The Houston Roughnecks are a new professional American football team based in the home of Texas, Houston. The franchise is part of the XFL founded by Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment and will be playing their home games at TDECU Stadium.

It promises to bring an exciting brand of football to fans that combines top-tier talent with innovative rules designed for fast action and high scoring. DeMarquis Gates was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He played college football at Ole Miss and spent his first two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Memphis Express in 2019.

In 2020, Gates joined the Houston Roughnecks where he led the team with 102 tackles and 2 interceptions during their inaugural season in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). 

DeMarquis Gates is currently a linebacker for the Chicago Bears Gates was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Gates played college football at Stanford University, where he helped lead his team to a berth in the College Football Playoff National Championship game in 2018. 

Gates has experience playing both wide receiver and defensive back for the Vikings and is expected to compete for a starting role on offense this season. 

In addition to his on-field skills, Gates is also known for his philanthropic work – most notably with The DeMarquis Gates Foundation, which helps support education and health initiatives across multiple continents.

Walker was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2017 but did not sign with them. Walker then signed with the Houston Roughnecks in 2020 and has since led their offense to success.

Walker is set to make his debut for the Carolina Panthers in 2021, where he will look to help lead them to victory on Sundays. Phillip Walker is a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.

Phillips was undrafted in 2018 but signed with the Carolina Panthers. Phillips played for the Buffalo Bills and Houston Roughnecks in 2018 before signing with the Argonauts in 2020.

Phillips has made a total of 37 catches for 443 yards and two touchdowns during his career. Phillips is a versatile receiver who can also play on special teams.

Which could be an advantage for the Argonauts as they attempt to make it back to the playoffs this season Phillips was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the third round of the 2020 CFL Draft.

In his rookie season, Phillips recorded 54 receptions for 712 yards and six touchdowns. Phillips has been a consistent contributor in each of his four seasons with the Ticats, recording at least 50 catches and 600 receiving yards every year since joining the team in 2020. 

Phillips is one of only three players to have over 1,000 receiving yards in each of their first four seasons with a single CFL team (the others being Mike Tolkin and Derel Walker).

He is also one of just two players to record over 100 receptions and 10 touchdown passes during their career with Hamilton (joining quarterback Jeremiah Masoli).

Kony Ealy was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the team before being traded to New England in 2017. Ealy signed a contract with the Jets earlier this year and has played well thus far in 2018.

Kony Ealy was drafted with the 10th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Missouri and recorded 102 tackles, 15 sacks, six forced fumbles and one interception over his four-year career. 

Ealy made his professional debut with Carolina in Week 7 of the 2014 season and registered two tackles before being waived on September 2nd.

He was signed to the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad where he spent three weeks before being promoted to their active roster for a game against Arizona on October 14th. 

In that game, he collected nine total tackles (six solo) as Seattle won 23–17 in overtime thanks to an 88-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Jimmy Graham who beat Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson for the catch.

The following week against Minnesota, Ealy had seven Total tackle (five solo), including 1½ sacks which gave him career highs in both categories as Seattle lost 42–14. 

Kony then started 11 games for Seattle over his final two seasons (2015 & 2016) registering 71 Total tackles (42 solo), 12 ½ sacks (. 5 tied w/ Bruce Irvin), five forced fumbles and one interception while starting all 16 games during those campaigns.

Kony Edward "KONY" Ealy is an American football defensive end who plays for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). 

He played college football at Missouri where he was named First Team All-SEC after recording 102 total tackles, 15 sacks, six forced fumbles and one interception over his 4 years playing linebacker/defensive end hybrid role.

Connor Cook was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played for the Oakland Raiders until he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2018.

Connor Cook has been with two other teams, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions, since then. He is currently a free agent and has not yet signed with any team for 2019 season.

Connor Cook was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played for Michigan State University where he finished with a record of 66-7 as a starter and won two Big Ten Championships (2013, 2014).

Connor Cook was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and started 14 games for them before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in September 2016. 

In his first season with Seattle, Connor Cook led them to their first ever Super Bowl victory against Atlanta Falcons while also winning MVP award.

After one more year with Seattle, he was traded again this time to Oakland who were looking to rebuild after multiple poor seasons including finishing last in AFC West.

Deatrick Nichols was drafted by the Houston Roughnecks in 2020 but did not sign with them. He then signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2020 and played for them until he was released at the end of the season.

Nichols is a cornerback who stands tall at 5'10", weighing 189 pounds. His athleticism has led him to be drafted by multiple teams, including Arizona Cardinals and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but it's his size that may make him stand out even more on Canadian soil next season.

Nichols has experience playing both cornerbacks and safeties which could give him an edge over other players vying for a spot on the roster next year. 

The 28-year-old will have plenty of competition to show what he can do when training camp begins, but if everything goes according to plan, he may earn himself a starting spot early on in his career in Canada.

7. Gabe Wright

Gabe Wright was a four-year starter at Auburn and finished his career with 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two interceptions. He signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and played in 12 games that season recording three tackles but no sacks or interceptions.

The next year he became a starter for the Lions and had 46 tackles, one sack and one interception before being traded to Washington midway through the 2018 season where he has started all 16 games this year recording 56 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception.

Gabe Wright is known for being extremely physical on defense which will likely be a great asset to whichever team drafts him in April's NFL Draft Gabe Wright was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. 

Gabe Wright played college football at Vanderbilt University where he earned All-SEC honors as a senior and was also named to the Associated Press All-America team.

Gabe Wright has been primarily used as a defensive lineman, but has also seen time on special teams and at linebacker in his career so far with Cleveland. In 2018, Wright signed with the Miami Dolphins who released him shortly after during final cuts before.

Week 1 of the season due to injury concerns stemming from offseason surgery on his foot/ankle joint.

The Oakland Raiders claimed him off waivers later that week and he ended up starting 13 games for them over the course of the year recording 54 tackles (41 solo), 2 sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, and 5 passes defensed - earning first team all pro accolades.

On March 14th 2019 it was announced that Gabe Wright had signed a two year contract extension with Oakland which will keep him there until 2020.

Last season saw Gabe sign with Arena Football League side Houston Roughnecks where he played 8 games recording 39 tackles (27 solo) along with 1 sack & 2 interceptions.

Rivers was a standout linebacker at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He played college football for the Bulldogs from 2015-2017, before transferring to Mississippi State in 2018.

Rivers finished his career with 176 tackles and 10 sacks over three seasons with the Bulldogs. After not being drafted in 2020, Rivers signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) as a free agent on February 20th, 2021.

In four AAF seasons, Rivers has recorded 253 total tackles and 12 sacks while playing alongside some of the best players in professional football such as Tony Jefferson and Dee Ford Jr.. Rivers is a versatile player who can play both wide receiver and cornerback.

He was second on the team in interceptions with four, while also leading the Ravens in passes defended (14). Rivers has been a key cog for Baltimore as they have made it to back-to-back AFC North titles.

Johnny Maxey was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016 but never played a game for them. He then signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2018 and has been playing well so far this season.

Johnny Maxey is an excellent defensive end who can really impact games when he gets onto the field. His career highlights include winning two Super Bowls as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and being named to three Pro Bowls during his time there too.

Johnny Maxey will be an important part of the Tennessee Titans team for many years to come, and fans are sure to enjoy watching him play. 

Johnny Maxey is a rookie linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and played collegiately at the University of Memphis. Johnny Maxey has had a rough go of it so far in his NFL career, accumulating just one tackle and no sacks through four games this season.

However, with potential to develop into an effective player down the line, there's still plenty of upside for Johnny Maxey in the future. Look for him to make more contributions as he gets more experience in the league - particularly if injuries strike on either side of the ball again soon.

Beniquez Brown is a linebacker for the Houston Gamblers of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2016, but did not sign with them.

Brown played college football at Mississippi State. As a senior in 2015, he recorded 125 total tackles, 10 sacks and two interceptions. After going unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft, Brown signed with the Gamblers ahead of their inaugural season in AAF.

In 12 games this season, he has registered 61 tackles and one interception. Brown is scheduled to appear in his final game for Houston on December 16 against the Orlando Apollos Beniquez Brown is a cornerback for the Green Bay Packers. 

He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and played in all 16 games that season, recording 23 tackles, 1 sack and 2 interceptions.

Beniquez Brown attended Birmingham Southern College before transferring to Florida International University prior to his rookie year in the NFL. At FIU, he recorded 85 tackles (64 solo), 3 interceptions, 10 pass defenses and 5 sacks over two seasons. 

The 6-foot-1, 190lb corner has experience playing both man coverage and zone coverage in the NFL; making him well prepared for any given situation on Sundays come game time.

11. Nick James

Nick James was born in Long Beach, Mississippi on July 24th 1993. He played college football at Mississippi State and started all 13 games as a sophomore in 2012 before being suspended for the 2013 season after testing positive for marijuana use.

James entered the 2014 NFL Draft but was not drafted due to his suspension. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent and made the team's roster out of training camp that year. 

After playing in 14 games over two seasons with Tampa Bay (2015-2016), James was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in August 2017 where he spent one season before being released by Dallas in May 2018.

Nick has since re-signed with the New Orleans Saints and is currently their starting defensive tackle Nick James is an Undrafted player who made the move to the CFL this year. 

He started his career in Saskatchewan but has since played for Birmingham and Albany in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Nick James is a big, physical receiver with good speed and leaping ability. His game relies heavily on getting open deep downfield, which he did very well during his time in the CFL this year.

With more experience at the pro level, there's no doubt that Nick James will only continue to improve as a footballer over time - making him one of the most promising newcomers to professional football in recent years.

Elijah Qualls was born on February 11, 1995 in Petaluma, California. He attended Casa Grande High School before playing college football at Washington. After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but only played one game for them before being released midway through the season.

He then spent time with both the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens before signing a three-year deal with Houston Roughnecks in 2019. 

Elijah is currently a nose tackle for Houston and has made several big plays during his career so far including two sacks this year alone. Elijah Qualls is a rookie linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He played college football at Washington. Elijah Qualls was selected by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Elijah Qualls had an impressive collegiate career, earning First Team All-Pac-12 accolades in 2016 and Second Team honors in 2017. 

While playing for Washington Huskies The 23-year old will be looking to make an impact with his team this season, as he looks to help lead Tampa Bay back to prominence after a disappointing 2018 campaign which saw them finish last in their divisional standings and miss out on playoff action for just the second time since 2003/2004 season.

Elijah Qualls is a versatile linebacker who can play either inside or outside linebacker positions - giving him plenty of potential to succeed both on defence and special teams should he see game time during his rookie campaign.

Sammie Coates was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played for the Cleveland Browns in 2017, and then the Houston Texans in 2018.

Coates has recorded over 1,000 yards receiving in each of his three NFL seasons. Sammie Coates was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In his four seasons with the Ravens, Coates had a total of 129 receptions for 2,062 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2018, Coates was traded to the Chiefs and had a total of 87 receptions for 1,318 yards and six touchdowns. Coates is a dynamic receiver who is capable of making big plays down the field. In 2019, Coates was suspended for four games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy.

Coates is a key part of the Kansas City Chiefs' offense and should be a top receiver in the league for years to come.

Andre Williams was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York. Williams attended Parkland High School before playing college football at Boston College. Williams was drafted by the New York Giants in the 2014 NFL Draft, and spent two seasons with the team.
