The Chicago Bears’ 2005 season was one of dramatic improvement and success. After a disappointing 5-11 record in 2004, the team managed to turn things around and finish the regular season with an 11-5 record, earning them their first playoff berth since 2001 and their first NFC North title since that year.

Led by the stellar play of quarterback Rex Grossman and a well-rounded defense, the Bears sought to make a deep playoff run and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Chicago for the first time since 1985.

With an impressive second seed in the NFC playoffs, the team entered the post-season with high expectations and the hopes of their long-suffering fans on their shoulders.

Muhammad was a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers from 1996 to 2004. He played for the Chicago Bears from 2005 to 2007 and then again from 2008-2009.

Muhammad is considered one of the best receivers in NFL history, and he holds many records including most receptions in a career (1,549), most receiving yards (22,935), and most touchdowns (135).

Muhammad is one of the most decorated receivers in NFL history. He was a three-time first-team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler. Muhammad led the league in receiving yards in 2004 and was also named the NFL's Receiving touchdowns leader that same year.

After retiring from football, Muhammad embarked on a successful career as an analyst for ESPN television broadcasts.

Lance Briggs is a linebacker for the Chicago Bears. He was drafted in 2003 and has been with the team ever since. Lance Briggs has won several awards, including two Super Bowl rings with the Chicago Bears.

He was named to the NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s and 2010s respectively. Lance Briggs is married and has 2 children. Lance Briggs was a dominant defensive lineman during his time in the NFL, amassing over 1,000 tackles and 15 sacks.

He played seven seasons with the Bears before joining the Detroit Lions in 2011. Briggs has been named to two All-Pro teams and made 100 appearances for Chicago during his career.

3. Patrick Mannelly

Mannelly was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1998 and played for them until 2013. Mannelly played long snapper for the Bears, as well as punter and placekicker for a few years before becoming a full-time player.

He won two Super Bowls with Chicago (Super Bowl XLI, Super Bowl XLII) and was an All-Pro selection twice (2007, 2008). 

After leaving Chicago, Mannelly spent time with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks before retiring in 2015 at age 38.

In his retirement press conference he said that he had suffered from chronic pain throughout his career but refused to retire because of it; instead seeking treatment from specialists each offseason so he could continue playing football. 

Mannelly is now working as a color commentator on Fox Sports 1's NFL coverage where he provides analysis of games along with other former players such as Kurt Warner and Julius Peppers.

Patrick Mannelly is a former American football fullback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for fifteen seasons. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft and played his entire career with them, retiring after Super Bowl XLI. 

Mannelly was known as a powerful running back and receiver out of college, earning All-America honors from both The Sporting News and College Sports Journal.

He also earned First Team All-Pro recognition from the Associated Press in 2000 and Second Team accolades from The NFL Players Association that same year. 

After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, Mannelly made an immediate impact with Chicago during their run to Super Bowl XXXVIII, catching eight passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns en route to MVP honors. 

Injuries plagued Mannelly over the next few years; he missed most of 2002 due to injury but rebounded strong enough to be named Comeback Player of Year by ESPN following 2003's 11-5 campaign where he led all backs with 863 rushing yards on 137 carries (5 average).

ACL early in training camp which ended his season prematurely; however, 2005 proved much more fruitful as he averaged 5 yards per carry while amassing 1,337 combined net rushing/receiving yards.

Sixth-best overall in NFL history at that point – including nine receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown against.  Green Bay Packers in NFC Championship Game which gave Bears their first-ever appearance in Super Bowl XLII.

4. Charles Tillman

Charles Tillman started his NFL career with the Chicago Bears in 2003. Tillman was a two-time Pro Bowler and one of the best cornerbacks in the league for most of his time in Chicago.

In 2015, he signed with the Carolina Panthers and has continued to be a highly-effective player for them ever since. Charles Tillman is a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and an all-around superb player.

He has amassed over 800 tackles in his career, forcing 41 fumbles, recovering 9, and intercepting 38 balls. Charles Tillman is also one of the Bears' most popular players, with legions of fans rooting for him every game.

Kreutz was an All-Pro center for the Chicago Bears from 1998 to 2010. Kreutz also played for the New Orleans Saints in 2011. Kreutz is a two-time Pro Bowler and was selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 2000s.

Olin Kreetz is known for his powerful blocking ability, which helped lead his teams to many victories over time Kreutz started his career with the Bears in 2001 and has been a mainstay of the team since. 

He was voted to both the Pro Bowl and NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and is considered one of the best centers in the league.

Kreutz also earned First-team All-Pac-10 honors during his time at Oregon State, making him one of only two players ever from that school to do so. 

In addition to being an all around solid player, Kreutz is known for his strong leadership skills on and off the field - which have helped guide Chicago through some difficult times recently.

Adewale Ogunleye is a defensive end who played for the Miami Dolphins (2000-2003) and Chicago Bears (2004-2009). Ogunleye was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2004 NFL Draft but did not sign with them.

He later signed with the Miami Dolphins, where he spent the final three seasons of his career. Ogunleye has made an impact on both professional football and college football levels.

He was a first-team All-American at Indiana University in 1997 and 1998 before being drafted into the NFL by Chicago Bears in 2000.

After spending time with both teams, Ogunleye retired from playing in 2009 to focus on coaching full-time at his alma mater of Indiana University Bloomington High School as their Defensive Line Coach starting the 2010 season until January 2019 when he accepted a full professorship at Louisiana State University.

Adewale Ogunleye played football at Indiana University and was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2003.

He has three All-Pro selections, 67 sacks, 14 fumble recoveries, and one interception in his career. Ogunleye is a member of the Indianapolis Colts hall of fame and was named first-team All-Pro in 2003.

Ruben Brown was a standout player at Lynchburg High School in Virginia, where he helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back state championships. After going undrafted in 1995, Brown signed with the Buffalo Bills and made an immediate impact as a backup guard.

He went on to play for the Chicago Bears (2004–2007) before retiring from football. Brown is now focused on his second career – acting – and has appeared in several films and TV shows since retiring from football. 

Ruben Brown is one of only two players ever to have won both the Super Bowl and NFL Championship MVP awards (the other being Joe Montana).

Brown was a four-time Second Team All-Pro in the NFL, and nine time Pro Bowler. Brown played for the Bills from 1996 until 2003, and was part of their 50th anniversary team in 2006. He is second all-time on Buffalo’s list for fumble recoveries with two, behind only Thurman Thomas. 

In 1997 he won First Team All Big East honors as a defensive lineman while at Pittsburgh, where he also attended school before entering the pros After retiring from football following the 2003 season, Brown has since worked as an analyst on ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage.

Kyle Orton is a former quarterback who played for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos in the NFL. Kyle Orton was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

He spent three seasons with them before being traded to the Denver Broncos in 2009. In 2011, Kyle Orton signed with the Kansas City Chiefs but only played one season there before retiring from football at age 29 due to an injury sustained during preseason play.

Kyle Orton is a veteran quarterback who has been in the NFL for nine seasons. Kyle Orton has had some good and bad moments during his career, but he remains a reliable starter on most teams. 

Kyle Orton is best known for his passing ability, as he averages over 18,000 yards per season through the air. In recent years,Kyle Orton's play has slowed down somewhat - partly due to injury - but he should still be able to contribute significantly in the future.

Benson was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2005 but didn't play a down for them before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Benson had an impressive career with the Bengals, rushing for 10,202 yards and scoring 74 touchdowns.

Benson announced his retirement from professional football after playing in just one game this season with the Detroit Lions. 

Benson was found dead in his Austin home on August 17th 2019 at 36 years old due to complications from heart disease sustained over many years of playing football professionally.

Cedric Benson was a highly successful running back in college and the NFL. He set many NCAA records while playing at Louisiana State University and won several awards, including the Doak Walker Award in 2004. 

Benson also had success as a pro, rushing for over 6,000 yards and 32 touchdowns in his career. 

His biggest moment came during the 2010 season when he rushed for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 14 carries against the New Orleans Saints in an important game late in the season.

Benson retired from professional football after the 2013 season but continues to work as an analyst for ESPN's College GameDay coverage of games involving LSU teams (his alma mater).

He has since retired from football, and is now a firefighter in Florida. Brown is a strong defensive end who can rush the passer. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was a member of the Bears' 2000 Super Bowl team. Brown is a dedicated firefighter who has been with the department for over 10 years.

Brown is a father of two young children. Brown is a popular figure in the community, and he is involved in many charitable activities. He was a two-time first-team All-American and three-time first-team All-SEC player at the University of Florida. 

He was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and was drafted in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

He played in 12 seasons in the NFL with the Ravens, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and was the Bengals' all-time leading tackler with 543 tackles. 

He announced his retirement from the NFL in January 2019. Brown was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.

Jeff Blake was drafted in the sixth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He would spend three seasons with the Jets before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals in 1994.

Blake would spend six seasons with the Bengals, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 1999. He would later play for the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals before retiring in 2006.

Blake was a three-time Pro Bowler and was inducted into the Cincinnati Bengals Hall of Fame in 2006. He is also a member of the New York Jets and Saints Hall of Fame. Blake is currently an analyst for the NFL Network.

Blake signed with the Chicago Bears in 2010 and played for them for two seasons. Blake was released by the Bears in 2012. Blake signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and played for them for three seasons. Blake retired from the NFL after the Ravens' Super Bowl victory in 2017.

Jamaal Green is a defensive end who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 NFL Draft. Green has played for the Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Oakland Raiders.

Green has appeared in over 150 games in the NFL and has recorded over 100 tackles. Green is a two-time Pro Bowler and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team in 2002. Green is a native of Camden, New Jersey and is married with two children.

Green is a passionate advocate for the prevention of child abuse. Green is also a spokesperson for the NFL Players Association. Green is a member of the NFL Alumni Association. Green is a member of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.

Jamaal Green was a productive linebacker for the Eagles from 2003-2004. In 2005, he went to the Bears and played well, recording 97 tackles and one sack. 

However, after a disappointing 2007 season with the Redskins, he was released. Green then signed with the Raiders and played there for two seasons before retiring in 2011.

Overall, Green racked up 2,359 tackles, 97 sacks, and 12 interceptions in his NFL career. He is a two-time champion and had his best seasons with the Eagles. He is a smart player who makes good decisions on the field. He was an All-Pro in 2005 and 2006. He is now an assistant coach with the Raiders.

Harris was drafted 14th overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played for the Bears for six seasons before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2011.

Harris is best known for his time with the Chicago Bears, where he won a Super Bowl championship in 2008. He also played in the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009. Harris has also played for the Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers.

Jeremy Cain was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2004 NFL Draft but did not sign with the team. He then played for the Bears' rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in 2005.

In 2006, Cain signed with the Minnesota Vikings and played there until 2009. He then played for the Oakland Raiders from 2009 to 2011 and then signed with the Bears in 2012. Cain has played in 98 NFL games and has registered 114 tackles, five sacks, and one interception.

He has also been a long snapper for the Bears since 2012. Cain is a two-time Pro Bowler and has been a part of two Super Bowl teams, in 2006 and 2012. He was also an All-Pro in 2006.

Daven Holly was drafted in the 7th round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played for the 49ers for 3 seasons before being traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2007.

Final Words

The 2005 Chicago Bears season was one of dramatic improvement and success. After a disappointing 2004 campaign, the team rallied around new head coach Lovie Smith and made significant upgrades to their roster.
