The Iowa Cubs are a minor league baseball team based in Des Moines, Iowa. The team competes in the Pacific Coast League and serves as the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Founded in 1969, the team has been the long-time affiliate of the Chicago Cubs dating back to 1981.

The Iowa Cubs play their home games at Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Since their founding, the Iowa Cubs have won two Pacific Coast League championships in 1993 and 2008. The team is known for their exciting and competitive style of play, attracting fans from all over the Midwest and beyond.

Victor Caratini was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a free agent in December of 2017. He made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs on September 1, 2018 and recorded his first career hit two days later against the Los Angeles Angels.

After making just one appearance for the Cubs in 2019, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers ahead of the season's second half. In 128 games played between both teams, Caratini has batted .230 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.

Albert Almora Jr. was born on April 16, 1994 in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. He attended Coral Gables Senior High School where he played for the baseball team and helped lead them to a state championship his senior year.

Almora was drafted by the Cubs in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft with the 17th overall pick and made his debut with them in 2016. 

Injuries have been an issue for him throughout his career but he has still managed to produce at a high level when healthy, hitting .259 with 33 home runs over 4 seasons so far.

His contract expired after the 2020 season and it is uncertain whether or not he will be able to continue playing at this high of a level due to injury concerns but if he can stay on the field then there is no doubt that he will be one of Major League Baseball's top players in years to come.

5. Matt Mervis

Matt Mervis is a relief pitcher who has played for the Chicago Cubs since 2022. Mervis was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 31st round of the 2018 MLB Draft, but chose to go play college baseball at Iowa.

In his two seasons with Iowa, he finished third and second in strikeouts respectively, earning him a selection to USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team in 2020. 

After being drafted by the Cubs, Mervis made his professional debut with their Rookie-level AZL team before making his major league debut later that season against Milwaukee Brewers.

He appeared in 17 games as a rookie and posted an 8-2 record with 9 saves and 2 holds while striking out 27 batters over 33 innings pitched. Matt Mervis is a 24-year-old first baseman who was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
