Namibia is a nation with a proud rugby tradition, having competed in five Rugby World Cups since 1999. The Namibia national rugby union team, nicknamed the Welwitschias, is a tier-two nation in the World Rugby tier system and is a force to be reckoned with.

Despite its small population, Namibia has become a major player in the rugby world, producing some of the most talented players in the game. With a passion for the game and a commitment to excellence, the Namibia national rugby union team is a formidable opponent.

Jan Adriaan Booysen is a 26-year-old number eight for the Namibia national rugby union team. He made his debut for the country in 2017 and has since played six matches, scoring two tries.

Jan is a product of Privaatskool Elnatan in Gobabis, where he also represented his school in cricket and basketball before turning to rugby union at age 18. 

In 2016, he was named as part of the Namibian Under 20 squad that competed at the Junior World Cup in Italy, helping them reach the quarterfinals stage before being eliminated by eventual champions England 29–20 on aggregate.

A hard-working player with plenty of speed and power on the attack, Jan will be looking to continue playing international rugby and qualify for next year's World Cup in Japan – one step closer to representing his home country at an elite level. 

Adriaan Booysen is a retired Namibian rugby union player. He played for the Houston Sabercats in the USA PRO Rugby competition and also represented his country at the international level.

In 2017, he announced his retirement from rugby after 15 years of competing at the highest level. Booysen is now focusing on his new career as a sports commentator and analyst for TV networks across Africa. 

He has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Pretoria in recognition of his achievements both on and off the pitch during his playing career. 

His nickname was "The Beast". He holds several records within Namibia's rugby history, including the most capped player (100) and most tries scored (38).

Damian Stevens was born on 2 June 1995 in Walvis Bay, Namibia. He attended Walvis Bay High School and then Paarl Boys' High School before joining Western Province's youth rugby union team in 2013.

In 2015, he joined the University of the West Coast (UWC) side where he played for 8 games and scored 15 points over that season. 

Damian made his senior debut for Western Province during the 2017 Currie Cup qualification campaign and has since gone on to make 24 appearances for them across all competitions including 6 starts this year in their Super Rugby campaign so far.

Damian Stevens is a talented rugby player who represents the Western Province side. Damian has represented Namibia at the under-20 level and has been impressive in this tournament so far, scoring five tries in four games. 

Damian is likely to be one of the key players for the Western Province side as they look to consolidate their position at the top of South Africa's domestic league table.

With his powerful running and accurate passing, Damian can create opportunities for others on the field, making him an important part of any team he plays for. 

Damien is also a hardworking back-rower and will ensure that his forwards are well supported when they need it most – which could prove crucial during matches against tougher opposition later in the season.

3. Kees Lensing

Kees Lensing was born in Keetmanshoop, Namibia on 1 June 1978. He played prop for Castres from 2001 to 2010 and amassed over 200 appearances for the club.

Kees retired from rugby union after playing his final match for Castres against Racing 92 in October 2010. 

In between his spell at Castres, he also represented Namibia internationally and won a silver medal at the 2003 World Cup in Australia as well as two Africa Championship medals (in 2000 and 2002).

After retiring from rugby, Kees started working as a civil engineer but now works as an event planner specializing in rugby tournaments and events worldwide. 

In 2009, he married fellow professional Rugby player Sonja van der Walt; they have one child together named Hendrikus ("Koos"). Kees Lensing is a retired Namibian rugby player who represented his country in 24 international matches.

After retiring from playing, Kees took up coaching as he felt that the game was an important part of developing young athletes and helping them build character. 

He has coached Rugby United New York (RUNA) in the USA since 2018 and helped the team to win back-to-back National Championship titles in 2020 and 2021. Kees is also the head coach of Seattle Seawolves, which competes in Major League Rugby (MLR).

The Seawolves are one of only two franchises from North America currently competing in MLR. In recognition of his achievements both on and off the pitch, Kees was named Coach Of The Year for MLR's inaugural season in 2019

4. Cliven Loubser

Cliven Loubser is a rugby union player who currently plays for the Namibia national team. He was born in Rehoboth, Namibia and attended Windhoek Gymnasium.

In 2017, he helped his country to qualify for the Rugby World Cup 2019 tournament by winning their qualifying campaign. Cliven has been playing at club level since 2016, when he joined RC Toulonnais in France's Top 14 competition as a teenager.

Although primarily a centre or fly-half, Cliven can also play as a full back or on the wing if need be; this versatility makes him an important part of any side he features in. 

In 2018/19 season with RC Toulonnais, Loubser made 11 appearances scoring 2 tries including being named French Player of The Season runner up behind Racing 92’s Timoci Nagusa.

On 3 September 2019 it was announced that Cliven had signed for English Premiership side Bristol Bears on a three-year deal from 2020/21 season onwards after impressing during trials with them earlier that month Cliven Loubser is a fly-half who currently plays for UP Tuks. 

He made his first-team debut in 2017 and has since gone on to play 15 matches for the Namibian national team, scoring 159 points in the process.

Cliven was born in South Africa but moved to Namibia as a child and started playing rugby there before moving up to the provincial level. 

He has represented Eastern Province at youth levels and Sharks U21s during his career thus far, impressing with his accuracy from distance and flair with the ball in hand. 

With age on his side, Cliven hopes to represent Namibia at the international level for many years to come and continue developing as one of Africa's most promising talents Rugby Union wise.

5. Wian Conradie

Wian Conradie was born in Windhoek, Namibia on October 14th 1994. He began playing rugby union at the age of 12 and has since played for several amateur teams including UJ.

In 2019 he joined the senior side Welwitschias and made his debut against Blue Bulls in Pretoria a few weeks later. Wian is primarily a flanker but can also play as an outside centre or number 8 if needed.

His main strength seems to be his speed and agility which allows him to get past defenders easily; this has seen him score some crucial tries for Welwitschias during his time with the team so far.

Although he only started playing rugby seriously about two years ago, Wian looks like he could have a long and successful career ahead of him; we will keep an eye out for future performances from this talented young player.

Wian Conradie is a gifted footballer who has represented his country at under-20 level. He was born in South Africa, but moved to the UK as a child and played for Doncaster Knights before joining Dallas Jackals in 2016. 

In 2018, he signed for Gloucester City and helped them win promotion to the English Premier League. He has been described as an attacking midfielder with great technical ability and ball control; this makes him very difficult to defend against on the ground or from set pieces.

His career looks promising and he will be looking to continue his good form in the Premier League this season.

Jacques Burger began his rugby union career with the Wildeklawer Griquas in 2005. He represented Aurillac in the French Top 14 from 2007 to 2008, and then Blue Bulls in the Pro14 from 2008 to 2010.

He made his debut for the Saracens in the 2010–11 season, and went on to play for them for six seasons before joining the Griquas in 2016. Jacques Burger is a flanker, and is known for his powerful running and kicking skills.

He is a three-time South African Rugby Union Player of the Year, and was also named in the World Rugby Team of the Year in 2016. Jacques Burger is married to actress Charlize Theron, and they have two children. He is currently retired from rugby union, but is considering a return to the game.

Eugene Jantjies is a scrum-half currently playing for Welwitschias. He has represented Western Suburbs and Western Province in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup, respectively.

Jantjies is a versatile player who can play at either scrum-half or fly-half, and is known for his kicking skills. Jantjies made his international debut for South Africa in 2007, and has since appeared in 46 Tests and 29 Rugby World Cup matches.

Johann Tromp was born in Windhoek, Namibia in 1990. He attended Windhoek Technical High School and played rugby union for their rugby union team. He then attended the University of Pretoria, where he played for the university's rugby union team.

He joined the English side ETA Sport Conditioning in 2013 and played for them in the RFU Championship and the Anglo-Welsh Cup. He made his international debut for Namibia in 2015 and played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. He was named in the Namibian squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

He retired from rugby union in 2017 to focus on his professional career. He is currently signed to the Japanese side Toyota Verblitz. Johann Tromp is married and has two children.

J. C. Greyling was born on 21 June 1991 in Okahandja, Namibia. He started playing rugby union when he was at school and has since played for several clubs including Falcons and Old Wesley.

He has represented Namibia at youth level, and made his senior debut in 2012. He is currently a centre for the Southern Kings in the Pro14. Greyling is a hard-working player who is known for his strong defence and accurate passing.

Van Lill is a lock and has been described as a very physical player. He has also featured for South Africa at under-19, under-20 and senior level. Van Lill is currently contracted to Aviron Bayonnais until the end of the 2019 season.

He is a member of the Namibia national team and has played at both the under-20 and senior level. Van Lill is married and has two children. 

He is a keen outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing and mountain biking. Van Lill is a very popular player with the Aviron Bayonnais fans and has been named captain for the 2019 season.

Johan Deysel is a Namibian rugby union player who currently plays for Colomiers in the Top 14. Deysel has represented Namibia at youth level, and made his senior debut in 2011.

TC Kisting is a 29-year-old scrum-half who currently plays for Dinamo București in the Romanian Superliga. He has played for the team since 2014, and has appeared in 50 games over that time.

Theuns Kotzé is a utility back who has played for Griquas and Leopards in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup. Kotzé is a product of Upington High School and North West University.

Louis van der Westhuizen is a Namibian rugby union player who currently plays for the Cheetahs in the Pro14 competition. He made his professional debut for the Leopards in 2014 and was a regular in the side until 2016.

Van der Westhuizen represented Namibia at youth level before making his debut for the country in 2008. He has also played for the Leopards' Amateur team. Van der Westhuizen is a hooker and is known for his strong scrummaging ability.

Johan Retief was born in Windhoek, Namibia on 10 October 1995. Retief began playing rugby union at Windhoek Gymnasium and made his provincial debut for Griquas in the 2018 Currie Cup.

Retief has represented Namibia at U20, U21 and U23 levels. Retief is a lock and has been described as "hard-working and brutally effective in the tackle". Retief is contracted to Griquas until the end of the 2020 season.

Retief is a regular member of the Namibia national team, having made his debut in 2018. Retief is an important part of the Griquas team, and is expected to feature in the 2019 Currie Cup. Retief is married and has two children.

Retief started playing football at an early age and was quickly spotted by scouts from various clubs. After impressing in trials, Retief was signed by top-flight club, Ajax Cape Town, in 2016. Retief made his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2016–17 season.

He quickly became a regular in the starting XI and was awarded the Ajax Cape Town Player of the Year award in 2017. Retief was signed by Premier League side, Liverpool, in January 2018. 

 He made his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League. Retief played a key role in Liverpool's successful Europa League campaign, scoring in the quarter-finals against FC Ufa.

Retief was released by Liverpool in May 2018. He has since signed for newly-promoted side, Griquas.

Renaldo Bothma was born on 18 September 1989 in Alberton, South Africa. He is 1.90 metres tall and weighs 105 kilograms. Renaldo began playing rugby union in 2006, when he joined the Golden Lions youth team.

In 2010, he made his debut for the Golden Lions senior team. He has played for the Leopards since 2011. Renaldo has scored 10 points in 7 games for the Golden Lions and 5 points in 6 games for the Leopards. Renaldo is a flanker, and is currently playing for the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup.

Rudie van Vuuren is a former bowler for Namibia. He made his international debut in a 13-cap match against Pakistan in 2003. Van Vuuren retired from international cricket in 2004, having taken 49 wickets in 13 matches.

After his cricketing career, Van Vuuren has worked as a coach in Namibia. Van Vuuren has two children and lives in Windhoek. Van Vuuren is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler. Van Vuuren is currently the bowling coach for the Namibian national cricket team.

Van Vuuren is a popular figure in Namibia and is often seen out and about, enjoying his time with friends and family. Van Vuuren will be a part of the Namibian cricket team at the Twenty20 World Cup in England this year. 

Rudie van Vuuren is a left-handed wicket-keeper-batsman who represents South Africa in international cricket.

Van Vuuren made his first-class debut for Western Province in the 2010–11 season and has since played for the Cape Town Blitz, Lions, and Dolphins. 

He made his international debut for South Africa in January 2017 and has since played in five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 21 matches in the List A format.

Casper Viviers was born on 1 June 1988 in Windhoek, South West Africa. He is a prop and has played for Welwitschias in the Pro14 competition. Casper Viviers has represented Namibia at youth level and has made nine appearances for the senior side.

Pieter Willem Steenkamp is a 25-year-old fly-half and fullback who currently plays for Welwitschias in the Southern Hemisphere Rugby League. Steenkamp was born in Mariental, Namibia, in 1997 and played rugby union for Privaatskool Elnatan before joining Welwitschias in 2016.

Steenkamp has represented Namibia at under-16, under-18, and under-20 levels and was a part of the side that won the 2015 African U-20 Championship.

Corne Powell is a Namibian rugby union player who has played for the Namibia national team since 1997. Powell has also played for the Southern Kings in the Super Rugby competition in South Africa.

He has played in the World Cup in 2003 and 2007, as well as the African Cup of Nations in 2004 and 2007. In 2008, he retired from international rugby to take up a coaching role with the Southern Kings.

He returned to international rugby in 2010, and has since played for the Namibia national team in the 2013, 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Powell has also played for the Harlequins in the English Premiership.

Janry du Toit was born in 1996 in Aranos, Namibia. He started playing rugby union at a young age and has since played for a number of teams in his home country, including Peñarol.

Du Toit has been capped at junior level by Namibia and made his senior international debut in 2016. The centre has been a regular in Peñarol's first team over the past two seasons and is currently their leading point scorer.

Prince ǃGaoseb was born on July 7th, 1998 in Omaruru, Namibia. Prince ǃGaoseb is a flanker and played for Windhoek High School in Namibia. Prince ǃGaoseb has represented Namibia at under-20 and under-23 level, and played for the Namibia national team in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Prince ǃGaoseb is currently playing for French side Racing 92 in the Top 14. Prince ǃGaoseb is the son of former Namibian rugby union captain and coach, ǃRoland ǃGaoseb. 

Prince ǃGaoseb has a sister, ǃNatalie ǃGaoseb, who is also a rugby union player. Prince ǃGaoseb is a keen footballer and has represented Namibia at under-17 and under-20 level.

Richard Hardwick was born on 31 May 1994 in Windhoek, Namibia. He is 1.83 m tall and weighs 102 kg. He played for UWA in 2011 and was promoted to the senior team in 2012.

Gerhard Mans was born in 1962 in South West Africa (now Namibia) and died in 2022 at the age of 60. He was a goalkeeper and defender who played for Wennie du Plessis' Gobabis side, University of the Free State and Namibia.

He represented Namibia at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Mans also played for clubs such as Ajax Cape Town, Hercules, Willem II and Feyenoord. He retired in 2001. Mans is survived by his wife and two children.

In 2003, he was named Namibia's sportsman of the year. He was inducted into the Namibia Football Association Hall of Fame in 2006. Mans was named the Namibia Football Association's ambassador for the 2014 World Cup. Gerhard Mans was born in 1982 in South Africa.

He started playing rugby union in 1985 and quickly became a regular for the South West Africa team. In 1990, he was called up to the Namibia national team and went on to make 27 appearances. After his rugby career ended, Gerhard started working as a physical education teacher.

He is married and has two children. He is still involved in rugby, coaching younger players and helping to run a rugby camp. Gerhard Mans is a veteran of the international stage and is still playing at a high level. He is a hard-working player and is always looking to improve his game.

Johnny Redelinghuys was born on 7 February 1984 in Windhoek, Namibia. Redelinghuys first played rugby union at a young age, and represented his country at Under-18, Under-19, and Under-21 level.

He made his professional debut in 2006 with Western Province, and has since played for the Stormers, Blues, and Sharks. Redelinghuys has won two Super Rugby titles (with the Stormers in 2007 and the Sharks in 2011) and two Currie Cup titles (with the Blue Bulls in 2009 and the Bulls in 2013).

Redelinghuys has also represented Namibia in international rugby, appearing in 34 tests and scoring 10 tries. In 2013, Redelinghuys was named captain of the Sharks, and led them to their first Super Rugby title in 2016. In 2018, Redelinghuys announced his retirement from rugby at the age of 38.

Redelinghuys is currently the joint-second highest points scorer in Super Rugby history, with 261 points. Johnny Redelinghuys is a rugby union superstar, and is well-known for his powerful play and captaining skills. He is a true legend of the sport.

Jaco Engels was born on 17 December 1980 in Oranjemund, South West Africa. Engels played rugby union for the Leopards and the Pumas in his youth, and later had a successful senior career with the Sharks.

Engels played prop for the Sharks from 2001 to 2010, scoring 33 tries in 176 appearances. In 2010, Engels joined the Bulls, and he played for them until the end of the 2016 season. Engels has also represented South Africa at international level, playing in the 2006, 2007, and 2009 IRB World Cups.

In April 2017, Engels announced his retirement from rugby union. Engels is the father of two children. Jaco Engels is a rugby union commentator for South African television.

Tjiuee Uanivi was born in Otjiwarongo, Namibia in 1990. He started playing rugby union in 2009, when he joined United Rugby Club. Uanivi made his debut for Namibia in 2012, at the age of just 18.

Uanivi has played for France's Brive and Glasgow Hawks in the professional era. Uanivi is currently a lock for US Montauban in the PRO14. Tjiuee is a key member of the Namibian national team, and has represented his country at both the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Uanivi is known for his hard work and strong defence, which has seen him earn praise from his peers and coaches. Uanivi is married and has two children. 

In his spare time, Tjiuee enjoys playing golf and watching rugby union. Tjiuee Uanivi is a powerful scrumhalf who has been playing in the French Top 14 for the last few seasons.

John Drotsky is a rugby union player who plays for the Western Force in the Australian Rugby Union competition. Drotsky began his rugby union career with the Western Force in 2007.

He has made 101 appearances for the Force, including 50 in the Super Rugby competition. In 2013, Drotsky was selected in the Wallabies squad for their tour of Europe. He made his debut against Scotland on 25 February 2013 and played the whole of the match.

On 11 November 2013, Drotsky was selected in the Wallabies squad for their match against Wales. He played the whole of the match, scoring a try.

Aranos Coetzee is a prop for the Free State Cheetahs in the Super Rugby competition. He played for Western Province in the Currie Cup and Leopards in the Vodacom Cup before turning professional in 2008.

Alcino Izaacs is a 29-year-old winger and fullback who was born in Windhoek, Namibia. Alcino Izaacs played rugby union for Namib High School in Swakopmund and made his international debut for the Namibia national team in 2017.

Allister Coetzee is a rugby union player who has played for Eastern Province and South Africa. He has also coached Eastern Province and Emerging Springboks.

Nelius Theron was born on January 29th, 1997 in Windhoek, Namibia. He attended Tsumeb Gymnasium and played rugby union for the Leopards. He is 1.86 metres tall and weighs 245 kilograms.

He has represented Namibia at both U19 and U21 level. He has made one appearance for the Namibian national team, in a 2017 Africa A-Division match against Ghana. Nelius Theron is currently a prop for the Leopards.

Phil Davies is a Welsh rugby union player and lock. He has played for Llanelli RFC and Wales since 1985, and has been a member of the national team since 1985.

Kazombiaze is a professional rugby union player who has played for the Leicester Tigers and the Harlequins in England. He was born in 1979 in Uamazuwaka, Tanzania and played rugby union for local clubs before joining the Leicester Tigers in 2003.

Kazombiaze made his international debut for Tanzania in 2001 and played at the 2003 and 2007 World Cups. He joined Harlequins in January 2011 and played for them until the end of the 2013-14 season. Kazombiaze retired from rugby after the end of the season and moved to Australia to live.
