Grimsby Town Football Club is one of England’s oldest and most storied clubs. Founded in 1878, the club has seen a century of highs and lows, from winning the Third Division North title in 1947-48 to the struggles of relegation from the Football League in 2010.

The Mariners, as they are known, have continued to fight for their place in the Football League and have recently re-captured their League status after winning the 2022 National League Play-Off Final.

Justin Whittle is a centre back who has played for Celtic and Manchester United. He was born in 1971 in Derby, England and began his senior career with Celtic in 1994.

He made over 100 appearances for the Scottish club before joining Manchester United in 2003 where he spent six years playing 125 games and scoring five goals. After leaving Old Trafford, Justin joined Championship side Reading on a one-year contract in June 2017.

In November 2018, it was announced that Justin had retired from professional football at the age of 51 due to injury.[2] Justin Whittle was born on December 9, 1981 in Stoke-on-Trent.

He started his career at local club Stoke City before moving to Hull City in 1998 where he made 79 appearances and scored one goal. In 2004, Justin moved to Grimsby Town where he would make 131 appearances and score three goals before leaving for Harrogate Town in 2008. 

After just over a year with Harrogate Town, Justin joined North Ferriby United on a free transfer in 2009 and spent two seasons there making 47 appearances and scoring two goals. On May 1st 2011, Justin took over as caretaker manager of North Ferriby United after the previous manager left the club early due to personal reasons.

Omar Hanif Bogle is a 29-year-old English striker who currently plays for Newport County. Omar started his career at West Bromwich Albion before moving to Birmingham City in 2009.

He spent two seasons with the Blues, scoring 16 goals in 73 appearances. In 2011, Omar joined Celtic and made an immediate impact, netting 17 times in 43 matches over two years with the Scottish club.

On 1 July 2016, it was announced that Bogle had signed for League One side Newport County on a three-year contract. 

The forward has since scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for Newport County and helped them secure promotion to League Two as champions at the end of the 2017–18 season.

Born into a Muslim family, Omar made headlines after he refused to shake hands with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho during their Premier League match on 13 December 2018 due to what he saw as Mourinho's treatment of players from ethnic minorities.

Michael Boulding began his career at Doncaster Rovers, before moving to Mansfield Town. He was prolific during his time at Mansfield, scoring 35 goals in 115 appearances.

After leaving Mansfield, Boulding had a brief spell with Grimsby Town before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2002. He spent six years with the Owls and helped them win promotion to the Premier League in 2006–07.

In June 2009, Boulding joined Championship club Reading on a free transfer after being released by Sheffield Wednesday following their relegation from the Premier League that season. 

Following Reading's relegation from the Championship in 2011–12, Boulding signed for Blackpool on loan until January 2013 but he failed to make an impact and left the Seasiders later that year without making another appearance for them.

On 9 July 2014, Michael Boulding announced his retirement from professional football after 13 seasons playing professionally.

Danny Collins is a former English footballer who played as a centre back and left back. Collins made his senior debut with Chester City in 1996, and went on to play for Buckley Town, Mold Alexandra, and Sunderland.

Clive Mendonca was born on September 9th, 1968 in Islington, London, England. He started his career with Arsenal, where he made over 175 appearances, scoring 39 goals.

He then moved to Middlesbrough, where he made over 100 appearances and scored 38 goals. He then moved to Liverpool, where he made over 200 appearances and scored 109 goals.

He then moved to Aston Villa, where he made over 150 appearances and scored 53 goals. He then moved to Chelsea, where he made over 150 appearances and scored 36 goals. He then retired from professional football in 2006.

He then started his coaching career at Chelsea, where he has been the assistant manager since 2007. He was appointed manager of Championship side Fulham in December 2016, but was sacked in February 2017. Mendonca was a midfielder who played for Sheffield United and Grimsby Town in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He was a key part of the Blades' promotion campaign in 1988 and also helped Grimsby to reach the FA Cup semi-finals that same year. 

Mendonca was born in Guinea and played for Guinea in the 1984 African Cup of Nations. Mendonca moved to England in the early 1980s and played for several lower league clubs before joining Sheffield United.

He made his debut for the Blades in 1986 and went on to make 135 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals. Mendonca joined Grimsby Town in 1992 on a loan deal and went on to make 57 appearances and score 10 goals for the Mariners. 

He was later transferred to Charlton Athletic in 1997 and played 96 times for the Addicks, scoring 45 goals.

Mendonca retired from football in 2002 after playing for Charlton Athletic and Grimsby Town. Mendonca has since worked as a coach at Sheffield United and Grimsby Town Academy. Mendonca is currently the assistant coach of the Guinea national team.

Groves began his career at Derby County, playing for the club for nearly two decade. He made his Leicester City debut in 1988 and went on to play 16 games for the club.

He spent two seasons on loan at Lincoln City before joining the club permanently in 1990. Groves made over 200 appearances for Leicester City, winning the League Cup in 1992.

He left the club in 1995 and spent two seasons at Wimbledon before retiring from football. Groves has since worked as a football coach at various clubs. He rejoined Leicester City as a coach in 2014.

Groves was inducted into the Leicester City Hall of Fame in 2016. He is currently a coach at Premier League side West Ham United. Groves began his managerial career at Grimsby Town in 2001. He was appointed manager of Portsmouth in 2009, but was sacked after just eight months in the role.

He then had a brief stint as caretaker manager of AFC Bournemouth in 2012. Groves was appointed assistant manager of Gloucester City in 2020. He will be in charge of NorthEast United for the 2022 season.

Steve Livingstone is a retired English footballer who played as a forward. He spent most of his career playing in the Football League. He is best known for his time with Coventry City, where he won the League Cup in 1995.

He also played for Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, and Bolton Wanderers. He retired in 2003. He has since worked as a football coach. He has two children. He is a fan of Middlesbrough and the England national team. He has been married to his wife since 1989.

Steve Livingstone began his senior career with Coventry City in 1986. He spent time with Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea before joining Port Vale on loan in 1993. Livingstone was a mainstay of the Grimsby Town side that won the Football League Trophy in 2003.

He later played for Carlisle United before retiring in 2004. Livingstone has since worked as a football coach.

Aidan Davison is a goalkeeper who has played for a number of clubs in England. Davison played for Wrexham during the 2018/19 season. Davison has also been a goalkeeping coach for Wrexham.

Tony Arrowsmith was a left back who played for Sheffield United and Newcastle United in the Football League. He was born in 1887 in Staveley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England and died in 1950.

Tony Arrowsmith played for Sheffield United and Newcastle United in the Football League. He was a left back who was known for his ball control and passing ability. He was inducted into the Sheffield United Hall of Fame in 2006.

Michael Reddy is a striker who has played for teams in Ireland and in England. Reddy started his career at Kilkenny City, where he scored over 100 goals in two spells with the club.

Jock Archibald is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He enjoyed a long and successful career with a number of teams, including Rangers and Liverpool.

Archibald was born in Strathaven, Scotland in 1895. He started his career with local team Strathaven Thistle, before moving to Rangers in 1921. He made his Rangers debut the same year, and went on to make over 350 appearances for the club.

Archibald joined Liverpool in 1939, and made over 100 appearances for the club. He was a key member of Liverpool's success in the early part of the 1940s, and helped the team to win the league title in 1947 and the FA Cup in 1948. Archibald retired from professional football in 1957.

He went on to manage several teams, including Queen of the South and Hibernian. He died in 1967 at the age of 71. 

Archibald is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, and is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Rangers' history. He is also a member of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

Archibald was a very good goalkeeper, and was able to keep many clean sheets. He was also a very quick goalkeeper, and was able to react quickly to any danger.

He is currently starring in the crime drama City of Lies. George Affleck was born on October 16th, 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts. He started his career playing for Leeds City in the English Football League. He moved to Grimsby Town in 1919 and stayed there for 197 appearances and 0 goals.

Affleck spent most of his career playing as a defender. He retired from professional football in 1924. After retiring from football, Affleck moved to London and started a successful acting career. He has appeared in a number of films and television shows, including "The Town" and "Prison Break".

Willie Appleyard was born on 13 August 1878 in Caistor, England. He played for Newcastle United from 1898 to 1928 and led the team to championship titles in 1919 and 1927.

He also won the FA Cup in 1924 and the League Cup in 1925. Appleyard was a member of the England national team and played at the 1900 and 1904 World Cups. He retired from playing in 1928 and became manager of Newcastle United.

He died on 14 January 1958 at the age of 79 after a long illness. The Bill Appleyard Medal is awarded annually to the best player in the Newcastle United F.A. Cup. Willie Appleyard is recognised as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Appleyard was born in 1901 and started his career at Grimsby Town. He moved to Newcastle United in 1902 and spent the next 126 years with the club. Appleyard was an integral part of the Newcastle side that won the First Division title in 1908.

Appleyard left Newcastle in 1909 and joined Oldham Athletic. He spent a couple of seasons at Oldham before returning to Newcastle in 1911. 

Appleyard was part of the Newcastle team that won the FA Cup in 1924. He retired from playing in 1928. Appleyard was appointed assistant manager at Newcastle in 1930 and held the post until 1938.

He later became manager of Newcastle United, but was fired after just six months in charge.

46. Ernest Blake

Ernest Blake was a prolific winger who played for both Arsenal and Liverpool. Blake was a key part of the Arsenal team that won the Double in 1937. He also won a FA Cup with Liverpool in 1951.

Blake was a member of the England national team and received a bronze medal at the 1936 Olympic Games. Blake retired from playing in 1950. He later served as manager of Fulham and Brighton. Blake was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

He was also awarded an OBE in 1965. Blake died in 1965 at the age of 69. Blake was born on November 2, 1884 in the town of Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England. He began his career with local club Grimsby Rovers in 1914, and went on to make over 350 appearances for the club over the next decade.

He also played for Haycroft Rovers, and represented the England national team on a number of occasions. Blake retired from playing in 1932, and went on to become the club's manager. 

He remained in charge until 1938. Blake died on May 6, 1964 at the age of 78. He is remembered as one of the most accomplished and respected players in Grimsby Rovers' history.

Blake's achievements at Grimsby Rovers have been honoured with a number of accolades, including induction into the club's Hall of Fame in 1988. His legacy at Grimsby Rovers is sure to continue into the future, as the club celebrates its centenary year in 2014.

John William Blanchard was born on February 9, 1889 in Grimsby, England. He played full-back for several clubs in England during the early 1900s, before moving to the United States in 1923.

He played for several American clubs, before retiring in 1931. He returned to England in 1933, and continued to play for several clubs until his retirement in 1963. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972.

He died in 1963, aged 73–74. William Blanchard was born on August 12th, 1881 in Grimsby, England. He started his senior career with Grimsby Town in 1907, and played for them until 1910. He then signed for Grimsby Rangers, and played for them until 1913.

He then signed for Fulham, and played for them until 1915. After leaving Fulham, he retired from football. He died on May 24th, 1957 in London, England. He was inducted into the Grimsby Town Hall of Fame in 1978. He was also inducted into the British Football Hall of Fame in 2003.

Ciarán Toner began his career with Tottenham Hotspur in 2000. In 2002, he joined Harrogate Town, where he played for two seasons. Toner then signed with League of Ireland side, Shelbourne, in 2004.

He stayed with Shelbourne for two seasons, before joining Cork City in 2006. Toner spent two seasons with Cork City, before joining Dundalk in 2008. He stayed with Dundalk for two seasons, before joining Derry City in 2010.

Toner has also had a successful career in the Irish League, playing for Shelbourne, Longford Town, Derry City and Limerick. Ciarán Toner is currently a youth coach with Peterborough United.
