School football is a beloved sport across the United States and Canada. It brings together communities, families, and players of all ages to cheer on their favorite teams. Despite its popularity as an interscholastic sport however, participation has been declining over recent years due to safety concerns such as concussions.

This introduction will explain why school football remains popular despite these risks while highlighting both the benefits and drawbacks associated with it.

Trevor Lawrence was born on October 6, 1999, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He attended Cartersville High School where he played football and basketball. In 2018, Lawrence went to Clemson University and starred for the Tigers as a quarterback before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

Trevor has started all 16 games for the Jaguars since then and has led them to two playoff appearances so far in his career. Trevor Lawrence was the CFP National Champion Offensive MVP in 2018 and a two-time first-team All-American. 

He has an 83.1 passer rating and 7 rushing touchdowns on 628 yards this year in the NFL. Trevor is likely to be drafted number one overall in 2020 and could become one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Leonard Fournette is a powerful running back who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017.

In 2020, he signed a five-year contract with the Buccaneers and has continued to be one of their main stars over the past two seasons. Leonard Fournette was a consensus All-American in 2015 and first-team All-SEC in 2015 and 2016.

In his three seasons at LSU, he has rushed for over 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns. He is projected as a top-10 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Martez Ivey was born in Apopka, Florida on July 25th 1995. He attended high school at Apopka (FL). After graduating from high school, Martez Ivey played college football for the Florida Gators

 starting all 13 games he appeared in during his sophomore season and helping lead them to an SEC Championship Game appearance before eventually losing 46-7 against Alabama.

Despite being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2019 but not signing with them, he later signed with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League where he is currently playing as a Offensive lineman. 

Martez Ivey is a defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Vipers of the CFL. He was a two-time Second-team All-SEC player and Freshman All-SEC in his career at Tennessee.

He has also played in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Toronto Argonauts, amassing 3 sacks and 4 tackles over his brief career thus far. As an American, Martez Ivey will be playing in Canada next season before joining Edmonton Elks as their new starting DT next year.

Bennett is a senior quarterback at Georgia and a three-year starter. He was named first team All-SEC in 2019 after throwing for 3,527 yards with 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Bennett also ran for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground this season. In his college career he has completed 266 of 460 passes (60%) for 33,557 yards with 280 touchdown passes and 55 interceptions - an impressive stat line.

Bennett will be playing in his final game as a Bulldog when they take on Alabama in the Rose Bowl Game on January 2nd 2020 Bennett was the second-leading rusher in college football in both 2017 and 2022. Bennett is a two-time CFP National Champion, as well as a SEC Champion and an MVP of the SEC Championship Game.

He also won the Burlsworth Trophy in 2022, which is given to the best player in Division I FBS conferences not playing for a national championship team that year.

Nolan Smith is a senior linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a two-time all-SEC selection and led the team in tackles as a sophomore in 2018. Smith also holds several other school records, including most career sacks (15) and interceptions (5).

He has been nominated for the Butkus Award and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2017. In 2021, Nolan will join fellow Bulldog commit Alonzo Carter as one of only two players from his class to be drafted into the NFL. Nolan Smith is a 2-time CFP National Champion and Anthony Muñoz Award winner.

Nolan Smith has been a standout quarterback for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Nolan Smith led his team to a victory in the 2018 Sugar Bowl against Auburn University. 

In 2021, he led IMG Academy to another victory by beating Notre Dame in the Peach Bowl. As of 2019, Nolan Smith is currently playing college football at Mississippi State University and is expected to have an outstanding career there as well.

Charles Rogers was one of the most prolific receivers in NFL history, with 1,094 receptions for 13,934 yards and 83 touchdowns. He played his entire career with the Detroit Lions before retiring in 2007.

Charles Rogers is best known for making a spectacular catch against the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day 2003 which helped lead to a game-winning touchdown in overtime. 

Charles Rogers also made an outstanding catch during Super Bowl XLII when he caught a Hail Mary pass from Tom Brady to help New England win their fourth championship title overall.

In 2008, he became just the third player ever to be elected into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame (along with Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders). On November 11th 2019, Charles Rogers passed away at age 38 after long battle with cancer.

Dorial Green-Beckham is a former Missouri wide receiver. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. 

Dorial Green-Beckham had an impressive college career with Oklahoma, where he caught 153 passes for 2,472 yards and 20 touchdowns.

In his two seasons with the Eagles, Green-Beckham has shown flashes of brilliance but also some signs that he may not be ready to play at the professional level just yet. 

Dorial Green-Beckham comes from a football family and was one of the most highly touted prospects in college football history.

He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, but struggled to make an impact on the field and was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016. 

DGB has had some difficulty staying clean off the field, but he still possesses incredible potential as a receiver. If he can stay out of trouble and continue developing his skills, there is no doubt that DGB will be a household name within years.

Williams was a linebacker for the Miami Dolphins from 2004 to 2010. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft and played with them until he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.

Williams has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, and New Orleans Saints during his career. In 2013, Williams signed with the Oakland Raiders but only lasted one season before retiring later that year due to injury.

Williams was a standout linebacker at the University of Miami and entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in 2004. Williams quickly became one of the most versatile defenders in the league, playing both inside and outside linebacker for four seasons with Denver before signing with Chicago in 2013.

His play helped lead Chicago to two consecutive NFC North championships (2013-14), earning him first-team All-Pro honors each season and being named to two more Pro Bowls along the way. 

Injuries forced Williams into retirement after 14 NFL seasons, but he remains one of the most successful linebackers in league history thanks to his versatility on defense and durability throughout his career.

Cade Klubnik is a freshman quarterback for the Clemson Tigers. He was born on October 10, 2003 in Evansville, Indiana and he played high school football at Bishop Luers High School in South Bend, Indiana.

Klubnik made his college debut as a true freshman against Wake Forest in 2018 and started every game for the rest of that season as well as the 2019 campaign. In total, he has completed 1,768 passes for 14,542 yards with 131 touchdowns and just 46 interceptions during his time at Clemson thus far in his collegiate career.

Klubnik is considered one of the most promising young quarterbacks in America and many expect him to be drafted into the NFL after he graduates from college later this year or early next year. 

Cade Klubnik is one of the top high school football players in the country. He has been a key player for Westlake and helped them win many championships over the years.

Cade Klubnik was named USA Today Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, which is an amazing accomplishment. In 2022, he led Westlake to their first ACC Championship Game victory since 1991 and was MVP of that game. 

Cade Klubnik also won U.S Army Player of the Year Award in 2021 and this shows just how important he is to his team and community alike.

As a sophomore in 2020, Bryce Young led Alabama to their first CFP National Championship appearance ever and had one of his best seasons statistically with 3,971 passing yards along with 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 12 games played (10 starts).

Holmon Wiggins is currently an assistant head coach of Alabama's offense and wide receivers coach. He played college football at New Mexico and was a part of the 1998 NMU team that finished with a 11-1 record and was ranked No.

4 in the nation. Holmon Wiggins was drafted in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and played for them for three seasons. He spent the 2006 season with the Houston Texans and the 2007 season with the New England Patriots.

Holmon Wiggins has also spent time as an assistant coach at the collegiate level, including the offensive coordinator position at New Mexico in 2013. 

Holmon Wiggins is married and has two children. Holmon Wiggins was a running back at Illinois State and played for Tulsa in the NFL.

Wiggins was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was an All-American at Illinois State and was drafted in the fifth round by the New Mexico Saints in 2003. 

He played for the New Mexico Saints and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the NFL. He was a member of the Memphis Tigers in the NFL and played in the playoffs in 2012.

He signed with the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2016 and was a captain for the team. He was a running back and wide receiver for the Hokies and played in the ACC Championship game in 2018. 

He announced his retirement from football in 2018. Wiggins was inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

Fran Brown is a defensive backs coach for the Georgia Bulldogs. He played linebacker at Western Carolina University and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007.

Brown has been with the Bulldogs since the 2014 season, and has helped the team improve their defense each year. He is married with two children and is from Camden, New Jersey.

Brown is a 2001 graduate of Western Carolina University. Brown has coached at the college and pro levels and is currently in his sixth season as a defensive backs coach at Georgia.

Brown is a valuable member of the coaching staff and has helped the Bulldogs improve their defense each year. Fran Brown has been coaching at the college and professional level for over a decade.

Brown most recently coached at Temple as the defensive backs coach. Brown has also been a defensive back himself, playing for Paul VI and Temple. Brown's coaching experience includes working with both the defensive backs and the entire team.

Brown is known for his defensive coaching philosophy and his ability to develop players. Brown is currently the co-defensive coordinator and defensive back coach at Georgia. 

Brown is a highly respected coach in the coaching community. Brown's coaching career is continuing to grow and develop.

13. Freddie Roach

Freddie Roach is a former defensive lineman for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a three-year starter for the Tide and was a team captain his senior year.

After college, Roach played in the NFL for the New England Patriots. He spent 2006 on their practice squad before joining the Patriots' regular roster the following season.

Roach was a part of the Patriots' 2005 Super Bowl championship team. He was released by the team in 2006 and has since coached at numerous colleges. Roach is known for his expertise in coaching the defensive line.

He has worked with some of the top players in the NFL, including Tom Brady and J. J. Watt. Roach is married and has two children. He is a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame.

Freddie Roach is a successful defensive line coach and director of player development for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Roach has a long and successful coaching career, which has included stops at Alabama, Ole Miss, and South Alabama.

Roach is known for his strong work with defensive linemen and outside linebackers. Roach has led Alabama to a number of success, including back-to-back National Championship appearances. 

Roach is a highly respected coach in the coaching community and is highly sought after by colleges and NFL teams.

Robert Gillespie is a running backs coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Gillespie played college football at Florida from 1998 to 2001. After graduating from Florida, he coached at two other schools, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

He was hired by Alabama in December of 2016. Gillespie is married and has two children. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University. Gillespie is a former NFL player who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers.

He is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in business administration. Robert Gillespie is a highly respected coach in the college football world, and his Alabama team is expected to compete for a national championship in the 2018 season.

Robert Gillespie is a former running back for the Washington Redskins. He played for the team from 2002-2017, amassing over 10,000 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns. Gillespie was a two-time All-American at South Carolina and was drafted by the Redskins in the fifth round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

He played for the Redskins for 10 seasons, and was the team's primary running back for the majority of that time. Gillespie was named the team's MVP in 2006 and 2007, and was a multiple-time Pro Bowler. 

He retired from the NFL in 2017 after spending his entire career with the Redskins. Gillespie is currently the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels football team.

In his first season as head coach, Gillespie led the Tar Heels to a Division I-AA national championship. 

Gillespie has also been a head coach at Oklahoma State and West Virginia. He is considered one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, and is currently the sixth-leading rusher in league history.

Charles Kelly is a defensive coordinator with the Colorado Buffaloes. Kelly played college football at Auburn, where he was a two-time All-American and played in the 1987 Orange Bowl.

After playing in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions, Kelly began his coaching career at Jacksonville State in 1997. He spent the next four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Jacksonville State before moving on to Auburn in 2001.

Kelly was a part of the Auburn coaching staff that led the Tigers to the BCS National Championship in 2009. He was also the head coach at Colorado for the 2014 season but was fired after a 2-10 record. Kelly was named defensive coordinator with the Buffaloes in 2015.

Kelly is a member of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Kelly is married to the former Ashley Jones and they have three children.

Ja'Juan Seider is a current Co-Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach for Penn State. He played quarterback at West Virginia from 1995-1998 and helped lead the Mountaineers to a Big East title in his final season.

Seider began his coaching career as an Offensive Coordinator at Glades Central HS in 2001. He then spent three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Palm Beach Lakes HS, before joining the Penn State coaching staff in 2005.

In his six seasons at Penn State, Seider has helped the Nittany Lions win three Big Ten titles and two National Championships. He has also developed several talented quarterbacks, including Christian Hackenberg, Trace McSorley, and Trace McSorley II.

Seider is a native of Belle Glade, Florida and attended West Virginia University. He is married with three children.

Sims played linebacker for the Detroit Lions from 2006-2009. He was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2010-2013, and with the Indianapolis Colts from 2011-2014.

Sims has been the linebackers coach for the UCF Knights since 2015. Sims was drafted in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Sims played for the Dolphins for three seasons before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Robert Nkemdiche was a highly touted recruit out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. He played for Ole Miss from 2013-2015 and was a consensus All-American in his junior year.

Nkemdiche was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the team before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2018. Nkemdiche was signed by the Seattle Seahawks in March 2021.

He played in 10 games for the team before being waived in December 2021. Nkemdiche was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in May 2022. He played in all 16 games for the team in his first season and was named to the Pro Bowl. Nkemdiche was signed by the Michigan Panthers in December 2023.

Ronald Powell was born on May 14, 1991 in Riverside, California. Powell attended Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, California and played linebacker for their varsity team.

McKnight was a running back for the New York Jets from 2010-2013. McKnight was drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. McKnight had a brief stint with the San Diego Chargers in 2013.

Kevin Jones had a successful career with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. He was drafted by the Lions in the 2004 NFL Draft and played for them from 2004-2007.
