with the Pistons in 1988. After his playing career ended, he founded several successful businesses including AutoNation and Quicken Loans, both of which are still active today.

In 2002, Dave Bing was elected as a Michigan State Representative and served for eight years before being elected Mayor of Detroit in 2009 by a wide margin over his Republican opponent Kenneth Cockrel Jr.

On December 31, 2013, after two terms as mayor, Dave Bing resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Bing was a two-time All-NBA First Team selection and an NBA All-Star Game MVP. Bing led the Pistons to their only title in 1974, averaging 21 points and five assists per game during the season. 

He retired after the 1978 season with career averages of 21 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game over his 13-year career.

Billy Owens was a versatile small forward and shooting guard who played in the NBA for 13 seasons. Owens spent time with the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Sacramento Kings during his career.

He is best known for his time with the Miami Heat, where he helped lead them to two championships (1998 and 2003). Owens also won an Olympic gold medal as a member of Team USA in 2000. In 2001, he retired from basketball following a season with the Sacramento Kings.

Since retiring from basketball, Billy has worked as an analyst on various sport networks across America. In 2014, he published his autobiography entitled "Ageless: A Memoir of Life After Basketball." 

 Billy currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children Billy Owens was a prolific scorer and rebounder in his time with the NBA.

He averaged over 11 points per game and 6 rebounds per contest during his career, which is amazing considering he played for teams that struggled to win games on a consistent basis.

 Despite being an All-American performer at Syracuse, Owens wasn't drafted by any of the major basketball leagues due to concerns about his height. The Kings took a chance on him in 1996 and it paid off as he became one of their most important players over the next few years.

After leaving Sacramento in 1998, Owens had some success playing for Seattle and Philadelphia before joining Golden State in 2000 where he won two championships - including one MVP award. 

Owens retired from professional play following the 2003–04 season having played 17 seasons total across all five major North American leagues (NBA, ABA, WCW/NWL).

Dwayne Washington was a point guard in the NBA for over a decade. He played for the New Jersey Nets, Miami Heat, and Sacramento Kings before retiring in 1991.

Dwayne Washington is best known for his time with the Miami Heat, where he won an NBA championship in 1988. After retirement from basketball, Dwayne Washington worked as a broadcaster for TNT and ABC Sports until his death in 2016 at age 52.

Dwayne Washington was a consensus second-team All American in 1985. After being drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics with the 16th pick of the 1986 NBA draft, he played for three seasons with them before joining the Boston Celtics in 1989. 

He spent two more years playing in Boston before moving to Orlando Magic and then Miami Heat where he retired after playing one season each for both teams in 2006.

Washington has won five championships (three with Seattle SuperSonics, one with Orlando Magic and one with Miami Heat) as well as four MVP Awards and ten scoring titles during his illustrious career. 

In 2013, Dwayne was named head coach of Georgetown University's men's basketball team but resigned less than a year later citing personal reasons.

13. Gerry McNamara

Gerry McNamara is an assistant coach for Syracuse. He played guard at Syracuse from 2002-2006 and graduated in 2009 with a degree in management. 

McNamara began his coaching career as the graduate manager at Syracuse before being promoted to assistant coach in 2011.

McNamara has been involved with various aspects of basketball, including player development and scouting, since he started coaching. His experience as a player gives him valuable insight into how players develop and perform on the court, which he can pass along to his team's members.

Gerry McNamara is highly regarded within the coaching community and is considered one of the top young coaches in America Gerry McNamara began his playing career at Syracuse University. He was a three-time NCAA champion and helped lead the Orange to back-to-back national titles in 2003 and 2004.

McNamara also won the Chip Hilton Player of the Year award in 2006. After leaving SU, he played one season with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel before retiring from professional basketball in 2007. 

In 2013, McNamara was hired as an assistant coach at Syracuse University where he currently remains employed.

14. Jesse Edwards

Jesse Edwards is a center for the Syracuse Orange in the ACC. Edwards was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2000. Edwards moved to the United States when he was 5 years old and started playing basketball in middle school.

He played for Huntington Prep in West Virginia before transferring to Syracuse in 2016. Edwards averaged 4.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a freshman at Syracuse in 2016-17. In 18 games this season, Edwards has averaged 10.5 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Edwards is a key part of Syracuse's rebuilding process and is expected to be a key part of the team for years to come. Edwards was selected to the All-ACC Second Team this season.

Louis Orr was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. After high school, Orr played college basketball at Syracuse University. Orr was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the 1980 NBA Draft and played for the team for eight seasons.

Orr retired from playing in 1988 and began a coaching career with the Pacers. He served as head coach of the team from 1991 to 1992 and again from 2002 to 2002. Orr died in 2022 at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.

Louis Orr coached at Georgetown for the 2017-2022 season. Prior to coaching at Georgetown, Orr served as an assistant coach for Seton Hall, Syracuse and Bowling Green. Orr is a three-time MAC Coach of the Year and a two-time Big East Coach of the Year recipient.

Danny Schayes was born in Syracuse, New York on May 10, 1959. Schayes played collegiately at Syracuse and was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 1981 NBA Draft.

Nichols was a highly touted small forward prospect out of high school, but didn't pan out at Syracuse. He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft.

Nichols spent three seasons with the Knicks before being traded to Chicago in 2009. He spent two seasons with the Bulls before being traded to the Iowa Energy in 2011. Nichols joined the Atlanta Hawks in 2013, but was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2015.

Roosevelt Bouie was born in Kendall, New York in 1958. He attended high school at Kendall and played college basketball at Syracuse. Bouie was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1980 NBA draft and played for them for six seasons.

He was part of the Mavs' 1983 championship team and was named the MVP of the NBA Finals. Bouie later played for the Chicago Bulls and the Charlotte Hornets. He retired from playing in 1993. Roosevelt Bouie is a retired American center and was inducted into the Syracuse Hall of Fame in 2001.

Roosevelt Bouie was born in Detroit, Michigan in September 1967. Bouie attended the University of Michigan where he played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines.

Bouie was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 10th pick in the 1987 NBA Draft. Bouie played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Denver Nuggets, the Orlando Magic, and the New York Knicks during his NBA career.

Flynn was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and was selected 6th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA draft. Flynn spent three seasons with the Timberwolves before being traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in January of 2014.

Flynn spent the remainder of his career with the SuperSonics before retiring in 2015. Flynn is a two-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2011. Flynn finished his career with averages of 14.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Flynn is currently an NBA analyst for Fox Sports. Flynn is married and has two children. Flynn is a native of Niagara Falls, New York. Flynn is currently working on his first book. Flynn was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school and was one of the top players in the country.

Billy Gabor was born in 1922 in Binghamton, New York. After high school, Gabor attended Syracuse University, where he played basketball and baseball. In 1948, Gabor was drafted by the Rochester Royals in the 1948 NBA draft.

He played for the Royals for five seasons. Gabor then played for the Cincinnati Royals and the Baltimore Bullets before retiring in 1955. Gabor later worked as a basketball coach and scout. He died in 2019 at the age of 97. Billy Gabor was a point guard for Syracuse Nationals from 1948-1955.

He was a two-time Second-team All-American and a Third-team All-American. He was selected to the NBA All-Star Team in 1953 and 1955. He was the NBA champion with the Syracuse Nationals in 1955. He was also an All-Star in 1953. 

He was inducted into the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. He was retired by the Syracuse Orange in 1985.

Rafael Addison was born on July 22, 1964 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Addison attended high school at Henry Snyder in Jersey City. He then went on to play college basketball at Syracuse, where he was a two-time All-American.

In the 1986 NBA draft, Addison was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 39th overall pick. Addison played in the NBA for thirteen seasons, most notably with the Suns. He retired in 1997. In 2011, Addison was inducted into the Syracuse University Hall of Fame.

He currently works as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns. Rafael Addison is married and has two children.

Andy Rautins was a standout shooting guard at Syracuse, where he helped lead the Orange to the Final Four in 2010. Rautins was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2010 and has since played for the team in the NBA.

Leo Rautins was a high school basketball star in Toronto, and was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He played for the 76ers for three seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls.

Rudy Hackett was drafted by the New York Nets in the 1976 NBA draft. He played for the Nets, Indiana Pacers, and Reggio Emilia in the Italian League.

Preston Shumpert is an American basketball player who played for the Syracuse Orange from 1998 to 2002. After graduating from high school, Shumpert played for the Fort Walton Beach Flyers of the NAIA for two seasons before being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2002 NBA draft.

Shumpert has played for the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers in his career. Shumpert has also played for the Turkish national team and was a member of the gold medal-winning U-19 team at the World Championships in 2001.

Marty Byrnes was a high school basketball star in Pittsford, New York and went on to play college basketball for Syracuse. He was drafted in the first round of the 1978 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns and played for them for six seasons.

He later played for the New Orleans Jazz and the Boston Celtics. Marty Byrnes was a versatile small forward who was known for his scoring and shooting ability. He retired from the NBA in 1988 after playing for the Boston Celtics. Marty Byrnes is currently a basketball coach and commentator.

Fab Melo was a talented center for Syracuse who was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2012. Melo had a standout career in the NBA, averaging 12.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

He announced his retirement from the NBA in February 2017. Melo is survived by his wife and two young children. Fab Melo is a big man with a 7-foot-2 wingspan who was drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft by the Boston Celtics.

In his rookie season with the Celtics, Melo averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. In the 2013-2014 season, Melo played for the Maine Red Claws in the NBA D-League. In the 2014-2015 season, Melo signed with the Liga Sorocabana in Brazil.

James Southerland played college basketball at Syracuse and was undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft. He began his professional career with the Idaho Stampede in the NBA Development League in 2013.

He is currently playing for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA G League. James Southerland is a small forward who typically plays on the perimeter. He is known for his shooting ability, and has averaged over 17 points per game in his career.

James Southerland is a two-time NBA G League All-Star. James Southerland had a successful four-year career in the NBA Development League (D-League). Southerland was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats.

Andrew White III was born on June 16, 1993 in Richmond, Virginia. He attended The Miller School in Charlottesville, Virginia and played for the school's basketball team.

White played college basketball for Kansas and Nebraska. White was drafted by the Brisbane Bullets in the 2016 NBL Draft. White has played in the NBL for the Bullets since 2016.

White has also played for the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Sydney Kings in the NBA. White is a small forward and has played both in the frontcourt and at the 3-point line.

White is a strong and versatile player who can play multiple positions on the court. White has been a consistent performer for the Bullets, and he is one of the team's key players. 

White III was a highly rated recruit coming out of high school and was expected to be a key player for Syracuse.

However, an ankle injury ended his college career prematurely. White III has bounced around between the NBA and overseas since his draft eligibility ended, but has yet to make an impact. 

White III is a versatile player who can play both the 2 and the 3 position. White III is averaging 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in his career. White III is expected to join the Brisbane Bullets for the 2020-21 season.
