Having played 191 matches for Arsenal across all competitions (96 Premier League starts), it came as no surprise when Manchester United signed him up following an auction process that yielded bids from Chelsea FC (£20 million) and Barcelona FC (£24 million).

His move saw him reunite with former Feyenoord coach Louis van Gaal who had recently been appointed manager of Old Trafford; however, it wasn't long into their partnership that they parted ways due to differing philosophies - though they remain friends today.

Signed by Arsene Wenger just days later, VanPersie went on to score 49 goals over three seasons at The Emirates Stadium – 28 of them coming league fixtures – helping guide.

Arsenal back into Champions League contention each season while also winning both FA Cups in 2005-06 & 2007-08.

Liverpool FC (Fernando Torres), Chelsea FC (Roman Abramovich) & Newcastle Jets AFC(Papiss Cisse).

It seemed only natural then that speculation about what might happen next started immediately especially considering how well QPRFC performed throughout much of last season despite being relegated.
