Founded as a merger between two local football clubs, Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 07, the club has enjoyed a long history of success in the Bundesliga.

Kohler began his career in the Bundesliga with 1. FC Köln, and later spent time at Bayern Munich before joining Juventus. He made 191 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before retiring in 2002.

Kohler won two German titles during his time at Bayern Munich and Juve, as well as a UEFA Cup with Dortmund. He is currently manager of Viktoria Köln's U19 team. 

Kohler has also represented Germany on several occasions, most notably at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 where he played 10 times each.

A strong defender who was known for his aerial ability, Jürgen Kohler is one of German football's all-time greats Kohler played football for Germany at all levels, from U-18 to the senior team. 

He spent time as manager of various youth teams before taking over as boss of MSV Duisburg in 2005. Kohler then had a successful two years with VfR Aalen before being appointed head coach of SC Hauenstein in 2016.

In his first season with Hauenstein, they finished second in the Regionaliga West and qualified for the German Cup where they were knocked out by FC Augsburg in the semi-finals. 

Kohler left Hauenstein after just one year to take charge of Viktoria Köln - who are currently bottom of Bundesliga 2 - on a caretaker basis this season.

Podolski is a Polish international footballer who plays for German club, Górnik Zabrze. Podolski began his career at 1. FC Köln before moving to Bundesliga side1.

FC Köln II in 2003. In 2006, he joined Premier League side Arsenal where he scored 49 goals in 140 appearances over six years and helped the Gunners win two FA Cups and the Europa League in that time.

He then signed for Italian Serie A champions Juventus on a free transfer in 2015 but left after one season due to personal reasons.

Podolski re-joined Arsenal on a three-year deal worth £15million prior to their 2017–18 campaign; however, injury restricted him to only 16 appearances which led to his departure from the Emirates Stadium at the end of June 2019.

On 6 July 2019, it was announced that Podolski had rejoined former team Górnik Zabrze, signing an initial three-year contract with them.

Davie Selke is a forward for 1. FC Köln and was born in Germany. He started his career with Stuttgarter Kickers before moving to VfB Stuttgart and then Werder Bremen.

Harald Schumacher is a 68-year-old German goalkeeper who is currently the vice president of 1. FC Köln. He started his career at 1. FC Köln in the late 1960s and played there until the late 1980s.

He then had a brief spell at Schalke 04 before joining Bayern Munich in 1991. He spent two seasons with the club before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 1995. He retired from professional football in 1996.

Schumacher is well-known for his performances in the Bundesliga, where he helped 1. FC Köln to two championship titles and two DFB-Pokals. 

He also won the European Cup with Bayern Munich in 1992. Schumacher is a regular attendee of international tournaments, having played in three World Cups and four European Championships.

He was also part of the German squad that won the 1994 World Cup. Schumacher was born in Düren, West Germany, in 1954. He began his football career at Schwarz-Weiß Düren before joining 1. FC Köln in 1972. 

He went on to make 422 appearances for the club over a 13-year period, winning two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokals. Schumacher announced his retirement from professional football in 1996.

Since then, he has been involved in a number of business ventures, including being a co-owner of 1. FC Köln. He is also a regular participant in international tournaments, having played in three World Cups and four European Championships. 

Schumacher was named West German Footballer of the Year in 1984 and 1992. He was also named the UEFA goalkeeper of the year in 1992. Schumacher was inducted into the Bundesliga Hall of Fame in 2006.

He also received the German Sports Award for Sportsperson of the Year in 2007. Schumacher is married and has two children. He currently resides in Cologne, Germany. 

Schumacher is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time, and his performances at club level have made him a legend in Germany. He will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in the Bundesliga.

Pierre Littbarski is a former German footballer who played as an attacking midfielder and winger. He spent most of his career with 1. FC Köln, winning the Bundesliga title in 1993.

Pierre Littbarski represented West Germany at youth level, before playing for FC Schöneberg and Hertha 03 Zehlendorf in the Bundesliga. Köln signed Littbarski in 1978, and he went on to score 172 goals in total for the club.

Dieter Müller is one of the most famous and successful strikers in German football history. He played for 1. FC Köln, VfB Stuttgart, and Bordeaux over a period of 20 years and is the all-time top scorer for Köln.

Müller began his career at SG Götzenhain, before moving to 1. FC Köln in 1972. He helped Köln to two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokals, before moving to VfB Stuttgart in 1981. He remained at VfB until 1985, when he joined Bordeaux.

In 1985, Müller moved to the United States to play for the New York Cosmos. He returned to Europe the following year, joining Grasshoppers. He retired from playing in 1991. Müller was inducted into the German Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

Dieter Müller was born on 1 April 1954 in Offenbach, West Germany. He is 68 years old and 1.82 metres tall. Dieter Müller is married and has three children.

Klaus Allofs was born on 5 December 1956 in Düsseldorf, West Germany. Allofs started his career with TuS Gerresheim before joining 1. FC Köln in 1981. Allofs spent the majority of his career with 1.

FC Köln, playing 177 matches and scoring 88 goals. Allofs joined Marseille in 1990, before returning to 1. FC Köln the following year. Allofs retired from football in 2000. He has since worked as a football coach.

Allofs was a member of the West Germany national team, playing 53 matches and scoring 20 goals. Allofs was named German Footballer of the Year in 1987 and 1989. Allofs was inducted into the Düsseldorf Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Allofs was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Düsseldorf in 2009. Allofs was the manager of Werder Bremen from 1998-1999. 

He then served as the sporting director of VfL Wolfsburg from 2012-2016. Allofs has also had a lengthy career in international football, managing West Germany from 1978-1988.

Under Allofs, Werder Bremen reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2002. His most recent success came with Wolfsburg, who won the Bundesliga in 2013 and 2014. Allofs is currently the manager of Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. 

In 2018, Allofs was honored with the prestigious FIFA Order of Merit. Allofs is a devout Catholic and has been critical of some of the recent changes to the church. Allofs was born in Düsseldorf on October 17, 1961.

Bernd Schuster is a retired German footballer who played as a midfielder. He began his career at SV Hammerschmiede Augsburg, before joining FC Augsburg in 1978.

He signed for Barcelona in 1980 and played for them until 1988. He then moved to Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.

He finished his career with Atlético Madrid. Schuster made 59 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen. He retired in 1997. He was appointed as the coach of Málaga in 2013, but was sacked in November of that year.

Schuster is the father of footballers Lukas and Leon. Schuster played for West Germany's youth teams between 1977 and 1979, helping the country win the U18 World Cup in 1978. He made his senior debut in 1980, and went on to play 21 times for the country.

After spells at Fortuna Cologne and 1. FC Köln, he took over as manager of Xerez in 1998. He led the team to promotion to La Liga in his first season, but was sacked after a poor start to the following season. 

He then had a brief spell at Shakhtar Donetsk before returning to Germany to take charge of Levante.

He then moved to Spain to take charge of Getafe, before returning to Germany to take charge of Real Madrid. He then left Madrid to take over as manager of Beşiktaş, where he stayed for two seasons. 

He was then appointed manager of Dalian Yifang, where he is currently in charge. Schuster has also been a regular pundit for German TV stations since leaving management.

Schnellinger was a world-class defender who spent a total of 19 seasons playing in the Bundesliga for 1. FC Köln, Roma and Mantova. Schnellinger made his Bundesliga debut for 1.

FC Köln in 1958 and went on to make 84 appearances for the club. Schnellinger was a key member of the German side that won the silver medal at the 1964 European championships. Schnellinger joined Roma in 1964 and made 29 appearances for the club before retiring in 1965.

Schnellinger is widely regarded as one of the finest defenders to have played in the Bundesliga and he was named as the Bundesliga's defender of the year in 1964 and 1965. Schnellinger later went on to have a successful coaching career, coaching 1. FC Köln and FC Schalke 04.

Karl-Heinz Schnellinger died on 7 February 2018 at the age of 83.

Thomas Häßler began his football career at BFC Meteor 06 before joining 1. FC Köln in 1984. He spent 11 seasons with the Nordwest German side, making 149 appearances and scoring 17 goals.

He started his professional career with TSV Lengers in 1968, before joining VfB Heringen in 1975. He made 114 appearances for VfB, scoring 12 goals. 

Bein retired from professional football in 1998, having played for SV Werder Bremen and Rot-Weiß Erfurt during his final two seasons. He has since worked as a football coach, most notably at his former club VfB Heringen.

Thomas Allofs started his professional career at TuS Gerresheim in 1978. He spent most of his career with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won the German Cup in 1997 and the Bundesliga in 1999.

He also featured for Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona, before ending his career with Arminia Bielefeld in 2004. Allofs was a prolific striker, scoring more than 250 goals in his career. He was a member of the German national team, making his debut in 1984.

He was a part of the squad that competed at the 1990 World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2000. Allofs was honoured with the German Footballer of the Year award in 1996, 1997 and 1999. 

He is currently the president of the DFB (German Football Association). Thomas Allofs is a member of the DFB Hall of Fame.

Harald Konopka was born in Düren, West Germany in 1952. Konopka started his youth career at Teutonia Echtz. Konopka made his professional debut in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1974.

Konopka went on to make over 350 appearances in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga. Konopka made his international debut for West Germany in 1973. Konopka played his last international game in 1990. Konopka retired from professional football in 1992.

Konopka has since been involved in coaching and management. Harald Konopka was awarded the UEFA Jubilee Award in 1999. 

Harald Konopka played for 1. FC Köln from 1971 to 1983, during which time he made 335 league appearances and scored 21 goals. He also played for Borussia Dortmund from 1983 to 1984, making 17 appearances and scoring zero goals.
